But if you can afford gold diapers..
.. you probably don't shit anyway.
Erm Titania?
According to William Shakespear, Titania: Queen of the faeries, waves her magic wand and all the faeries do her bidding.
It makes me wonder...
...with all that smoke and fire from the sabat if the smaller AA versions could be developed into a plasma gun. That plus the EM pulse from the thing might wipe out any aircraft without actually having to hit it.
Of course you would not want to fly your own aircraft anywhere in the vicinity, but what the hell.
Who said fixing IT problems is boring?
It is boring, but not easy.
Glow in the dark
"but had yet to hear back by the time of publication on Tuesday"
Just so
Loosing the rivet the other reason.
You did not mention the need for replacement of rivets on time expired airframes, a major maintenance cost. On the other hand how do you handle checks on a welded airframe. NDT is ok, but any repairs!
520 days
Maybe, but it is a lot easier when you have gravity.
Really scary.
Looking at the photograph, did they actually spend 520 days in a launderette?
Pot Kettle Black
"Microsoft who made all these billions of dollars in investments". Yeah and made all those tens of billions profit. They owe us I reckon.
"examined by two government psychiatrists" ?
To say nothing about an eyesight test.
That is an excellent point
I used to work in the electricity supply industry and when we worked out the demand on a housing estate we used the equation AN+12=ADMD (after diversity maximum demand). A is usually in the range 1.5 - 3kW, N is the number of houses connected to the system and 12 is the size of largest appliance in use (usually a cooker). So for one house the demand might be 14kW for one house, for 2 it would be16kW, for three 18kW and so on. This was ok for houses with gas central heating but for electric storage heating (did I say this was a looong time ago?) we had to use a different range for A (up to 10 actually).
The thing is that all over the country the electrical network supplying most of the housing is designed on a low value of A. If you buy an electric car with a 10kw demand the electrical system will be ok but if your neighbour and his neighbour buys one that the electrical supply system will soon be in BIG trouble.
To put a scale on this, the supply network to electrically heated houses required larger cables and because of voltage drop could only distribute to half the length: you have four times the number of sub-stations. So this is what you might face: rip up the street to install new cables and give up space in your garden for a new sub-station.
On the up side the supply to your house will probably be ok.
Tupperware Comet
Even with clean air - bendy wings! Urghh.
Has anyone got the patent on the Anonmous Coward mask?
The first time a saw the mask was in a film, I forget the name but I am sure you will help, anyway it is a Guy Fawkes mask. The point is that they are appearing everywhere. Who own the IP right is the question and of course are we going to see a "Storm trooper mask" fight?
Exactly 3,521?
There's me thinking it was a phishing attempt.
Please tell us that the passwords are not compromised as well.
Who was the someone? If my details are out there let's name names.
Spooks?
I see on BBC's "Spooks" they used to use Nokia, now they use iPhone.
Gobsmacked
Been negotiating an upgrade for some time. Come back to O2 on Monday, get a really exceptional offer to move to iphone, agree terms by 1pm.
Tuesday 10am phones arrive, all up an running by 1pm.
24hours! I am stunned, this is not the way O2 do business.
Trust
When the Microsoft rep says "one of the features that we want to make great" my defences automatically go to full on. Face it, it is never going to be great, that is just hubris. If it is just better I would be happy but knowing Microsoft sequence of failure/success W8 is probably going to be a pig so acceptable would also be "great".
If it is so good -
- what happens if they use silicon and sulphur at the same time?
There is another solution
When I was learning about electrical energy it took a considerable suspension of belief to be told that whilst current went down the wire and voltage appeared across the terminals of a resistor the power that appeared in the resistor came in at right angles on the Poynting vector. Through space! Of course in those days we only had 4 dimensions to deal with, now with substantially more branes it is a lot easier to explain. That things can act through dimensions which are not visible.
Another puzzling thing which I have not seen explained is the suspension of Relativity at the Big Bang: the inflation from a singularity to the condensation of matter to form the early universe in 10e-15 seconds. How is it possible for matter to move as much as 15billion light years in this time? The only explanation I can determine is that in a singularity gravity is so great that space and time have no meaning, that the expansion does not so much involve physical movement so much as the expression of time and space to what is already in place: that what appeared to be a singularity was actually large but that space and time did not yet exist. Time may be more flexible than appears. Neutrinos may defy light speed.
Another similar thought is that the proto particle soup is non-relativistic and not bound to travel in a 4 dimensional space time continuum. In these circumstances do neutrinos travel in the real world?
Opinions
As Dan Brown has it, the Bible, the Koran and all other religious books were written by men. They contain the word of men not of God. So far as I know God has never actually said anything to anyone. Some of the writing say that God spoke, but is this true? At his distance of time and with the vested interests of the intervening tellers, I think not.
