I don’t fret about the diehards either but I do fret that the end story, will come right out, after IK Pegasi or Betelgeuse explodes!
I wonder if in the future, a 'Minority Report' style system may actually come into favour.
A forced induced coma would certainly be a frightening deterrent for perpetrators and could satisfy the public's desire for vengeance. It is a pretty terrifying prospect to be disconnected from the natural world of time and space. Denied seeing the development of society and culture. To know that you will be denied even small pleasures such as eating, reading, TV, etc
Costs may actually be reduced. Smaller Prison footprints, reduced guards and physical security. Obviously, offset against increased medical monitoring, etc.
Miss carriages of justices resulting in an instant Lotto type lifestyles as compensation.
I wish I did Latin at school but it was not for oiks likes of me. Aggregated society deems we can't have too many state school kids having a leg up and decoding the language barrier that leads to elitist jobs in medical, legal, clerical and (latin)olgy professions.
As for encouraging coders of the future. I would favour the creation of a whole new school subject for everyone, such as 'Algorithms and Logic'. Computer programming being but a component for practical demonstrations. Hey even throw in a bit of basic Project Management.
I am sure everyone could benefit, from being be taught a bit of logic.

This is an issue that we can all go puritanical over. Ban alchohol from Westminster (and smoking) to safeguard our dear MP's health and welfare. I care so much for them, that I would even introduce compulsory breathalyzer tests. I know they would understand, as they have nothing to hide, thus nothing to fear.

I think she needs to rewrite the bit about her legs.
I have seen this and these fights are actually pretty dull.
The Orca hit the sharks and flip them on their backs. They then keep them upside down until they go into a catatonic state. Where the Orca will then start dining at their leisure.
In fight terms it would be a bit like watching Royce Gracie quickly choking out Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Great! So the Federal government of the United States is going all 'environmentally friendly' by introducing this cart.
So what about all the energy used to extract and refine that 5,000 tons of gold. Which apparently is roughly 2.5% of all the gold ever refined throughout human history. Just to store it in a building for 70+ years doing nothing. Citiziens aren't even allowed to view it, to see how shiny it is!

£2.7bn has been spent of which £1.8bn has already gone to BT and Computer Sciences Corporation. If the projects is ditched, I imagine that this, then relinquishes companies from their obligations of which they were going to fail at. Lucky for them!
To salvage the mess a new feeding trough will have to be prepared. Wouldn't surprise me if the same pigs turn up again for their share.
I was never lucky enough to have a Vectrex of my own but I remember the excitement as a kid, travelling up to central London on the tube, then playing on the ones in Hamleys.
In the early 80's the Hamley's basement was like an Aladdins cave of electronic wonders. Kids used to spend all day in there with free Vectrex, Atari, Intellivision, Astro Wars, etc. Magic times and far cheaper than going down to Heathrow Airport to play the arcade games there.
I can understand the geographic advantages of Iceland being promoted, as a world's leading data centre. i.e. central location, green geothermal power and cheap cooling. But surely all these great advantages and plans can potentially get shaken up a bit. If even highly engineered nuclear power stations have trouble with earthquakes and tsunami. I am not too confident the data centre won't either.
Hey, I might just be pessimistic but I blame Emerald Atlantis - it just sounds like a Green Natural Disaster!

That Ane Rand didn't appear to be much of a looker. So being 25 years older than Nathaniel Branden. One has to wonder whether he shagged her, motivated by dubious rational egoism or pure ethical altruism.
I would also love to see that 5,000 pong experiment run again but with more information. How many of the individuals were doing the actual work?? i.e. breakdown of changes made to inluence the situation and how those individuals stack up in relation to personality type, etc i.e. (Extravert/Introvert, Authoritarian/Libertarian)
Is the consensus an impetuous herd movement in the initial right direction, who then keep their original choice. With this being tempered by cautious thinkers with holding their initial positive affirmation until it is apparent that they are called to do so? A nice eample of fine tuning of collective consciousness, despite the noise of egotistical management types, changing their decision constantly (ala the headless chicken effect) as they 'can and must' have some part in overall positive control.
