Re: unambiguously located
The switch on the top of the Pre was great.
No mess, no fuss, just a simple click and everything was silent.
Shame the rest of the hardware was pretty dodgy.
Re: There are some brilliant technical minds out there
"Hopefully some of them will be putting some serious thought into developing a truly secure e-mail replacement (for hosting outside US and UK jurisdiction)"
Wouldn't matter, as soon as the email hit a UK/US ISP, the respective governments could/would require you to hand over the decryption key.
All your private communications belong to the Gov. You just are allowed to think it's actually private.
Re: Thnaks a bundle, Register
You honestly expected to have *not* found out by the time the episode aired in a few months time?
Not sure if you're trolling, or just stupid...
Range vs Temperature?
75 miles on a charge, but what was the ambient temperature during the test drive?
Driving one today, when it's currently -1 would surely impact on the range the battery can put out...
Different networks for different purposes.
It all depends on what you want from each network...
Chatting to a friend in Poland (she uses FB Messenger almost exclusively to talk to everyone, so I have no choice).
Trading banter with colleagues and casting doubt on their sexual preferences (human, animal, vegetable etc).
Using my profile to log into sites that require it, such as Spotify used to.
Decent, intellectual, conversation with like-minded people and groups.
A much, *much* better cleaner interface.
Massively better mobile app.
As G+ are now rolling out site/app authentication using your G+ account, that's one less thing to use FB for - pretty soon it'll just be for chatting to my Polish mate and nothing else, and at that point, I'll probably consider just closing my account or stripping it bare of all personal info and using it as nothing more than a glorified MSN Messenger.
DLC rip off
I'll not buy any more Nintendo stuff after how they responded when my first Wii went tits-up due to a knackered graphics chip (a known issue on the tech forums, caused by leaving it on standby rather than switching it off - it caused it to overheat and damage the chip...Nintendo denied this...)
As it was well out of warranty, I bought a new one and then contacted them to transfer all my DLC over to the new one.
They flat out refused, saying I should have sent my old one to them, paid for their repair, and they would have transferred everything over to a refurb unit so basically I was screwed.
Oh, apparently everyone on any tech forums was wrong, and there's "no issue with the Wii, and if they've had problems, then they're obviously pirates who have broken their system." (direct quote)
To be honest, I've never ever seen a swimming pool in an episode of Coronation Street since 1983...
Would it be in bad taste for me to give that post a 'thumbs up'?
Re: Wikipedia has a lot of problems
This is exactly what happened to me.
I had edited a page of a local radio DJ (at the invite of his co-host who had also edited it) to include the fact that he had previously had a hair transplant (which was true).
His co-host added a line saying the DJ had won a Sony Radio Award (which was also true)
Within minutes, both edits had been reverted, and when I asked why, the pompous prick moderator told me something along the lines of "you don't make the edits, we do" and banned my account.
Mine was down for a while, but as it coincided with my number porting over, I'm not too bothered..
It's back up and running now anyway.
$99.99 - $149.99 to rent music and never own it?
Re: "Many societies ... consider homosexuality to be contrary to their culture [or] morality"
But only the female ones.....
£677 taken out of my account twice....thanks a bunch, tossers.
Re: A word of caution
"I never leave apps running"
There's your problem.
Repeatedly opening and closing apps uses more juice than if you'd let Android decide for itself whether to leave them running in RAM or not...
An utter classic.
I lost count of the joysticks I knackered playing that.
Re: Relaunch Blockbusters!
Simon Mayo hosts it.
“Upon receipt of the Complaint, I reached out to Plaintiff and spoke to a self-described “Negotiator” in an effort to see if I could prove to them … that I had nothing to do with the alleged copyright infringements,” one defendant said. “The Negotiator was offered unfettered access to my computer, my employment records, and any other discovery they may need to show that I was not the culpable party. Instead, the Negotiator refused and was only willing to settle the Complaint for thousands of dollars.” The Negotiator later failed to return voice mails.
Doesn't that just say exactly what they're after?
Not justice, just money.
"OneCable Sync and Charge" ... "And it's only a tenner."
