Microsoft sends flowers to IE6 funeral

Bilgepipe
Jobs Halo

Good Riddance

IE6 is dead, Long live Safari. Or Firefox. Or Chrome. Or Opera. Or any of the alternative web browsers, which are all by design better than IE will ever be.

If only Microsoft had come through on their intention to stop developing IE altogether, the web would be a much better place. I look forward to the funeral of IE as a product, not just a single version.

Vaporware

Courier is just vaporware. It's not even a single coherent product, it's been any one of a list of vague concepts for two years. Even if it arrives in any physical form outside of a CGI rendering, it will be a third, incompatible entry into Microsoft's mobile platform failure.

Microsoft should actually try to create a product some time, instead of concentrating on trying to trip up its competitors - they even fail at that.

Microsoft to launch incompatible telephone

Bilgepipe
WTF?

The new is....

The news is..... WHY? There won't be an App Store on it - the Big Thing that everyone apparently wants - it's got a legacy OS even Microsoft doesn't want, no-one is going to develop for WinCE when Windows Mobile Pocket CE Phone 7 is right around the corner. WHY release this phone now, when it will be replaced later this year by Windows Whatever 7? They'll just dump outdated-by-design crap on anyone who buys it.

The news is that it's a stupid move, but then that's not really news when it comes to Microsoft, is it?

Apple yanks Wi-Fi detectors from iTunes

@James Katt

Not surprising to see the anti-Apple-tards downvoting your post. If this were Microsoft enforcing rules that developers specifically signed up to, the same commentards would be all over it as a Good Thing.

I'm not scrolling down any further, the torrent of uninformed crap posted by the Redmond Apologists will be unbearable.

Unfair

"What's the matter, Opera too complicated for you? Or just FF fan boys having a dig?"

I've seen several sites where Opera doesn't render edit fields and it's also never logged into Google Mail for me. Are you saying Opera is too complicated for me too? Or that I'm expecting too much to simply go to a page and want to see all the contents appear correctly?

It's not a case of the browser being complicated or me being stupid, it's a case of it not working correctly for some of it's users. And I'm not a FireFox fanboy - I'd use Opera if it worked properly, *which it doesn't.*

A Better Idea

Here's a better idea: rather than quarantine malware-infested computers, why not do the owners a favour and give them an operating system that isn't a steaming pile of fresh manure, such as...... well, anything other than Windows. That way, they get a better computing experience and the internet becomes a better place.

@Kerberos

A lot of insults and hyperbole in there. Can't Wintel apologists make their point without name-calling?

Too many BS points in your post to tackle all of them, but FF on OSX at home is running about a dozen tabs just fine thanks, as does Safari, Chrome and Opera. Perhaps you have a problem with your OS? But then I'm too cheap and/or stupid to buy a decent computer, so what do I know?

I like the name Kerberos - a yapping dog, wasn't it?

Internet Explorer 8 still not mingling well with 2,000 highly-visited sites

Bilgepipe
Gates Horns

Gasp

I think anyone with a brain saw this coming when Microshaft had to create a Compatibility mode to make IE8 work like it's own predecessors (Excel also has some stupid "compatibility mode"). Sites should never have been fudged to work with IE - a simple "Sorry, your browser is not compatible" message was the way to go, but everyone wanted to suck up to the clueless steamroller from Redmond. I do love how their own sites are on the list though.

The legacy of Gates' technical incompetence and insatiable market greed will hold back the IT industry for years, if not decades.

"Microsoft pulled a Jedi mind trick, dazzling people..."

And that there is the crux of it - all Microsoft can do is pull Jedi mind trick after Jedi mind trick, fooling people into buying the glitz and the flashy presentation, but providing no substance. "Never mind if it works or not, look at the pretty colours!" Who remembers the line from Robocop? "Who cares if it works, we get to sell spare parts for years."

Btw, they've solved the legacy problem by making WinMo7 incompatible with previous versions.

Experts rubbish iPhone for health use

Bilgepipe

Err....

"Curley said the ideal mobile device for use in hospitals would need to allow for a "hot swap" of batteries, without the device closing while these were changed, session persistance and fast log-in and connection. It would also be "ultra portable", have a good battery life, not get too hot while in use and be "cheapish"."

So why bother testing the iPhone? It's common knowledge that it does not meet a number of their criteria, and it sure isn't "cheapish." Sounds like he just wanted to play around with one.

Another Microsoft Playing Field

Much as I deplore what Google appear to be doing, once again we see Microsoft sneaking around in the shadows pulling strings: backing lobbyists in Brussels? They just can't bring (bing?) themselves to compete fairly under any circumstances, because they know as well as all of us that they would fail. No-one wants to use Bing, so they start sabotaging the competition instead.

Having said I can understand the complaint against Google. People are calling them the new Microsoft and I'm beginning to see why - neither can play fair and let their products compete for themselves.

We need good/evil Google icons. I'll use Bill for now.

Obsession

What's the obsession with this "control" that Apple is supposed to be beating it's customers over the head with? Look at Jb's comment above - "hand full on control of the family jewels to Apple" /WTF/ are you talking about? Have a word with yourself, ffs. My iPod does everything I need it to, control or no control, I don't see what the fuss is about. Where are the paranoid articles about console makers "controlling" what their customers are allowed to do on their own devices?

Apple iPhone tops 2009 smartphone sales

Yawn

"Yes, Apple sells the iPhone 3G and the 3GS, but they're essentially the same thing, differing solely on chip speed and storage capacity. They don't differ the way the BlackBerry Bold, Curve, Storm 2 and Pearl do, for instance." ... "In all, 1.211 billion phones shipped in 2009, down from 1.200 in 2008, according to Gartner. Apple shipped a mere 2.1 per cent of them."

What a bitter and twisted article. So this is the latest way the haters are belittling the success of the iPhone and Apples' "victory".

Wake me when a balanced article comes along, 'kay?
