The best selling point
It's not a decrepit iFolly! You will not be Borg’d.
Re: They Won't Listen, Nor Could They Understand
"I'm afraid all we can do is let them implement that plan until its futility is demonstrated"
You may be a bitch, rolling over to take it, I am not!
Let's NOT wait 10 years and FAIL ANOTHER GENERATION!
"A lot of the arguments against porn blocking sound like the arguments made against gun control - basically "I'm responsible and everybody else should be too". Noticing that forced me to consider my own position and made me change my mind. Network level porn control is, on balance, the lesser of two evils and we should focus our energy on making sure it works well - e.g. it doesn't outlaw LGBT."
"Since it is now very much a normal part of life, so why should the internet have special exceptions?
Why should the access to pornography on the Internet be any different from WH Smith?"
You can turn the TV off, you can decide not to go to WH Smith. You can allow your children to use a computer/smartphone with filtering software in place.
If you block everyone at the network level, you will never LEARN.
Is that what you want for your children? No, I didn't think so!
Or if you do, supply your adress so it can be passed to child protection services.
Re: It's poorly implemented, though.
"One this is implemented I can see ISPs rushing to get Reddit, Tumblr, even Twitter added to the block list - simply so that they can charge £1 to unblock 'adult content'. Unblocking will become the first thing people do, just to get access some core, 99% 'innocent' sites - thus invalidating the whole system, and making the only winners the ISPs."
Exactley! Only mumsnet are not capable of understanding this!
And they wonder why they get "wash the dishes and cook my tea"?
They are making themselves look stupid.
"I'm literate enough to police my kids network connectivity."
Which is an adult, considered position. I respect that!
I have no respect for those who dump their responsibilities onto the rest of society. (Explains why I dispise huge swathes of the 'Glish)
If you want to keep your child safe, LEARN what the risks are and how to overcome them! I can then have hope in society and believe that I'm not surrounded by selfish dumb "people".
Excellent point, well made
"Parents also need to ensure that they still have anti virus and anti spam software installed on their windows machines, but it would not surprise me in the slightest if those of a less technical bent assume that this filter will also filter out that kind if thing..."
It is not up to the ISP to prevent viruses, it's up to the user to learn and apply security.
Blocking porn at the network level means that the mumsnet crowd will never learn, which is worse! Far worse!
If porn is so unnatural/unhealthy/bad, why is there so much of it?
If you see porn as unnatural/unhealthy/bad, those are attributes that YOU are applying, denying the truth. Teaching kids about sex has always been an issue parents have shyd away from because they don't know the truth or their religious beliefs make them think it is evil. These are the worst type of parents and will only prodcue another generation of fked up kids, and the cycle starts again!
Grow a pair and teach your children properly!
"The Prime Minister wants ISPs to filter pornography, just as mobile operators have been doing for half a decade or so. Users wanting to access adult content will have to opt in, just as wireless users do today, and everyone else will get a censored version of the internet with the naughty bits removed, which sounds reasonable enough but has half the internet up in arms."
Your misguided version of "reasonable" is dangerous!
What is reasonable is that those who do want a filtered internet should be responsible for doing so.
Stop trying to dodge your own responsibilities, doing so makes you a complete and utter flake and should not be allowed to have any responsibility. I believe that you should be monitored by social services. You clearly demonstrate that you do not have the capacity to know right from wrong and present a danger to those around you.
Sad people trying to blame others for their own failure!
Re: @xyz (was: America....)
"You're a lard-ass? Poor bastard. Learn to fuel and exercise yourself properly before you die entirely too young. Or don't. No skin off my teeth."
Eat drink smoke, do whatever you want with your life and die happy.
(Without having to explain that your actions should not harm others, tho the fking obvious always has to be stated!)
Re: has your code evolved lately?
"For technical readers, many of whom probably write very clever computer code, how many believe that if they leave their computer, or a main frame, or Google's entire system to its own devices, that any useful program, utility or intelligence will evolve randomly given enough time? Isn't that the same fundamental idea as evolution?"
No just walk away and GOD will do it! Idiot!
Re: has your code evolved lately?
Nice bible bashing there Stu18!
Your cult have done well at programming you.
All those faith believers who dismiss scientific discovery should be denied medical treatment and let their god treat them!
Re: Slight confusion here
"I am more than happy to accept another persons right to believe in god without being ridiculed"
I do not! This evil needs to be stamped out.
Re: Slight confusion here
I just can't understand people. The clue is in the fucking name "faith"!
It's not FACT.
Those who are not religious seem to be better, more decent folk.
The the "faith" types you need to watch out for.
If religion is supposed to be the moral pinnacle, why do the religious nuts all want to kill?
This mental illness of "religion" needs to be addressed.
"A significant number of Americans believe they have been abducted by aliens...."
And the rest of us believe these 'mericans are just a wee bit silly.
W O W!
Makes the 'mericans look rather stupid!
"Apologising for the distant past serves no purpose."
Your mother didn't do a very good job! You've just smacked her on the face!
Yes, let us apologise for our wrong doings. Let us learn from these mistakes, let us own them and pay for them. Let us villify those who supported them and upheld them!
