Re: Hmmm
I'm never had an issue plugging one in.. takes 1 second even in the dark.
Re: err
Except the universal standard for cellphone connections is NOW the micro-usb. It was approved what 5 or 6 years ago? Fail on Apple for NOT following the standard.
Re: Nokia need to put out Android phones
Tripled market share... here's an example of tripling market share.. I sold 1 unit.. then a year later I sold 3 (but in order to do it I dumped the price so it's a money looser).. that's tripling market share. doesn't mean much in reality.. And that's pretty much what Nokia did.
"The problem with the settlement is that it didn't cure anything because there was nothing to stop FB from doing this again, and there wasn't anything which could show how the lawyers came to the round number of 10 million in compensation."
Which is the reason the Judge tossed it.
Re: FAIL indeed: Holmes passed his background check
Why should the NRA be held responsible? The person responsible was the one who pulled the trigger and ONLY that person!
"The actual answer IMO is to actually implement 2nd amendment in its stated intent and form a "well regulated militia", i.e. some kind of reservist force with defence obligations and training."
No it's not. Only Constitutional revisionist believe that. (ie Anti-Gun nuts)
Re: Bloody wonderful, dont idiots ever think first?
Exactly as your title suggest...
The VAST majority of gun violence in America is committed by criminals on other criminals. We know how much criminals love to obey laws now don't we!
Also this is after they go to prison and learn to become master criminals for stuff like drug related crimes.. Stop throwing people in jail from drug related crimes.. you get rid of drug related violence and you get rid of the vast majority of violent crime.
Everywhere in America when legalized gun ownership is allowed violent crime drops. Where gun ownership is curtailed (like Chicago for example) crime goes up.. Chicago just had gun legalized ownership heavily curtailed with some of the most restrictive laws in the country and they are going through a MAJOR increase in violent gun related crimes.
Re: Well Duh!
Because if it has a keyboard and a mouse it can still be more efficient to use those features. Moving your hand away from such is a serious pain.. especially if you keep your screen pushed away like I do... That's why I always use a full sized keyboard and mouse when I know I'm going to be sitting for a while in the same location.
Also some people hate having to wipe greasy fingerprints off of something so fragile as a laptop screen.
Re: Making vs Thinking
Which is a good reason these free trade agreements need to start ending.
This was the result of irrigation.. not heat.
Re: This is an important one
Chris.. what if you (as Apple has done) refuse to pay the license fee? Then a ban can and should be enforced.
Chris
Apple licenses its patents at a similar rate (didn't say the same.. similar)
Re: Corporate suicide?
I'm guessing somewhere about 3~6 months after initial sales figures come in.
Re: Deja vu from recent Reg headlines
No just articles justifying how much Steven Jobs stood in the way of innovation at his own company because it was his way or the highway.
Stupid people now a days
Less than a billion members at less than 2 dollars revenue per user a quarter. The company is worth 5 to 10 billion max.
Not to mention the revenue for the company per user is actually dropping as well!
Re: But, since the system IS in place...
No you contact the valid patent holder and obtain a license to use the technology. Failing that you can be sued.
Re: This is a symptom of ...
I worked for them for a while as well Jake.. their password policy was crazy.. nothing over 8 characters, a mix of letters and number only, no special characters, case sensitive turned off.. For some reason they thought this was MORE secure.
Re: I must be missing something
Why did Oracle want that hardware business?
Did they really want Sun for the hardware business or all the software and the potential to sue over it.. Honestly with the speed that Oracle used the legal option after acquiring Sun.. I would think it's the software and not the hardware.
Re: For completeness...
"Some humor was missed, I believe..."
Then maybe the author of the comment should of used the sarcasm tag or something. Cause it looks to me like a fanboi stating his distaste of anything Google.
Re: Oh the humanity!
Well according to El-Reg you would be buying over a half million drinks as that is the number reported to have been infected by this drive-by infection.
I was following this as well
If pre-loaded apps weren't allowed then the Microserf also broke the rules since that person also had 2 preloaded weather apps!
Re: It's true!
"Did the muffin have rounded corners?"
There's an App for that.
@Whitter
Except that once the brain sends the signal you cannot override it.... You've already sent the signal that said pull the trigger. The only thing that would stop it at that point is to break the connection between brain and trigger finger.
Re: Re: Why... do I need an SD card slot
Because a 16gig card is 16.99 bucks on NewEgg.com right now. So you're getting ripped off by paying £90 extra.
@bmacsys
You know I'm not in the market for a tablet at this time.. however when I go to the bigbox stores to see what's out there.. You can't find the Android Tablets.. they are either placed in areas where visibility is low or they don't carry them. This is slowly turning around... but if the consumer can't find the device then they certainly can't purchase one!
@Tom 38
That would be true however the Chinese government artificially manipulates its currency to stay the bargain it actually is.
@Khaptain
"Can someone remind me why the law is only relevant to a certain percentage of the population."
That percentage is 100% of the population!
@tapanit
Not if that same testimony would incriminate them in a crime. They can plead the 5th to protect themselves. That can result in the witnesses entire testimony being thrown out of course.
Re: @Wize
"The real question however is where could Apple - and HP, Dell, Microsoft, etc - go as alternatives for their manufacturing, when Foxconn clearly has such as stronghold position, it's monopoly being - as it appears - supported by the Chinese government?"