Price listed underneath = £35
Re: Height of Karen Gillan vs Daleks
"They brought out new Daleks so that Karen and Matt would be eye-to-eye-stalk with the new Daleks."
No, they brought out the new Daleks just in time for Christmas, and all that delicious merch money.
Re: Very good & about time too ?
People watch ITV?
Re: I don't understand
"Google and other search engines etc have a "takedown mechanism" in place by which content owners can send them a request to have something removed from the site or de-listed from search engine results."
So did Megaupload.
They've never been on any time I've gone through Manchester.
Let's hope he gets the spanking he deserves...
Vibrators take batteries, dildos don't.
They'll just wait till it's complete, claim they thought of it first and sue for infringment.
"What IP is there in a name?"
Start a company called Microsoft, and see how far you get with "but it's only a name..."
"Will the Mac support Freesat? Freeview HD? PVR Recording?"
At a price, probably.
I've got the latest already, but when I put more than, say, 30 books on in one go, it usually locks up when indexing them, requiring a full reboot.
Still worth it though.
Excellent bit of kit.
I paid this for mine from Borders before they went belly up (decent exchange rate at the time)
The battery life is a little dodgy on it, and occasionally it'll freeze if indexing a load of new content, but apart from that, worth every penny.
More to the point, fuck the developer for bending over for them.
"They should have had a few large diesel generators"
Sod that....have you seen the price of diesel these day??
Do it online
I logged into my online account, waited a couple of mins for the "A live operator is waiting to help" box to appear and then explained to him why I wasn't going to provide my credit card details to pay for services that I have already been credit checked for, nor was I about to take time out of my day to visit one of their stores (there's one less than a 10 minute walk away, but that's not the point...)
Within 5 minutes, the block was lifted.
Fuck them, I'll leaving just as soon as I contract is up for renewal (unless I could claim this as a change to my contract, and get out sooner?)
Required title is required
Perhaps with the icon being noted Taff actor Rhys Ifans?
'Drive Thru' for some reason...
I loved my original Pre, and still think the OS is one of the best on the market for any mobile device.
However, the reliability of the original hardware was shocking (seriously, search for "pre oreo twist" or "pre headset stuck"), and I eventually had to call it quits and buy a new phone as the earphone speaker worked for all sounds, except when on a call, when it would shut off.
I've moved onto a Desire Z and, unless the reliability of the Pre improves massivley with the Pre 2, I won't be going back.
That said, I would love a tablet with WebOS on it...
On Freesat HD, BBC One HD will actually be on channel 108, with BBC HD moving to 109.
It's looking more likely I'll have to switch from UKOnline then.
Shame, as it's a bloody good service, albeit at a slightly higher price.
Title goes here
I have to agree.
I loved my Pre at first (and still love the OS), but the reliability of the hardware is shocking.
I'm moving onto a Desire Z, just as soon as HTC pull their thumb out of their arse and release it...
I'll be first in line for the WebOS version, it's a great little OS, easily hackable too.
Nicked from b3ta
Bugger all for WebOS then?
"surely machines have a fixed jackpot, which remains the same regardless of how many times its claimed?"
A lot of machines over there have an ever increasing jackpot, with the value based on the total amount of money wagered between big wins (some jackpots are linked up to a single board displaying the total amount, even though there may be 20+ individual machines all linked up and contributing towards it)
A huge win would cause this figure to go back to a predetermined starting value.
using the Classic emulator.
"Fingers crossed the HP tablet turns out to be fantastic."
If they fully develop and use the already excellent WebOS, then I can't see it being anything fantastic (hopefully leave it easy to get to dev mode too, like it is on the Pre)
Oh, and pull their collective fingers out and give us the long awaited Flash plugin too.
I've only just got a normal Pre.
Oh well, can't complain, it's a cracking phone.
Only two?? open your eyes!
There's two on the back (shown on page 1), and the third is obviously on the side(shown on page three).
Didn't you bother to read the full article?
I've been in both Wakefield (numerous times), and Pontefract, and with the exception of the ICU ward, the staff really don't care if you use a mobile as long as it's A) on silent, and B) used quietly.
I regularly used my netbook and USB dongle, and no-one batted an eye.
