@The reason why there are so few women in tech...
That's bullshit. Even if every last "cosmetology" shop/lab/whatever was full of men i would not for the life of me chose to work there. Even the initial assumption is absurd. It's a question of choice, not gender bias or some sinister male conspiracy ffs.
Can we please lay off the PC crap for a second? For one thing no one forces boys to play video games so the argument that _forcing_ girls to play them makes them better at rotating stuff mentally (wtf) is not really an argument just an attempt at avoiding the fact that men are better than women at certain things because of the choices they make over time.
I'm sure now a bunch of rabid feminists will start quoting random numbers and using the argument that if women aren't as good at math as men they are certainly better than men at some random shit as though that's even relevant to the discussion. Save your breath for the scone circle, i'm not even remotely interested.
Flames 'cuz i need to get the asbestos suit on before posting this comment. Sad state of affairs really.
I remember a time...
...when people took pride in the fact that Linux was hard to install and use. The idea being that the harder it is the more you learn and the better off you are for it. Sadly now everyone is trying hard to copy the winblows approach and just make everything as simple as possible. I think it's the wrong way to go.
If you aren't willing to put up with the learning curve and want something "that just works" then feel free to go to hell and use windows or whatever is trendy these days. It's morons like you who help spread malware and other crap.

@RE: More Eco-Drivel
The "wasted energy" you're talking about is insignificant. Keeping your TV on standby helps prolong its lifespan. The more you turn it on and off the more the filtering caps wear down...guess what happens when they crap out? The whole lot gets scrapped instead of replacing the caps. Way to save the planet brainiac.
"Excuse me if I don't celebrate when a wife "harasser" admonished by wife (a tale oft' heard in the backstory of, well, Toben and countless others) has his particulars removed from the system."
If the wife made it up and the guy is innocent (I'd dare say 75% of the time, but that would be construed as trolling) then there's no reason for the bloke to have his DNA in the database, is there you silly feminist git?
Best name ever?
Mine's the one with the mountain dew can in the pocket.
before they get sued for disconnecting some old guy from the interenet who doesn't even know what file sharing is? This law is total and utter nonsense.
"You _cannot_ sympathise with Nazis without being a sick, twisted individual, who is not welcome in society."
Ofc you can. It's called freedom of political affiliation. And i don't sympathise with them, i'm just saying that raising an _idea_ to the level of pure evil is the wrong thing to do. First it's nazis, then it's people who don't like democracy, then it's people who like to have an opinion and so on and so forth until we come full circle. It's a bad frame of mind is what i'm saying. And to the reader who tried to lecture me on communism...i live in eastern europe so you're pretty much preaching to the choir on them being hateful gits.
"Of course Islamic extremism isn't the same as Nazism, I was just using it to illustrate a point on freedom of speech. You _can_ be a Muslim without being an extremist (unlike the Nazis)."
If it isn't the same then what point are you trying to make? If you need an example of a dedicated nazi who didn't slaughter innocent people think of Michael Wittman. Just because most muslims aren't going to blow themselves up doesn't mean they don't hate/dislike you, should you revoke their freedom of speech because of it?
What i'm trying to say is that no _idea_ should be taboo. Everyone should have the right to say what they think. Ofc acting on an idea is different than having an idea but i guess you already figured that out.
Damn i'm sick of the nazi strawman
"I'm not sure I agree though. Had the internet been around in the 1930s, would you feel that attacks on Nazi run websites with blogs and forums etc. promoting fascism, encouraging racially motivated attacks and generally furthering the Nazi cause over-seas, was a noble undertaking or authoritarian censorship?"
Every time someone has a problem with an idea they start making comparisons to the nazis/commies. Enough is enough you bloody morons. The people who slaughtered jews/gypsies/non-arians in general weren't nazis or commies, they could have cared less about their ideology and they would have done all those things regardless of the pretext employed. Stop bashing an entire ideology just because some cowards hid behind it.
I thought linux doesn't have a kernel debugger...so all you have to do is to check for one and you know you have a rootkit ^^
(using debian stable for >1 year and still going strong)
Tinfoil to deflect a big piece of rock? I want what she and the judges were smoking -.-'
The giant coil idea is the best i've heard so far ^^
@Implausible = flying an airliner into a New York building
Meh, it doesn't rly count when it's a conspiracy by the gov :P
To all the morons..
...defending the mounties, do any of you understand the notion of heart surgery? as in cracking someone's chest open and stitching it back together. consider what kind of force one would have in one's arm with a cracked sternum while lying down under the influence of various drugs. morons -.-'

"(f) civil liberties taken seriously, "
are you bloody insane?
...for even considering ever emigrating to Britain to work oO
What is a...
...criminal official? oO
"Each panel will be advised by ten “experts” from different sides of the debate, including scientists, academics and law enforcement and >>criminal officials<<,"
I honestly hope...
...that Linux doesn't end up as winblows. there are plenty of idiots as it is demanding "windows likeness" and "better integration" of individual gui components. piss off and read a manual/use the console, you bloody noobs!
and to the killjoys saying that this is sensationalist news: where the hell are there billions of people using windows? oO I'd be amazed if even one billion people had a PC/mac/whatever connected to the interwebs,
...I wonder if they are being retards on purpose. *sigh*
did he just post twice in the same topic? i feel special for seeing this happen ^^
...hippies. 'nough said.
"It's good to offer choice, but I think the Linux market is pretty saturated. Regular people who want to use a PC buy Windows or maybe Apple, which are customer-oriented systems. Only a small fixed percentage of people will buy Linux, as a sort of political statement against "big business" or to feel "elite" (which it is not really). But you can't get your work done on Linux or play good games. It's not a practical choice."
customer oriented? like hell vista is customer oriented.
political statement or a need for something that actually works?
...people should try and look at the cause of this whole comeback for fascism and whatnot. why does everyone try to go for the symptoms instead? (btw i have no idea what the root cause would be :P)
Let me get this strait...
People should be allowed the right to free speech as long as it doesn't offend anyone? Go choke on a dick! Free speech > gay rights
(no pun intended in the title)
"Why would the Chinese really bother , since they are very sucessfully destroying all western industries without firing a shot? ,and our governments are too busy playing god to notice!"
It's called a free market, no one is forcing companies to outsource. it doesn't necessarily save money or improve productivity, It's just that managers are twats for the most part and they need the extra cash for a new boat.
here's the thing. if you manage to ban everything that depicts these sort of things and you rely on strangers(teachers, priests, etc) or scared parents to do all the teaching on the subject matter how do you expect these people to have a better understanding of the subject matter? i say get them while they're young :P
