BT to up targets for FTTP rollout 'if the right conditions are met'

Re: Fibre to what?

They never did. Virgin started the whole "our existing network is fibre now", the rest of the industry did the same, and then alt net operators tried to sue to stop that because they needed some PR to cover their own deployment failures.

BT themselves now use "ultrafast" whether it's g.fast or FTTP.

Re: Pointless G.fast...

Who is stopping anyone else from doing what openreach wouldn't?

If the fly by night alt nets wanted to splash some cash on FTTP they're completely free to do so. They've been finding out quite recently that it's not as easy as they used to claim.

Re: Dreaming of 1s and 0s

As someone who had to wait years after anyone else to get ADSL, I'm glad that someone is finally caring about the rural parts of the country.

Always makes me laugh when some Londoner whinges about how their broadband isn't fast enough. At least you have it, many people have it slower or don't have it at all.

Manchester's on fire for ID cards, claims ID minister

Hm...

How many of the alleged 62,000 application packs have been or will be converted into ID cards?

I can see quite a few people applying for them just so that they can say they did it, before the entire ID card failure slides into oblivion...

Will we see them on eBay once Cameron cancels the lot?