How about in countries where workers have rights? China is chosen because they have a HUGE supply of cheap manual labor. Other countries can keep labor cost down by using labor and robotics. If other companies left China stating that the main reason they do so is because of their lack of worker's rights protections then China may actually be forced to crack down on illegal employment practices. However until the Chinese people rise up and force the government to give them the rights they should get the abuses will continue.
Any one notice the part
Motorola offered to license the tech to Apple, Apple refused to license it!
Then Apple sued.
Sorry Apple you refused to license the tech which was offered to you under FRAND.
Do we really need a warning for this?
Seriously?
seriously.. he addresses exactly that. on his fb page.. both him and his daughter are quite insulted by that attitude!
"Nuff said. Rational folks won't own a gun. Hell, the only gun IT guys own are Nerfs, or if you're richer, stun guns.
And his daughter is right to demand being paid for doing household chores.
I hope social services deal with this psycho. Preferably by taking his daughter away."
Really and free room and board aren't enough? She was doing less than 30 minutes of chores each day and for that she got free room and board, high speed internet, a cell phone, a nice laptop and whatever else that was provided to her. The police and social services have already looked into the video and they didn't have a problem with it.. and the daughter doesn't either. Read the guy's FB page!
"...that some folks do not understand that this girl has serious psychological issues that will eventually required professional help. Many young people live in a drug crazed world of fantasy be it legal or illicit drugs. If she's not on drugs she has even more severe issues."
Are you for real? She had a temper tantrum that she took public that's all it was. Are you a professional who can diagnose this without even seeing his daughter? Even his daughter agrees she screwed up. Teens do that sometimes.. She tried to push the boundaries and she got schooled.
He is a man of his word. He promised her something like this would happen the previous time she did something like this and then he followed through. This was not a tantrum.. he was calm and level headed throughout the video and remained so all the way through the end. I also believe because of his actions IF he ever did need to look for a job that if people recalled the video he'd get offers on the spot. He was defending his family's honor and his word after sh had disrespected it in a public forum.
"She's a spoiled little brat without a clue. Maybe she learned something from the video but it's doubtful."
Read his FB page.. She agreed after she read the 96% positive feedback he got. She also offered her cell phone (since she has lost the use of it while she is grounded) up to be shot if will help the charity they support gain financial support... in it appears to have done so... and he is very grateful for as well Also he defends her many times on his page stating it's ok to give him crap but leave her alone.
"I mean if he wants to invoke fear yes he's done it"
It's not fear he tried to invoke.. it's respect! He told her that if she did something like that again he would do something like shoot the laptop. He followed through with his word. She even agrees.. read his FB page.
He wasn't snooping on his daughter's FB page. She didn't black the family pet from viewing it. The family pet has it's own FB page and the father opened that page because SHE didn't sign out of it.
"Guns should never EVER be used for such a thing. A gun is NOT a toy, a gun is something you treat with utmost respect"
Ever go practice shooting? The guy basically shot at the ground. From the range and angle he was shooting it chances of a bullet ricocheting are practically non-existent. Running the laptop over with a car however risk a blown tire and would make a larger mess. Burning it would have release noxious fumes... His wife also wanted him to shoot it for her as well. BTW.. even the local police didn't have an issue... Read the guy's comments on his FB page.
The dad found out by accessing the family dog's facebook page. She blocked the family from viewing the rant but the dog wasn't in the family group. He opened the dog's page and saw the rant. This is not his fault... This is purely his daughter's fault. Read the guy's FB page.. Even she agreed the way she handled this was her fault. If fact she even offered up her cell phone since she is now grounded from using it as well.
He spoke with the local police after the video was posted to Youtube and they didn't have a problem with it.
The dog did it in this case. They had a FB page set up for the dog.. while She had the rest of the family in a family group the dog wasn't in a group. She was looking at the dog profile and forgot to close it. Dad worked on the laptop and saw his daughter's rant on the dog's FB page.
Hollow points are quite easy to obtain. They are banned for warfare... but if you are allowed to purchase a gun and they make hollow points in that caliber then you can purchase them. They may cost you extra but that's about it.
As if destroying a laptop with a hammer isn't just as violent if not more. It also risk more injury from flying debris. Read his comments on his FB page... Even his daughter agreed with her punishment. She wasn't abused and she wasn't scarred for life.
They were hollow points.. some people call them exploding rounds. I believe in the video he called them exploding hollow point rounds.
Read his FB page and you will see that his daughter DID agree with the punishment! She came to the conclusion after reading that he got 96% positive feedback on how he resolved this.
Something like this along with recently announced steerable ammo could make for a resurgence in big gun ships.
Just waiting for a commercial to pop up saying.. you should see what's happening on channel "so and so" and Siro obeys by turning to that station! lol
Good for the economy locally though
Just imagine the thousands of new employees that would have to be hired to handle the influx of "I'm offended by" complaints.
This reeks of SOPA/PIPA here in the US.. making websites responsible for user uploaded content.
I agree with AC.. Block all Indian content. throw up a 404 page stating something like "Your Government wants us to censor searches deemed too offensive for you to view and since anyone can be offended by pretty much anything.. we've shut it all down.. Our suggestion is to take your rage our on your local government official.. That is unless you like being led around like sheep."
I believe that 85% figure is a little high don't you think?
What I want to know is
How come amanfrommars hasn't commented on this yet??? I find this very curious!!!
"2 - Apple does not in any way prevent the installation of other OS on the hardware they produce."
Ummmm yes they do.. which is why you have to jailbreak their devices.
"How could Symantec have gotten hacked? Don't they use AV?"
No they do use AV.. Symantec AV.. that's probably why they got hacked in the first place! LOL
