Latest Intel, AMD chips will only run Windows 10 ... and Linux, BSD, OS X

illiad

Re: Disable the UEFI!! FOR WIN7!!

@toughluck: you need to be clearer!!

er, win10 is designed for using UEFI... If win 10 install/ whatever will not start, it may be corrupt... go back to the company and get them to fix it if you DID want win10..

if you want Win 7, check your chipset - if it is skylake or newer, then it needs drivers even for USB2! (the BIOS will read it, but after that it passes control to the chipset and fails..) put all your drivers on an optical disc, works for me..

illiad

Disable the UEFI!!

its makes things much simpler...

it will usually be hidden under 'legacy boot' and may need 'secure boot' switched off to be able to do that..

illiad

Ah, ASUS drivers etc can be a bit tricky... :O

illiad

TLDR, but they said that before...

"win7/8 wont run on old {fill in something here..} " they said.... they even said UEFI would be the 'only way' ...

many companies soon realized the big *financial* mistake that was, and enabled 'legacy bios' again...

And I am sure there are many pirates cranking out lots of 'legacy stuff' to fill the massive demand coming!!!

'Daddy, what's a Blu-ray disc?'

illiad

indeed, there was a company called 'hifidelity' that produced cheap stuff, for those with no idea of quality sound...

illiad

Re: quality..

The problem is, 80% of people just want 'something to throw in the hifi for music' and and do not care a bleep bleep bleep about 'quality'... this is why CD and DVDs and of course USB etc are still being used... (of course many of these do not even know what USB means... )

the above do not want to spend money on the stuff, they would much rather save it for a decent fun car, or other proper luxuries...

and of course, there are those who think nothing of spending upward of £10,000 on a hifi system, and lovingly care for their vinyl to get the 'real sound'...

Re: Green? Blue? Brown?

you are forgetting the high levels of X-rays given off by the sun...

"If there are lifeforms on Proxima b - even simple microbes - they may find the going rather tough, however.

Red dwarfs are very active. They tend to throw out big flares that would bombard a nearby planet with energetic particles. The X-ray emission is much more intense as well."

BBC detector vans are back to spy on your home Wi-Fi – if you can believe it

illiad

Re: Once upon a time detector vans existed ( macjules)

yes, and all the costas, pubs, clubs, even 'wifi in phone box' things... *hundreds* of them in a seemingly 'quiet' street'... It is difficult enough getting a good signal in an office, finding the stupid 'autofind' on the router has chosen the *busiest* channel!!

illiad

does everyone believe this crap???

nope, WAAAYY too long didn't read the other carp...

First, wifi & internet is NOT as 'easily readable' as the 'noise' produced by the average TV set... and the modern LCD tv even less...

If wifi was that easy to 'see' there would have been 'problems' *years* ago!! LOLOLOL...

Apple to kill off Mac OS X?

illiad

Re: Apple have a mountain to climb

I do think by 'dissimilar devices' he means Mobile / watch / kiosk etc...

The various types of PC (apple/ intel/ risc, etc ) are all *similar * devices...

Note also that Linux is usually JUST the Kernel, that has to be properly selected for the architecture and CPU... Only THEN is the rest (GUI, lots of other drivers ) added and call ubuntu, redhat etc.... :/

illiad

Re: Apple have a mountain to climb

ACTUALLY... it is NOT Linux, but a variant of BSD/next,,,

Google doesn’t care who makes Android phones. Or who it pisses off

illiad

Re: Be careful what you wish for!

yes, this the major problem with an otherwise great OS... android is getting the 'windows disease' in a bad way...

They foist an unwitting buyer with tons of upgrades, that the poor person has no idea about... most likely scaring them to apple!! :O :O

Then the app devs ALSO do the same thing, oblivious to the fact that they are for an OS that is 2 years older than the one on the phone!!!

Re: It's GWX Control Panel or Linux

you dont need to 'install' GWX Control Panel - it is a standalone program, and can be started over the company network or usb directly..

