Major UI rethink required

You could do some good stuff with this but you would have to be brave enough to rethink some of the user interface - not something that most windowing systems really allow.

f'rinstance, all the the big display is used for active work and all menus, pop-ups and messages on the little'uns. Like function keys only you can see what they do.

Given the coservatism of most application developers it is doomed to highly customised stuff helping UPS drivers and traffic wardens.

Yes it is a gesture, but what is it symbolic of? What does the symbol mean?

Does it relate to Alan Turing or is it just patting ourselves on the back?

What does it say about the other people prosecuted under 'offences against the person' famous (e.g. Oscar Wilde) or unknown and uncampaigned for?

The need for speed

Agree with AC of 16:34. Regulators are suppossed to protect the market and consumers, Monopoly => No market => We get ripped of more than normal.

What we need are regulators with the nads to make sensible decisions quickley and not have things drag through the courts. Otherwise a legit investment by Oracle is rendered valueless by years of delay.

Having said all that, I can't believe Oracle bought the whole of Sun just to get its paws on MySQL. It just isn't that valable. If it is going to cause endless delay, it will get spun off or put at armslength like EMC-VMWare

Apologise to a dead guy, Prof Hawkins?

I would be fascinated to hear the undoubtedly rigorous logic Prof. Dawkins uses to explain why he is apologising to somebody who is by Prof Dawkins understang out of ear shot. I am sure he has an independantly verifiable experiment to demonstrate that Dr Turing appreciates his noble gesture.

Surely not an empty, meaningless ritual?
