I agree that as a "rentier" I should be compensated for loss of service! That's what respectable services do. Anyway, i tend to use Google Drive r/t Adobe Connect for syncing between laptop and desktop.
But I'm not sure if subscribing to the cloud with all those apps I don't use and don't need is economical. I'd like to see "pick 3 apps", "pick 6 apps"... pricing.
Wolfram Alpha gives it as 11.18 km/s
Or, in most European countries, that would be 11,18 km/s
By the way, is today 10/9 or 9/10. Depends on where on the globe you live.
But I am surprised that Google missed this one.
Still why the discrepancy with Wolfram Alpha?
SPARC, not Sparc !
While I no longer work for Sun or Oracle (long story), still it is spelled SPARC and not Sparc. Trademarks are supposed to be observed, even across the pond. Hmm. I guess I should have written "spelt".
Besides, SPARC means something specific. And Sparc just looks like some chic way of spelling Spark.
Whatever. But your legal department should be worried. (Does The Reg HAVE a legal department?)
You'll notice that even the previous commenter got it right. David +1, The Reg -100 (because it's been at least a hundred misuses by now, and probably my 100th email on the subject.)
SPARC rules! Just spell it right.
It's SPARC not Sparc
Well, at least The Reg is consistent ... consistently spelling it Sparc when the trademarked acronym is SPARC in every article I've seen. When will you get it right?
SPARC SPARC SPARC SPARC SPARC SPARC SPARC SPARC SPARC
But what compilers were you using?
You can't expect best performance on these things unless you are using a compiler that optimizes the generated code for the specific runtime processor. Generic SPARC code will not take advantage of the new features of the processor.
Currently, only the Sun Studio 12 update 1 compilers (C/C++/Fortran) will generate optimal code for SPARC64 VII. (And they're a free download)
