i-Book

Great idea, if it was just called an ipad there is less likely a fanboi might buy it if they already have a larger one. But make it loook like a different product and they'll all want one.

Homework made easy

"Bing and other services to add in content"

So, just select the question, right click and choose "Insert wikipedia search", job done and off to the pub we go.

US Reporting Style

Not that familiar with US news reports, is that normal that they only mention the health status of the victim at the end, almost as an after thought?

Re: and can boot to Snow Leopard in a VM

You know apple don't allow you to do that on non-apple hardware, good job apple don't acknowledge the register exists given you didn't post anonymously .

sentences to run concurrently

What is the point of a concurrent sentence?

vic 4

Surpised

that they are turning it off, gives a good opportunity to snoop on people!

$20m fine!

Why are the people who decided to do this in jail? True you can't send a buisness to jail but just because you break a law while at work does not mean you are not responsible. The same goes for banks and their staff over this side of the pond.

If that's not the case, I'm off to rob a bank and claim it's a calculated risk, shame I'd have to pay corprate tax on it though if I don't get caught.

tax breaks for creative industries

That's hardly going to help Google, presumably you have to pay tax to get a break, or are they proposing the tax man pays them?

Re: If Jobs were still alive ...

No, he'd say it's no big deal, just change your pocket lining.

vic 4

none are the supermarkets

That would be a full time jobs for a team of people for a large chain, everytime I go into those near me everything has been rearranged. Unlik ethe local hardware shop, I can tell my wife over the phone the exact aisle/location on the shelf where anything is. Try that in a supermarket and you'll be sprinkling washing powder on your cornflakes.

Re: starting from 1

Starting from 0 seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Re: FAKE!!!!!!1111!!!1121!!!!!

You see his mate(?) use a phone afterwards, maybe it was him?

vic 4

"extremely enthusiastic"

Or maybe just being polite and wishing lunch was over so they could get away?

vic 4

unnecessary middleware layers ...

... between the web experience and the underlying hardware

But at the expense of adding a whole load of unnecessary middleware between, say the phone application and the hardware? Seriously, this will need some grounding in reality to take off.

Re: So...

No, html5 supports offline apps.

Hmm, shame Apple don't sell a sense of humour on that there app store of theirs.

Re: Private sector?

Agree with your second paragraph.

That first one though, I don't even know where to start and I'm not even going to try. All I can say is you appear to be living a rather fortunate life and are blinkered to the hardships many people in this and other countries go through just earning a living.

vic 4

Reverse image search

Maybe google could enhance their image search to use their reverse image search in an attempt to locate the original source?

vic 4

App store sells AV software

So maybe this was removed to sell more software + look out for iAV sometime soon.

I invoke Zawinski's law

Didn't know facebook did email, but never used it. But according to jamie Zawinski adding email support is the last feature that will ever be added to a piece of software*. Start of the end facebook?

* Ok, for the pendants it is the feature to read email.

Re: "you know exactly what patents you have to license"

Certainly not agreeing with moto/google's stance. But if they know they need these why does it take them years to get around to licensing them. Anything I make/sell I make sure know how much it's going to cost before hand. Plus don't forget that other companies have licensed these for similar amounts.

How do you reckon that it is a sinking ship or are you just trolling?

Re: Macbook Air compact mirror

Obvioulsy not a complete fanboi, otherwise you'd have a iphone4 and use the front facing camera as a mirror.

vic 4

Re: Don't worry, they aren't.

Aren't what? cool or breeding? (wasn't sure which message you were repliying to).

vic 4

Re: @vic 4

Duh! never thought of that, but then again would never have thought that would need a*******s

vic 4

Re: £44m+

Is not £44m profit. I think a company pulling in £44m profit a year would be worth a little more!

vic 4

Re: m*****d

Could you give another letter or two, I may be getting niave but I can't fill in the blanks. Second thoughts, I don't want to!

Re: Multi- search engine results, sounds interesting

But not new. I used to use one as my home page many years ago (think it was dogpile), I ended up switch to google as after a few months the best results in 95% it returned were from google. Might try going back

Common sense prevails somewhere in the US legal system at last!

Wonder how much it would cost

RE: Who but an expert ...

I think the point was that they are claiming that their opinions are not going to be based mainly on facts or include biased becuase they are apple fanatics. To be an expert you have to be able to derive an opinion on evidence, not because you think it's neat.

Re: Of course, since cadmium is such a harmless element

Think you are missing the point. It's a starting point, get something working and improve upon it to get something practical

Re: no multiple inheritance

"I like to throw that one in because it seems I'm the only person in the world"

Not the only one, but pretty sure you are in the minority. Try repeating the folloing mantra 10x a day, "composition, not inheritance"

Re: It was getting money for nothing on this one

Not wanting to stick up for oracle, but they did shell out a fair bit of cash so not exactly money for nothing, revenues form this would have affected the price they paid for Sun.