Do do otherwise highlights just how much we have NOT changed.
Just been outside and saw this young woman (16+) with the longest legs all the way up to her ....., though phwoar i'd destroy that.
Is this going to be made illegal too?
Well done Dave, you'll do anything to make yourself look good, you fking retard!
Re: Steps to censorship
"and the internet is going to be useless."
Mumsnet, Fakesuckerbook, gov.uk, any shopping site, witter, etc... Are you saying these are useless?
I'd agree wholeheartedly!
I Dispise the 'glish scum!
Why do all the retarded "think of the children" always get away with it?
Why do parents always pass on their responsibilities to EVERYONE else?
Oi, scum! Look after your children and stop leaving the internet to babysit!
Where are social services? They should be heavily investigating these scummy mummys.
Scummy Brit parents, kids having kids!
The country is just such a MASSIVE let down!
Re: No obligation to resolve
Of course there is a reason. Money is there to be conned out of the stupid!
Plenty of folk will happily give it away. Just make them feel good.
Piece of fruit anyone?
Re: But why bother? Why should they care?
"Tinyurl.com proves (by existing) that many people actually prefer to use short if meaningless names."
NO! - On both counts!
Tobacco companies prove (by existing) that many people prefer to smoke and not be a namby pamby girl and waft away a smoke cloud!
Re: Does this excuse still work?
"at least I hope some are actors "
Afraid not. These are our peers. Apparently!
Curved or not, if it don't hang on the wall, it's useless. Or shall we all go back to the TV stand or worse still the 80's TV cabinet? How quaint.
"If anybody is more concerned about their current use of the cloud because of the Snowden business, then they really walked into the situation with their eyes shut."
The whole world does it. People just dont care less. As long as whatever it is suits them, they dont care what or how its being done unless it goes wrong.
Re: I wonder
"once you've had easy big screen access (as opposed to HDMI from a noisy bulky PC) it's hard to go back."
Sounds like you need a tech refesh!
"If the Apple can do to tv and movies what it did to music and downloads then buying shares in Apple now would be a good idea?"
Do you live in a cave? WTF? There are a myriad of services out there.
No one wants a shitty iTunes for tv content!
"He said: “When you look at the TV experience, it’s not an experience that I think very many people love. It’s not one that has been brought up to date for this decade. It’s still an experience much like 10 years ago or 20 years ago"
Sky is great! Sorry Timmy, once again you have no fking clue about what you are talking about.
We don't want Apple doing to the TV market what they did with eBooks!
Apple can not be trusted.
Re: ::pops some corn & grabs a beer::
David Hicks wins!
Think of the children!
"a citizen is free to worship any god or gods they please, so long as they" do so inside their own space and do not pollute the minds of our children!
"growing Islamaphobia in our society"
Religious beliefs are like sex. It should stay where it belongs, in the privacy of your own home and not seen in public!
All religious “recruiting” in public places should immediately be outlawed to prevent this sickness from being spread to the vulnerable in society.
" The S4 is not at all confused for any iPhone. That plasticy build is clearly a world apart." and is something which is appealing to vast numbers of consumers considering the iFolly looks as old as a motorola razr.
No wonder the iFolly market is shrinking! It’s as old and decrepit as its user base.
Re: Another one?
"are these the same patents that a UK court found were invalid?" but of course the 'mericans don't and will try to flog to death hoping that their chose of ifolly does not embarrass them anymore.
That smug slowly drains away and replace with HUGE globs of shame/remorse/embarrasment.
Sad sad people need to move away from the embarrasing folly and embrace real innovation. Sorry, your hipster tag has diminished!
Re: What's the state of Android Accessibility?
"With this news as well, at least Apple seem to be taking the issue at least semi-seriously."
Stop kidding yourself! These feature sets have been already been implemented superbly by real companies who do innovate!
Re: "ridiculed as unnecessary fluff"
"A firm is making an effort to provide accessibility to the disabled, and you're going to ridicule their attempt as unnecessary fluff?
I'm guessing you don't feel El Reg has much of a readership in the disabled demographic, eh?"
The weakest arguement from an iSheeple to date (and that is difficult, just look at the state of the iFolly).
You've been fooled!
Re: @ JoshOvki
"MacBook Air is a dangerous task, best left to professionals."
your kidding right?
Apple is just so last decade! Move on it's 2013.
Everyone and their dog has leapfrogged Apple for gods sake. Their hardware and OS WAS great.
The yanks caught with their pants down again!
I'd respect them if they told the truth and "we" didn't have the need for whistleblowing.
I suspect the NSA need to look at recruitment and ask candidates if they have any integrity. If they have, they are no good as they could be the next whistleblower. Of course those working on contract knowing the evil that is going on and syaing nothing are those without integrity and are easily bought like a bitch.
No wonder the number of Islamists is growing!
The yanks are their own worst enemy!
Fine them the amount consumers had had to pay in excess of the price before they committed an offence!
Ban them for selling books as punishment for their underhanded dealings.
Jail those responsible.
Yorkshire Tea is foul.
Typhoo is tasteless!
"Cheap China junk sucks" The iFolly isn't that bad!
