No blu-ray playback?

Though this detracts from the 'media centre PC' idea, especially in this day and age, is the slot-loading drive replaceable? And if so, would it cope with Blu-ray playback? (If not, there's always external Blu-Ray drives)

Peak Cape 7 Ion

Finally.. NO OS option!.. But audio...?

About time they started releasing a NO-OS option of cheap net-tops like this. I have an MSDN license, so I'd be greatful to receive this little critter with NO-OS and save a fair few bob! Not sure about the DVI-D however.. not quite sure how that'll deal with audio :-(

@ Bob

That's a very good point bob, although my TV has the option to manually select a sound input also (LG - model number escapes me!)

Comment required? Pah!

After a quick froogle, the only model I can see available for that price is the lesser i3 model, NOT the i5 mentioned in the review. Be wary!

Android on an iPhone? There's an app for that

Adam C 1

Amazing!

Does anyone know if the GPS works well? I've bought a few apps on android, namely CoPilot live and it's non-transferrable to the iPhone :-( If I could use this IT'd be awesome!

WTF?

In Portland, Dorset

And Dorchester, and Weymouth, we had a power cut for nearly 20 minutes.. At 12:00. No coincidence, surely?!

Oh well, at least I got to test the UPS's at work :-)

I can see where you're coming from, but...

You do get exclusive use of it.

You have to pre-register (Up to 30 I believe..) numbers, and 4 of which you can use at the same time. It's not as if anyone on vodafone can walk by and pinch your bandwidth.

I do completely see where you're coming from though. We have 4 vodafone blackberries at work and managed to wangle one of these free when we whinged about pish-poor coverage throughout the office.

Hero update blocks Marketplace

Adam C 1

Scrapped my hero

Text messages being dropped, poor signal, laggy keyboard (Even after a factory restore) drove me away from my Hero. Apart from that it was an impressive bit of kit. Unfortunately I am stuck in a 24 month contract, FORTUNATELY I've bagged myself an iPhone 3G for £100 with a cracked screen, which was easily repaired.

Sold the hero for £370 on fleabay. Job done :-)

Apple yanks Wi-Fi detectors from iTunes

FAIL

Yet another reason

To Jailbreak.

Like I wanted an app to turn my bluetooth off without going through five different steps.. is there an app in the app store? No, because you need to use 'private frameworks' to fricking do it.

Luckily, I found plenty of apps on Cydia that do the job perfectly, as well as an alternative to the Wifi scanner mentioned in the article.

Apple are due to crack down on all apps that use 'private frameworks'. It's against the App store rules, so the developers know they've done wrong incorporating it into their apps and would have known it was only a matter of time before Apple picked up on it, but this is still pathetic anyway.

This is perfect

For my car-PC setup. I have no connectivity on the move, but this will be ideal for planting below my rear parcel shelf to provide connectivity for my car-PC on the move rather than a fixed dongle. :-)

Lethic botnet knocked out by security researchers

Adam C 1
WTF?

Isn't this illegal?

I'm pretty sure taking matters into your own hands, vigilante-stylee and taking down a botnet is highly illegal, and why it isn't done more often... There's also a distinct lack of details on how they did it.

I may be wrong though.

About bloody time!

I'm absolutely disgusted with Sky wanting nearly £50 a month for BASIC access to their HD channels! Almost as disgusted as I was when they popped a leaflet through my door saying they'd offer a 'free'*** HD box to new customers.

I'm all for this new offering, to be honest..

*** - Free as in, if you sign up to more packages than you'd ever need/want

Parents demand control over text messaging

Welcome feature..

To be honest, a while ago I received a number of spam texts from a seemingly random mobile number. I'm not talking 3 or 4, I mean some joker thought it would be a good idea to spam me with a good 4-500 text messages in a day. I called up O2 and filed an 'abuse report', but no matter what I asked they simply refused to block the number.

When I pay these people £35 a month I expect to be able to block a phone number on request. Luckily now I'm with orange and the HTC Hero offers the ability to block stuff.

Exploding iPhone total rises as Oz officials probe alleged fakes

Adam C 1
Alert

Fake iPhones?! What a load of rubbish

Sneaking them into the country? Er.. a quick check on eBay see's these phones available worldwide for £40ish. The way the article you linked to worded it, they were a 'new phenomenon'.. They've been around for ages and they're shite! The screens are inferior, low-res, and the software is written in chinglish. They're hardly a 'convincing clone'!
