Re: prescrption glasses
Why can't the display automatically de-focus the image exactly the right amount through a virtual lens?
Now THAT would be a good patent to own.

Given that many physicists assumed Higgs existed, or at least built theories around its theoretical existence, and none of them have explained why the universe happened, finding Higgs does exist doesn't mean squat in the [non existent but perpetual] argument between science and religion.
I wonder if it can be scientifically proven that science can't explain WHY things are how they are. It would be a lovely circular field of study :)
Quantum theory we understood when building them, or quantum theory we discovered afterwards? Considering you can build a mechanic computer, or one using very simple school-level electronics, I think you're the one who is wrong. Electrical components might behave in a certain way due to quantum effects but that doesn't mean they were created/invented based on an understanding of those effects... often we invent something by discovering a certain behaviour without knowing why.
I am a bit surprised that Pi can't do an IDE. It may be far below modern standards (I assumed it would be on par with a PIII 700 rather than a PII 300 but either way), but it was not so very long ago we were using 300MHz PII with 256Mb RAM as desktop PCs - I worked with Visual C++ 6, Borland JBuilder and MS Office on such PCs as did everyone else, probably only a decade ago. And those PCs had nothing in the way of GPU acceleration at all.
And with Linux being so much faster than Windows (semi serious Linux barb) that should make it usable as a low-power PC. If not why not?
I love how everyone is being downvoted simply for saying "I like it". Not saying "you should like it", just "I like it". It just emphasises the childish, immature nature of your typical Linux evangelist who claims to support freedom and choice but is personally affronted if you exercise that freedom to disagree with them.
Maybe Linux users are just so angry all the time because they have to use Linux.
I'd rather end up in a council flat eating dog food at 70 that sucking up to some prick higher up the so called "food chain"
Then you probably will get your wish. There is the real world, and there is the nice little world in your head where people are promoted purely on merit, everyone confesses their own mistakes and never take credit for someone else.
The author of this article does not seem to understand that people who are good engineers are usually so because they enjoy doing things right and take a viewpoint that is based around what is optimum for the system, not just their little nugget of it. We have become engineers because we find greater satisfaction in actually being good people who move things forward, than we do playing internal politics and bickering over our share of an increasingly small pie.
It's your choice - you can listen to the guy with 25 years' experience. Or you can practice reciting that speech for the job interviews you're going to be hoping for soon.
To an average consumer who watches normal TV (HD+SD) and streaming services like Netflix rather than lots of blu-ray movies, would there be an obvious difference between watching a £500, a £1000 and a £2000 TV? Are we talking very subtle videophile-level differences, or something you'd walk into the room and go "wow that's amazing"?
