Apple files patent for iPhone enabled auto-adjustable auto interior

cs94njw

Nice idea, but with Android the most popular OS in the world at the moment, why would a car manufacturer tie themselves to Apple? An idea this obvious is bound to be applicable for all mobile phones/devices. Perhaps Apple is thinking it's cool if you're wearing an Apple watch, and your car settings are included in that too.

Could be interesting when most of the car manufacturers starts incorporating Android support instead iPhone support, and then Apple sues Google because they won.

Re: So...?

In the UK, and for at least the last 5 years, I pay a monthly fee which covers the cost of my contract and my phone. There's no up-front payment.

My wife looked at the figures recently, and yep, you do up end up paying more overall over a two year contract.

But, what can I say? I'm addicted to new phones :(

As a "power user", the chance for an even faster internet experience is certainly very appealing.

But with a miniscule data allowance, I'd get to experience that speed for approx 5 minutes :(

Leaked docs: GCHQ spooks secretly haul in more data than NSA

cs94njw
WTF?

Or another way to interpret this...

...The GCHQ are BETTER than the US.

And they probably have access to any European intelligence too.

They are involved in intelligence gathering. If they didn't do the things they did, where would they get all their intelligence? A man in the pub? The police? (ho ho - my little joke).

NSA whistleblower to tech firms, Obama: 'Grow a pair!'

WTF?

Don't be so naive guys. If you had to protect your country, and you needed information about potential terrorists, you would use all resources at your disposal.

Google holds a stupendously large amount of data about you - your location, your emails, phone calls, credit cards, etc, etc. It would be laughable if the US Gov wasn't taking advantage of that large amount of information.

Maybe I've dropped my guard with 24, Enemy of the State, etc, etc, but I hope they are using that information.

There is a special relationship between the US, the UK, Germany, and I think another country - where they share information they have. France are annoyed because the other guys won't let them join the party.

We criticize police forces for not sharing the details of suspects in-between counties, and if there was a major terrorist issue - the papers would be blaming the US Gov for not predicting it or dealing with leads.

I'm more worried about the more boring departments than the NSA & CIA - tax, insurance, police. That's when the information they can use becomes very personal.

Maybe I've watched too many films, but in a way, if our countries aren't spying on us and every communication, I'd be a bit worried. What the hell are GCHQ, MI5, and MI6 for, if not!?

Let them spy, but ensure there's a oversight committee or a defense for citizens who are wrongly accused due to bad/insufficient evidence. There may be false positives, but ensure there's sufficient way for innocents to be reviewed and excused.

Re: @Aoyagi Aichou

If I couldn't buy cheap second hand games, then I probably wouldn't buy any games.

Bah - The NRA will save the day

What is everyone worrying about? The NRA has vast amounts of money and pull with the government. They'll demand their rights as specified by the founding fathers, to bear arms (even if a bit plasticy).

Surely the NRA is interested in people defending themselves, and not the self preservation of the non-printed weapons industry?

Re: Is not the legal first duty of a company to its shareholders?

I don't think you'll ever be able to write water-tight laws to prevent tax evasion, so I can see why they haven't tried.

But - I have to say I'm impressed with the government. What better tactic to use against popular companies, then actually making them unpopular.

I hear Starbucks has actually had a real down turn in their profits - and with hundreds of coffee shops per city, and this stupid name-your-cup thing, it's quite easy to avoid them.

It's tricky to make Google unpopular, Amazon too.

But this "immoral" onslaught is probably the only way something may change.

2. I can't see someone paying for it.

Facebook to debut auto-play video ads in 2013

Meh

Fair does. Facebook has to make money somehow. Personally, I can't remember the last time I saw an advert on Facebook - I probably mentally block it out these days. And if I'm doing that, others probably are too, and click rates will be going down.

I like Facebook, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay for it. Part of its appeal is that it's accessible to all.

Who knows what is a workable solution where Facebook can make money, and is acceptable to the user.

TomTom for Android with hands-free kit review

cs94njw

Re: Why Bother?@AceRimmer

I suspect this is more due to competition issues than any lack of interest.

As you said, the lacking features wouldn't take much, but could destroy a Global company over night (or at least a few of the smaller ones).

If I bought a SatNav, it wouldn't be TomTom - way too expensive. I'd buy a SatNav for 2 features tho - a hefty battery, and lane guidance. Live Traffic routing would be nice, but couldn't justify the cost for a non-business driver.
