"it's an issue at the mast " is the clue.
"high-frequency signals don't propagate very far but that doesn't matter because each phone mast can only handle a certain number of users in its cell area anyway, and this capacity is more likely to be a problem than the distance to the nearest mast."
I wish Orange/EE would understand this. My phone is regularly bumped off the network without warning. EE saying it's an issue at the mast closest to my location, but it's not. It's oversubscription.
I dont know you. Explain how?
Silverburn is talking through his bottom, making wild assumptions without basis. Don't bother with the discussion.
Microsoft wobblers tempted by the fruit of Apple's mobes can now indulge themselves in up to date tech with features sets and capabilities expected in 2013, and not hold a luddite's phone with limited feature sets in the last decade and poor design!
The FT is heavily biased. Pinch of salt?
Look at the bigger picture and it can be seen that it's not just Apple having to deal with a slow in demand (no matter how great they think their ithings are).
Re: its a reboot issue for me
"Looks like I will have to go back to an Iphone"
iOS is worse still! Are blind/deaf/dumb (circle as appropriate) man?
"That's a pretty big issue...
Mines the one NOT made by Samsung"
What, bigger that the mess of iOS?
Mines the coat without the shiny shiny with no real use phone.
The door is definately the most worthwhile/valuable item in any Apple store. It actaully has some use. It's certainly not the baubles inside.
I hate stubbornly arrogant people.
Apple invented shite all.
"business school the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) won a directive from a Gwalior district court to block 78 URLs, of which 73 linked to defamatory content about it"
Well done. You've done more to make yourselves look like crooks.
"Jony Ive fondly remembers making a paintbrush holder out of an old detergent bottle after watching a Blue Peter episode"
Says it all. After all, the "i"things really do look like a five year old's drawing.
What a wan*er!
"Some people are very rude and they slam the phone down."....embarrassed that they not only purchased Apple, but could not even find the correct telephone number for their local Apple store. They should have asked SIRI.
Those Apples are becoming rotten.
"five years in prison and five strokes of the cane"
Bring back the cane. Replace ASBO's with the cane or lash.
Let's instill some discipline into the 'glish.
Bugger the smart TV. My PC has been connected to the telly for years and years.
Yes the telly is a good medium for web browsing. I often browse web pages, with friends around the telly.
The telly just needs to display content I send to it. It doesn't need to have all of this functionality built in, I just want a built in sky decoder and fully fledged PC. The rest of the crap is just filler.
Easiest battery life improvement technique:
Bin the rotten Apple.
Go for a better phone. Maybe with a removable battery?
Re: @AC 08.32 Listen
"Cars are horribly inefficient and distances are much further (I live on the West coast). There is no equivalent to parking in the town center and walking around all the shops, we have to drive to each one we need to visit."
Sounds like poor city planning.
Re: @AC 08.32 Listen
Way to split hairs evilgav
"Yes, iphone same since 2007. Apart from
4 case designs
doubling screen resolution
6? operating system versions
3 SIM sizes
moving to LTE from GSM via 3g
starting an app store, which has generated $8 billion for developers
quadrupling the cameras pixels whilst increasing aperture
doubling the number of cameras
doubling processor speed over five architectures
octupling system memory
But apart from those, totally the same."
Yeah, exactley! They are the same, with incremental uplifts as tech allows, not because Apple innovated.
"make the OS as attractive as the hardware"
How, their both FUGLY.
"When Cook has the blues, he medicates himself by visiting an Apple retail store. "It's like Prozac," he said"
Funnily enough, seeing an Apple store makes me want to take prozac. Fking depressing.
Re: Even if the parent's knew how to restict their childs phone...
"however my wife says it would be unfair for our daughter not to have a mobile as most of her class has one."
That is the weakest excuse and also the most heard. Attending a seminar is not the same as paying attention or even understanding the seminar.
"Big Data is all the rage. Now if only someone had to clue what to do with it."
Says it all.
Just ignore the sales men.
Re: Why an app?
""The Register would like to frame the question differently: why did FireReady have to be an app at all?""
Because the sheeple must have one to justify their poor tech choices.
When droid has the largest market share, surely writing for droid first would make more sense?
Not that most human beings have any.
"can’t recall the last time I bought a card to celebrate any anniversary ................. I’ll take a stab and say sometime around the 1990s."
"This is not because of any problem with the iOS software. It is just a symptom of the very complex nature of mobile comms, lots of different vendors, differing versions of firmware"
Of course its iOS at fault. Otherwise an update would not fix the problem iOS has caused.
Apple should be fined. My network connection is often intermittant (where it used to work perfectly), now I know why. Thanks Apple.
Re: Microsoft are planting these stories in the media
"Apple phones work. They always work. They are cool. I am cool. You should copy cool people. Buy an Apple phone. It works. It always works. Its cool. You can be cool"
Copying peolpe isn't cool. "Cool" WTF? isn't attained by purchasing something deemed as "cool" WTF?