If you like I can prove on a scientific logical basis that God exists. However I do not believe in Religion. Religion is falsehood.
I had a dog that did that.
This 12 years old, used to wander out into the garden with all the ailments that an old dog carries, and then come back like a spring chicken. Turns out she was snacking on windfall pears and was a drunk.
She died the next summer of liver disease!
Unlike some
You are lucky to have a job!
Erm!
"Police said the woman has repaid the bank, Barclays, for the damage she caused."
And they still don't know who she is? The standard of the policing really has slipped.
Excuse me madam
"Carry your bags Mam?"
Or was that "carry your mams bag?" How offensive?
Below the belt blackmail?
Or "no belt blackmail"?
All this talk...
...about waves and surfing and you want me to believe it will not fit in a sharks head.
Patent on a design?
Does that mean I can patent the Ford Mondeo design, ooh, or a Porsche 911?
"the White House and the halls of Congress were evacuated"
Thought they were pretty vacuous anyway.
You mean....
..It will take so long to write them.
Anyway NASA are not known for short books. See the Apollo flight manual.
Get him onto the LOHAN team now
Yes. Now.
I originally titled this "Get him onto LOHAN now". But I know how your minds work.
Pricey -
Yeah well. I have been using AutoCAD for over 20 years and I don't think LT is a bad product. But, and I have complained about this so many times, it is very expensive. When it came out it was about the same price as an OS, but now! Really! Would you pay over £1000 for Windows 7 and you have an upgrade to pay for each year? Well I would not if I didn't have to.
So look out MS it might be time to move over to Mac.
BASTAAAAARDSS
YES!
"landlord had failed to get a grip"
Hang on a minute, quite clearly he had not. Maybe that was the problem.
Anyway I thought an onanist was someone who liked wine.
No, I do mean wine, not the other stuff.
Don't think so..
.. it will make them more angry than they are now.
On the other hand if the police has sub lethal weapons available i.e. Taser maybe the whole thing would not have kicked off in the first place. Another thing: maybe it should be an offence to hide your face in public, after all, if we could see who the perps are maybe they would behave.
Memory loss?
Hard wired is better.
"many are whizzing along at up to 27,000 km/h "
You journalist never learn. These are orbiting satellites. What else do you expect the speed to be?
Also seen on..
.. McAfee. Now there's a surprise.
WTF are we flying here
Don't forget that there is a rocket motor in this and unless you are going to be exotic it will have to be a standard commercial unit. These gunpowder units have a very limited duration, probably not sufficient for an aeroplane to get clear of the balloon. A rocket might stand a chance but will only achieve another 300m or so altitude. The main altitude is provided by the balloon, for this reason the three tier partially inflated solution will be best if that is what you are after.
On the other hand it this is just about proving the technology then you are doing fine.
On the other hand it this is about the fireworks then I would favour a hydrogen balloon with the rocket firing as the balloon bursts passing through the gas cloud. Now that would be AWESOME.
And 5hr duration?
(HaHa) (That's a hollow laugh up the sleeve.)
No sign of the Soup Dragon
The grooves are the marks left by the ropes used to kick start the thing. Obviously.
In other words..
.. the risk of getting a cancer caused by your next door nuclear meltdown is less the risk from other causes. Why aren't we shouting about this.
"folding wing design" ?
If it achieves any decent speed, yes they will, and probably a the most inconvenient time. They might even drop off. Anyway I thought this was to be a rocket not a plane.
If you are using a tractor motor what is the fuel? I had assumed you would use solid fuel but even the largest commercial rocket achieves only a 2 second burn. If you has a conventional push motor you could stack the motors to get a longer burn and more range but not if it is in the head - what then?
Erm!
"which keeps the quasar going and will do for the foreseeable future". Yeah 12 billion years into the past type future.
That would be OK then.
I see you
Your a frequent flyer, right?
"inna-bun"
I hope you asked Terry Pratchett if you could say that.
Not original
We MK already make a remote hand-held lighting control equipment that is battery free collecting energy from the aether.
By the way nice comment: "causing cancer (or not), headaches (or not), or irrational panic (too often)". Nail on head.
Smoking gun
You know we will not find a smoking gun.
Think on this. The late Jurassic was 12m years give or take a few. In this time the number of dinosaurs living in this period would have been in the tens of billions. This has produced a few thousand skeleton fragments not even one per year for that period. And here we are looking for evidence of extinction that happened in a very turbulent 6 month period.
Realistically it is just not going to happen.
It is amazing..
.. what you can spot when you are wasting drinking time on a Friday afternoon
Also amazing that as they fled they could measure the beast as 13cm long.
What's all this centimetre business; these units do not exist officially, even in Germany. On the other hand they do recognise the Olympic sized swimming pool, well any size swimming pool actually.
