May I recommend WeWork Pyrmont?

Having bounced around a few offices in the city (started at Market Street, been in the Rocks, Surry Hills and now Sussex Street) I found WeWork Pyrmont to be rather nice, price wasn't too bad for the co-hab spaces (I ended up with a dedi-desk as I didn't fancy moving all my crap everyday in the freerange desks).

They have ping pong tables, lots of cool meeting rooms that scale to your needs and, oh yeah, free beer on tap..

They get hacked and taken down with less fancy strategies and the cargo snatched, at which point they'll be relegated to moving cheap tat no one would worth stealing, like your macca's lunch...

Re: Where Do I Find These Lawyers

You kid, but I wrote a website (still have all the code floating around on an old disk somewhere) that transformed closed nit group forum software into a more open and shared experience, allowing direct messaging and self profiles where you can share details of yourself and pictures.

We know a similar thing today as Facebook.

I am not suing Facebook, many people have similar ideas, those that press on with them, preserve and build the monoliths are welcome to the fruits of their labours, whilst me dicking around with a few mates online can disappear into the obscurity where it mostly lived..

Re: PC technology?

A raspberry Pi has an hdmi and four usb ports (for the B versions since the plus) so could easily be a Pi in a shiny box - which would also allow them to hit the deadline, as all the work is done in the design end.

I'd be keen on a steam machine that looked like that (the pc technology bit got me hopeful) but it's doubtful they'd go that route.

There should be a body that independently verifies these things, just so consumers know at least the level of inaccuracy to go with - I also question how many devices were used from a provider in case they got the one made on a friday arvo.

Sampler

Simple solution?

Sorry, this might seem a little simple, but, as we know what characters looks like what in other languages, when some applies to have a domain like raural.com that become paypal.com is to simply flag it as unavailable, just like if someone owns the domain already - surely it wouldn't take much longer for a script checking to see if the domain you wish to buy permeates the unicode and checks all possibilities before returning the results with a big fat "computer says no" when you're trying to spoof a domain.

Yeah, a few people may end up not being able to get the domain they wish, but let's face it, most people buying a domain face that problem these days anyway as someone's beaten them to all the good names anyway.

Or am I over simplifying things? I could quite easily be, I'm rather the idiot..

Re: Hmmmm

Note 4 needs a removable battery as it drains so fast (or, at least mine does now it's a few years old).

I had a Sony Z1 prior to the Note4 and it had no hardware button at the bottom of the screen, worked fairly well, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this, and, as I've mentioned above, hopefully there'll be a way to re-assign the bixby button to shutter release.

The 9110i might only have been £463, but, you're not buying something that can do what a 9110i can do are you? From the looks of it, it's not far off a desktop PC from the same era - how much did that cost and it was how much bigger?

Sampler

Re: Nice

The article says the battery isn't removable.

My hope is you can disable the AI and adjust it's button to be a shutter release, maybe an official option is too much to hope for, but maybe one of the genius's over at XDA Devs..

Suitcase padlocks are pointless, if you don't believe me, do the following test, go get your suitcase, apply the padlock, then take a cheap biro pen, take the cap off, force it through the zip, then pull it aside to open the zip.

Rummage through the suitcase then run the locked zippers across the opened section, et voila, looks like it was never opened.

Sampler

hilarious

the same week I'm astonished I managed to board a plane (admittedly, an internal flight) without providing any identification what-so-ever (and, for the first time in a long time not being "randomly selected" for bomb screening, trimming the beard seems to be working) this happens.

I mean, it shouldn't be as easy as walking up to a machine, punching my name in and it spitting a ticket out (as was the case) before sauntering through security (who's metal detector should be checked as neither my belt nor watch triggered it...I shouldn't fly so early).

But really, devices no larger than a phone? What rubbish..

Re: Working as intended

The real question is, if electric usage is on average 3% less with smart meters, how much is actual reduced usage (and therefore worthwhile the roll out of said meters) and how much is under reporting by faulty meters meaning that a switch in meter types makes a negligible affect on users energy consumption?

I mean, it was in the interest of the meter makers that the outcome of testing users with new meters that reported electrical usage was down and therefore they get government mandated sales...

Re: Sampler

So, you admit greed, you had money, but you wanted more, more than the interest you'd get in the bank, yet I'm the asshole when you rolled the dice and they didn't come up in your favour because you made three poor decisions?

Sure, sucks to be you, especially as it sounds like your life resolves around money if you tried to kill yourself because you'd lost it, put you get no sympathy here for your sad tale of woe, idolising money over relationships with other people will never end well, I can't for a minute believe if you had stable, worthy relationships with other people you'd try to kill yourself.

+10 Irony bonus for making broad assumptions about myself whilst decrying broad assumptions = )

Sampler

I don't see a problem, if HPE were prepared to sell at the price then that's their own problem if he resells, yeah, they lost out on the difference they were going to get from those customers (if they'd bought), but, they still made a profit, tough shit really.

As for the investments, if you're going to pour your life savings into one company, there's a phrase about eggs and baskets you might want to look up, again, no sympathy for the greedy.

Yes, the guy's a total asshole, but, he's only hurting other assholes, HPE can obviously afford to sell them at the price they gave to him, so really, they're just screwing the rest of us (I know, economies of scale blah, blah, but obviously the scales are tipped in HPE's favour if he can make a profit with his own overheads).

Re: For the slow cameras...

You're recording on or off, so you want the exposure to be at a minimum, the most images the camera can do in a second, such as the sixty of a mobile phone mentioned in the article.

Long exposure and panning to create "bar-code patterns" of off and on would increase delay because you'd have to have a start and end marker because you wouldn't know if you're beginning and ending marks were off's and there'd be no way to sync with the recording device in the first place so it knows to start panning with the start marker and stop, take the next picture with the end marker.

Plus delay inbetween start and end to reposition for next pan (though, I suppose you could pan back, there's still a shutter/process wait between strings).

Android just isn't there when it comes to desktop. I put Remix on a spare laptop when el'Reg reviewed it before (in the link on this article) and it's a compromise, it was like, I can almost do what I normally do in windows, only it's a bit more wonky and not as many features/choices/options.

Forgivable for a young, free OS and apps that aren't designed with being on the desktop in mind, but, it's still that bit more annoying than using Windows, so why would I given the choice.