Re: Flash in Windows 8/10 @Andy Non

yes, BUT what if websites NEED FLASH???? the BBC still needs it, but Apple must be paying them something so that it does not need flash??? YES, I once 'spoofed' Firefox the look like Ipad, and HTML5 worked!!! :) but then they changed it, does not work any more...

IE and Graphics head Microsoft's Patch Tuesday critical list

illiad

Re: Not worth the risk ages ago..

I have almost NEVER updated ANY copy of windows I have installed many times...

basic rules..

DO NOT USE IE or outlook!

Use win7 64bit ( you would be surprised how many old PCs can use it!! and there is NO way I know that can find out, except for installing win7 64 bit.... :p Yes, geeks, I know..... read my reasons...

Use either chrome 64bit or PaleMoon 64 bit (this is built on firefox V24, and made for people who just want the INTERNET, and do not want silly features that devs and geeks want!!!)

If all you want is to show of how fast , new, , and flashy it is, you know where to go... :) :)

Re: One way online advertising might change?

the problem is the dumb Mule lovers... (hey, its a SIMILE, girls! look it up!!!!)

the devs say..

"NO! That is how I can afford my rent, the cheques from googladsservices... I dont CARE if the same one is used to stop ads on pron or malware!!!"

BUT the main problem is * the whole fffin world!* - If it was THAT easy, flash would be a bad memory...

illiad

Re: 'Wired' does this.

sooooo many drone on, forgetting that it is MOSTLY googles fault for monetising it for lazy people!!!

Re: Publishers could simply

they must be more observant in Portugal, where that film/programme ends, and goes to ads.. after the ads, the credits come up! :D

illiad

well, admen make lots of money from ads in newspapers, etc... EVEN the FREE ones! how does THAT work??

The admen have already made many enemies, how will they get people to *believe* they will NEVER go back to animated noisy ads???

The biggest problem is many use 'googleadservices' (yes, even theregister!!) to provide their ads - so you are stuck with one bad apple making the *whole* bunch bad... Its not 'theregister' that has done it, but 'dubious site' that got awful ads on its site...

illiad

Re: @FF22 no one pays attention to them??

LOLOL the dream of an ad man...

stop spending lots of cash on fancy actors and animation, do it straight, like virgin..

I've got 200 Mb/s.... get it now!!! :) they many have limited coverage, yes, but they DO NOT have BT's stupidity keeping them down!

illiad

Re: snooping my machine

there is always paranoia.... LOLOL

you forget there are legions of hackers out there, selling 'anti-ad' stuff, laughing at you....

illiad

Re: @FF22 no one pays attention to them??

Ha HA Ha... have you ever noticed a very good ad on tv, BUT cannot remember WHAT is was advertising????

what ever ads are for, how many actually USE them???

If companies pay for static ads, that is the only way they get used - the website can pay for its stuff, but it is up to the reader, whether he does ANYTHING...

The BIG problem is Classic Theme Restorer does NOT do it ALL... I have tried, with 4 or 5 EXTRA ADDONS to try to bring back the old look & feel...

go ahead compare it to FF V28.. Latest FF, Plus tons off addon bloat, etc, etc...

WHY leave V28??

Dear Windows, OS X folks: Update Flash now. Or kill it. Killing it works

illiad

why does an OS allow it???

Simple. companies with LOTS of money and investments, *blindly* going with the 'industry standard' ..

(clueless MGR : "Its adobe, they are a big company working with MS for YEARS, why would I get *anything* that *MS* does not use????" "Linux??? WHY would I get that, ALL our budgets are spent on MS support!" )

webdevs have all their support, paid for by MGR, to do fancy looking pages with ADOBE..

Likewise clueless users... they can just about install windows, dont realise the default is 'administrator'...

Many dont know what things are , quite often it's NOT 'the blue thingy' due to it being modified by their ISP... :(
