Re: Rick Champagne (@TeeCee)

Most US producers of the wine formerly called Champagne now abide by the EU regulations, and call their version of bubbly Sparkling Wine or California Champagne (less common) There are still a few who were producing bubbly before the agreement was adopted by the US and who still use Champagne. Of course, if the company producing bubbly in the US is owned by a French Champagne producer, they do not use the term Champagne on their product, per orders from HQ.

Re: What I wish would happen to WBC

There was an incident a couple of years ago where all four tires on a WBC van were slashed while they were spewing their hate (in Oklahoma, I think)... When they were ready to leave, they couldn't because of the slashed tires, and every independent tire shop in the town refused to sell them even one tire. They finally had to have the van towed to a nearby city where they bought the tires at a chain store tire center... They had to wait for a break in the line of cars wanting service before they could get their tires... several more hours. The chain store tire center manager said he would have refused them service too, but the store manager gave him a direct order.

I don't remember "seeing" an invite to vote either... I read about it from another source, and after fifteen minutes of poking around, found the site to vote... and FB refused to process or acknowledge my vote... I have several friends who USED to be licensed contractors... they lost their licenses because of false bad reviews and claims of work not completed, after which their insurance company revoked their coverage, and effectively revoked their license since they can't have a license without the insurance coverage.

In both cases, they completed about ninety percent of the work in a timely manner and in a professional manner, then the customer filed a complaint with their insurance carrier and the contractor's state license board... The insurance company brought in a different contractor to complete the work, the customer refused to complete payments to the contractors for the work actually done, and the insurance company cancelled the contractor's insurance... which meant the CSLB cancelled the contractor's license for failure to carry mandatory insurance. The customers got their work done at a much discounted price, the original contractor was out the money and expenses, and forced to close his business.

Reminds me of a Christmas party some years ago...

Many of the employees were doing their best to get plastered, including the male half of one couple... The employee who served as Master of Ceremonies was cracking jokes, many aimed at said couple... He pretty much left his wife alone, and was cozying up to the young (very early 20's) niece of another female employee, and of course the MC made some pretty pointed remarks about THAT... Less than a month later, the couple had separated and the male half moved in with the niece... a few months later they were married (after his divorce was final). Said marriage lasted about two years and went south earlier than that because of their age difference (he was late 40's)... They had a huge fight and he came in to remove her from his health insurance... something he couldn't do until the divorce was final, but the paperwork slipped on through the system... THEN the brown stuff hit the fan... he ended up having to put her back on his health insurance AND pay all the back premiums AND for her office visits... Moral of the story... stay sober enough to know what you're doing... he didn't, and he paid for it. and had another divorce on his record...

Delivery drivers...

Last Christmas there was a video which went viral of a FedEX driver heaving a 24" monitor over the fence of an estate type home somewhere in the US... The owner of the house has a video security system which showed the driver pull up, get out of the truck, and heave the box over the fence... Owner of the house complained to a regional manager at FedEx, and the manager himself delivered a new monitor to the owner of the house... and walked it to the front door. FedEx wouldn't name the employee, and wouldn't say what, if any, punishment he received. Since FedEx drivers are non-union, I would imagine that someone got their walking papers, and the cost of the broken monitor was taken from his final paycheck.

Dunno where you're at, but in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Chippies seldom enforce the car pool lane rules... I have seen car after car with only one person in them driving in the car pool lane pass me while I observe the rules... Since I drive professionally, I can't afford to get a couple of tickets for a car pool lane violation, let alone afford the fine levied (up to $471, depending on which highway you're on). Occasionally, I try to keep track of how many illegal cars pass me... sometimes it's as high as 50%, usually at least 25%.

Oh, and they would take down the American flag from in front of the plant while you were training the Chinese replacements, then put it back up after they return to China... Think it won't happen... just ask the employees of Sensata Technologies... the trucks were loaded up last week and sent to Los Angeles for shipment to China... I filed a complaint with the Postmaster, and got back a form letter saying the carrier had rang the doorbell (didn't have one, and the front door was 25 feet further from the street than my mailbox)... And they've been gutting the public education system for at least two generations... dumbing classes down so that high school kids can't even make change unless the cash register tells them. And sometimes not even then. I had occasion to go to a Taco Bell roughly 20 years ago (one generation, more or less), and the girl behind the register couldn't figure out the correct change, because the tab had been something like $5.87, and I gave her $6.12... change should have been a quarter... I had to walk her through making the change. She had actually graduated from high school... and just missed being on the honor roll.