Re: Problems with iOS6.1? nah!!
"Um, have they?
You're taking the word of two operators... yet other operators are reporting no issues."
..........and your taking the word of your lord and master.
Re: Problems with iOS6.1? nah!!
"My iPhone 4S is on EE, I updated to 6.1 about 10 days ago and have had no probl ems at all. Now 0n 6.1.1, no-one seems to appreciate that apple have done an update so quickly!!"
What sheeple don't seem to appreciate is that Apple should never have released the shite without thorough testing. So the bollox about "update so quickly" is moot.
iOS is as shite as the iPhone design.
Re: 6.1.1 just come out...
"6.1.1 just come out...
...to fix this very problem. So hush now fandroids, go to sleep."
"Hmm, since the end of Jan, my android device has intermittently stopped receiving calls/texts until I restart it. I wonder if it's related..."
Why do you attribute the problems to the phone? It's the network!
Re: Iphone4s DDOS update.
"I really surprised that people are still buying Apple crap."
Once you realise that sheeple haven't got a clue, it becomes unsurprising.
"and all phone users are affected by the fruity overload:"
So its the fruity owners who are causing my phone to drop off the network? Wankers!
it is time we collectively admit that social networking is pretty much crap, full stop.
This is all nonsense!
God made us all in the year 0000 and nothing else. If you don't believe you will be castigated and shunned by all.
"Why that 16-month-old device and not something else was not immediately clear"
Neil, your hack colleague has published an article about wasteful practices around IT purchasing.
Your "Why that 16-month-old device and not something else was not immediately clear" observation would suggest your approval of such practices.
There is nothing wrong with "that 16-month-old device".
If you really think so, then your demonstrating just how butt-f*cked you are by the advertisers.
I don't want to be watched all the time. I support kids wearing hoodies to avoid it. Good for them.
Also, I hope they shit on your doorstep."
Scummy kids from scummy parents. Another set of rats with no morals/dignity/education/worth.
Thanks for confirmation.
Oh no, scummy people hate me. Shocker!
"(I'm not actually English, but I am sick of whining idiots like you. If you hate the place so much, why don't you leave?)"
WOW you though that one out throughly didn't you? "whining idiot" or ENGLISH citizen who expects MORE from the scummy populace. You clearly don't give a shite about England, so maybe we would all be better off if "your sort" followed your own advice?
Re: Cameras everywhere
"No wonder our youth are all hoodies, I don't blame them!"
I do. Kids don't grow up to be men anymore. They grow up to obfuscate and not take any responsibility for their actions.
Seeing as kids learn the behaviour from their parents, seems that the majority of the adult English populace are, well, a bit scummy?
"The coalition government, keen to avoid being seen in the same light as the database and snooping-obsessed previous Labour administration, has issued a draft code of practice that it claims "introduces a philosophy of surveillance by consent"."
Typical Tory ploy which, unfortunately, the plebs will not see through like a pane of glass.
I hate the english. I hate being surrounded by dim-wits.
Apple will want to keep the cash to save face.
It might be another 20 years before being able to earn such amounts again, and that donut ain't going to be cheap.
Re: Where I used to live ..
"tea is for the evening"
Sir, you are insane.
Turn kettle on
Place tea bag into cup
Once water is boiled, pour water into cup. Allow to mash (Yes, yes, brew etc) for about 4 mins until you cannot see the bottom of the cup
Add a splash of milk (with teabag still in)
Wait a further minute or so, stiring for the last 20 seconds.
The using a spoon, drag and squeeze the bag up the side of the cup.
Sit down and enjoy and last 5 mins of your break.
You sick, sick man.
It depends on the blend of tea. Sorry Lester, there is no black or white with the art of tea.
A nice early grey would not take too kindly to having milk added. It is not bitter and doesn't require sugar.
A cup of brand tea (e.g. Tetley/PG/etc..) must have milk added. This is bitter, so if you prefer bitter to sweet, you don't add sugar, else a small amount of sugar minimises the bitterness.
Of course you can't escape those heathens who must have more milk than tea and 3+ sugars, blurg!
Coffee drinkers are like the rats on the underground. Common, expendable, of no worth.
Coffee for the commoners. Tea for the gentry.
" increasing dependency upon short-life electronics "
I'm not. You may be. I assume that you are the type of idiot the advertisers (and Apple) love. If you can't live without changing your tech every "9 months", your parents didn't do a very good job at "raising" you.
Surely using paper would encourage this antisocial behaviour?
When will the plebs learn?
"it seems not to have caused problems other than making it hard to reach some web pages for a few minutes"
What is this craze, you must have a FB login to access other sites?
Don't they realise the 1,000,000's don't want a FB login?
Their loss, not mine.
