Going back

Upgrade my 4 to iOS6 last night and I'll be restoring a backup as the new Maps suck! Though it won't be long before I jump ship to another phone as Apple really seem to have lost the plot. They've spent more time building a higher ring fence with the maps, and YouTube removal, without adding anything worthwhile for the users (you know Apple the people that pay your wages).

I think it's a good move.

I hope it goes well for Nokia and MS, after all another big player and, hopefully, good OS and hardware can only be good for driving competition and advances in the mobile arena. I for one welcome that because it'll be me that benefits in the long run.

Cost cutting

You also need to look at some companies hiring policies. More and more places are hiring people on the cheap with little skill or experience and dropping them onto these roles which ultimately are coming back to bite them.

There is no replacement for skill and experience.

Not paying that much for a fan that still has make in [China/Malaysia] stamped on it. I went of Dyson stuff as soon as the move overseas happend. It pimps itself as British and charges a premium price but it made overseas.

Well what can one say apart from this is what I do

1, Take daily image of root.

2, Delete previous days image of root.

3, Take a weekly full back up of my important files.

4, Delete the previous backup.

Why do I delete the previous back up? Because I don't like relying on software to cover up for my own stupidity. If I've cocked up my files then I'll remember not to do the same thing next time.

What do I use, Acronis. Have I/would I use MS back up. Yes and yes if I was being cheap and not willing to pay for other backup software. If I had to use it because I was cheap would I strop? No because I've paid for the OS not a backup application.

Paris because it would only take a floppy to back her up.

Xen Server

Very interesting. I'll have to look into the details of it as I've been wanting to build a very small Xen Server for dev work for some time....

eReader

Did they really need to give the students these just to find out what everyone already knows; eReaders are not for reference book reading!

I've a Sony pocket and I'd snap it in half if it was the only way I could read a reference book. Now don't get me wrong as I love it as a pleasure reading device as it allows me to carry many and being the type of person that likes to read two or three books at once it's been the best Christmas gift I've had in years. The addedc bonus is that it helps me keep the weight down when I travel.
