Who's who: 12th Doctor has been chosen, will meet you on Sunday night

Re: Seems a bit too often

Not really, most of the doctors have lasted around 4 years just like Matt Smith and David Tennant. It was just Tom Baker was in the role for more like 8 years so those of us of a certain age imagine this is typical rather than an oddity.

Flood-hit Thai disk fabs to pour out 140m drives

icetroggy

Really?

I'm obviously looking in the wrong places for disks - a 1TB disk now seems to be around £80, and I'm sure they were more like £40 before the flood, so the current premium is in the region of 100%.

EU asks why credit cards are so expensive

icetroggy

Isn't the problem that the card charges are paid for by the retailer, so the customer has no motivation to choose a card with low charges? In fact there is a motivation to choose one with high charges and cashback, which then pushes prices up for everyone else (unless they retailers start refusing certain cards).

>> Pointless if *I* have paid *my* ISP to prioritise all *my* packets, which is what the government are talking about here.

No - that is exactly not what the government is talking about. Nobody is worried that you can buy a more expensive broadband package and get higher bandwidth.

This is about *Microsoft* (or some other large company) paying your ISP to prioritise their traffic above other companies, so that I guess someone with the cheap broadband package would get higher data rate for windows updates than you with your expensive package would get with Ubuntu updates or whatever.

Of course, the government's argument is that you could always change ISP in this case.

You won't be able to get the Bruce Dickinson Rock Show on 6music either after next week. The nice people at the BBC axed it.
