Move over Raspberry Pi, give kids a Radio Ham Pi - minister

RISC OS
FAIL

In secondary school...

...in science we had to mess around with this kind of crap. No one liked it, building circuits and radios and stuff. My brother likes all this stuff, and guess what he did it outside of school too because he was interested in it. Everyone else in my class hated the subject.

Giving lessons in this or that is a nice idea but, MPs, don't expect lots of people to start wanting to become engineers, only one person in my whole class now has anything to do with building electronics, and even she wasn't interested in it while at school.

Yahoo! hack! leaks! 453,000! unencrypted passwords!

RISC OS
Joke

My password is password

Funnily enough I knew someone who's password was a password, and every servrice he used back then had this "password". He thought he was really smart... I think lots of people do... "Enter password:".... hhaaa ok... "password" - bang your in!

Sort of on a par with the dwarves at moria "Speak freind and enter"...

Ex-Soviet space gunboats to be FOUND ON MOON

RISC OS

Great idea...

"We want to have the same kind of tradition that Britain had in the 16th and 17th centuries when its explorers went to the ends of the Earth..."

Yeah, and lets hope that like so many of these early explorers, that the people going to the moon don't come back. The kind of people that could afford a trip to the moon are the kind of people the world could do without.

"... Some forms of lichen, for example, can survive perfectly well in space (exposed to the vacuum and radiation). Aside from meteors blasting stuff into space, it's possible we've even transmitted something in the equipment we've sent to Mars etc. ..."

Yeah but what kind of super touch lichen would survive entering another planets atmosphere on the back of some flamming space rock... surely it would burn up on re-entry?

Unhappy

cushy indeed

I bet the reason why it cost so much and why someone like yourself wasn't contracted is because it provides, as you say, a "cushy" job for someone... probably someones son, wife or, daughter's boyfriend.

Probably why they are so crap and why only 203 people have seen the films... that's probably everyone the person making them has on facebook - plus 50 from him/herself just to see what their films on youtube look like.

Inside Eric Schmidt's brain: Holodecks, robo-cars and jail bandwidth

RISC OS

Internet a human right?

twat. It's not a human right. He shoudl leave his billion dollar house once in a while and step in to the real world. Not everyone wants or needs faster internet, and even if gave me an android device I wouldn't use it. I don't want touch screens, I don't play games, or have games consoles, I don't need more than 1computer - my current internet speed is fine for everything... google shouldput some of there money help social problems in the world. Not everyone wants to live in an interconnected technological world.

The last thing we need is holodecks - probably with floating adwords and a huge back bar above everyones head tracking everything that they do. In start trek they appear to spend maybe half an hour a week in one, but you can see what happens in the real world when you have artificial worlds... people start spending their whole fucking life there... look at that guy in asia who died in gamer cafe surrounded by about a 100 other people and no one noticed for 7 days or so! Holodecks - no thanks.

Child abuse suspect won't be forced to decrypt hard drive

RISC OS
Thumb Down

(sigh)

well if you ever have kids, and one of them gets abused and the only way to prosecute the fucker is for the police to find evidence on his hard drive, I'm sure your being glad that he wasn't forced to decrypt his data, or that the jury were not informed that he refused to do so.

RISC OS
FAIL

Re: what

This is not torture, he is simply being asked to decrypt his hard drive. What's wrong? Worried in case your drive ever needs to be searched... have a little bit of kiddy porn?

Yet another childless computer nerd who thinks it's ok for children to be kindnapped, rapped and killed.

RISC OS

Re: Why?

That he obviously has kiddy porn on his computer. Make him an offer, say the police will ignore anything illegal that they find execpt kiddy porn. If he still refuses it is obvious why, the jury should be made clear that the police wanted to look at his harddisc, and he refused. If he is innocent, he has nothing to hide. People get checked for all kinds of things by police when they match a subjects description, at airports for body scanning... can people refuse those kind of things no... and there is no reason to.

The register is a nerd hangout, nerds without children or any chance of getting children, but anyone with children would not be writing the kind of comments that have been written about this article.

RISC OS
FAIL

What a stupid idea, of course he should be forced to decrypt.

I hope the jury is made aware that he has an encrypt harddisc that he refuses to decrypt.

Station 267 not listening...

Station 168 not listening...

How many british people share these fon memories of IT lessons? Then the "IT teacher" tries to protend he knows what he is doing a gives the old BBC micro a thump on the monitor... "Sorry you'll have to find a nother computer" was the usual response.

After that sitting in pairs trying to learn about the battle of the bulge, or how to make a teletext page... the wonders of british IT lessons.

Is it any wonder that there is an IT shortage? When 30 somethings grow up using BBC micros, and if they were lucky the acorn archimedes.... of course once you get in to the real world you soon realise that no one ever uses these things outside of school. Making everything you have learnt completely useless.

Ubuntu Studio...

... that's new to me... I looked at the screenshots and then I realised why Adobe Apps are still the industry standard and why real designers use apple/windows. If that's the kind of interface that can be created using free graphics software I can see why the worlds design companies don't use them. I can see why linux users think GIMP/inkscape are great programmes... the people using them obviously have no idea about design... and think just because they have learnt to use a stupidly designed graphics programme, that that some how makes them designers. Fail.

Funny

Linux users complain all the time that people should stop trying to make linux like windows... they are different. if windows users complain that it is different they get laughed at.

Yet you and lots of other linux users don't seem to like change either. Now maybe you'll understand why people coming from window dislike moving to Linux... because it is different to what they are used to. Your just as locked in as the people using Windows and Apple

GNOME emits 'head up the arse' desktop update

RISC OS
FAIL

Because...

They probably didn't use Adobe Creative suite to come up with the designs and mockup and so on...

They probably tried to us the Open Source shite that so many Linux bedroom "designers" (who only ever seem to make websites for their brothers best mate and their sisters hair dressing salon) think that GIMP and Inkscape can even be compared to Adobe's offerings.

You get what you pay for... if you use free crap you produce crap. Also Apple employs and listens too user interface designers... whereas Linux devs go to a designer after producing their crap and think something is still salvageable.. and then decide not to do what the designer suggests because there interface is so complex and the code created by so many people that it is impossible to actually make useable.

Also if the dude in the red chinese shirt (why is he always pictured like that, it makes him look like a twat) want anyone other than nerds and geeks to write wikipedia articles he should make the thing understandable to normal people... does anyone understand what they see when they try and undo something?
