At AC (comment dtd 15th February 2011 10:45 GMT) and TFW reply
AC, completely in agreement with TFW reply to your description of houshold practices at your place.
You 'got the wife' to give away her Apple player ! Great ! You must be a very convincing man,
how did you do this (I mean, just for the benefit of all of us) ?
How did she obtain such a devils tool in the first place ? You been away on business travel ?
Make sure that doesn't happen again, but, I guess you already took counter actions to prevent this. The good and caringg man you are.
Lastly, and not only on this occasion, to me you sometimes display a very patronizing kind of attitude towards co-contributors sharing their views to articles.
Give it a thought or two.
And, btw., since you already labeled other contributors as 'Idiot' feel free to repeat yourselves.
Best wishes anyway-
Bullshit
Your comment simply displays arrogance as its best.
Give $ 10 to a charity every week, be happy with it and save us from similar disclosures, if at all possible.
'Jones then assured them that "Google is not an invader of countries. We're a country." ' !
An inflated ego demonstrating the complete lack of cross cultural awareness!
Throw them out!
Sarah
how did this work out ? Did she- with both ? Proof ?
@ Toby Rose
absolutely the right questions.
Didn't we just have the swine flu 'pandemia', as so declared by the WHO who know is taking
some (very deserved) beating because of being too close (under the sheets) with large
pharmaceutical conglomerates....
Same here, same here. Develope a monster scenario, frighten the mass and the cash will flow.
It's called Marketing nowadays.
Good decision.
Spent that money instead for education and decent healthcare (for all). Take a some of it to
feed some think tanks to develop waterproof, workable strategies to deal with global crisis, there
will be more than a few hand full of those in the next years.
Which earth do we want to leave to the next generations, certainly one question deserving decent,
honest answers - and actions to make sure this continues to be a planet worth living on.
On a
global, WW scale, 8 789 123 units in the first twelve months after being available WW.
That's the number.
But, that Stig guy -
we perfectly can identify him based on his shoes!

proofs nothing less!
Can I
Bring ten fingers randomly collected after a hot night out?
@ Dave Murray
Dave, you've beaten me on the foreign finger!
Oh Sarah!
Love you for that!! Keep the guys at close quarters, there seem to be quite some spring in the air already. You're doing great here - get them where it hurts.
Sarah Bee,

Since this
has been developed by German scientists it, will work. As advertised. Or so.
Anything in Germany works. Sort of.
Aren't those Apple products just great!
The story confirms it all.
This is gonna be very intersting
to watch for more updates. Let's (just) assume GOOGLE did this in fact as an act of telling (China)
'That's as far as it goes', Human right stuff etc etc, they will bring their competitors into a role of either following or be seen as a (potential) taget for blame (from every human right watch organization), this move could be a very well thought out, clever marketing move . . .
Like - I'm the good one who cares, what about you (compettors)... ?
And, GOOGLE has so many legal issues at hand right now that a little deviation towards
human rights might just come handy in future talks about those legal battles coming up right now (eg with France, Germany, the EU).
Comments ?
as long as there are
People starving to death, to me this is an obscene offer.
Oh well
that Malayan official who stated
("We are not saying they cannot use Facebook or Twitter, but when using such facilities, they must upkeep the values taught by Islam, Buddhism or Christianity to maintain our culture,")
isn't too far off, in my book at least, here some insiders information on Facebook (at least it's being presented as such) :

Yes... @ AC, Posted Friday 15th January 2010 12:36 GMT
That makes two already.
Cheers!
@ Jai,
you said:
i would run for the hills, but that didn't save the dinosaurs did it?
--------
But it did indeed, at least some of them, you find quite a good hand full of their offspring in high level
management positions nowadays.
@ LuMan
proof of concept please.
@ AC, 10:29 GMT
10/10.
Cheers!
@ Sir Rancible Spoon, 15.25 GMT
Have a pint (and, language please).
@ GrandPaChris, 10.03 GMT
A big CHEERS to you for your refreshing comment. Coming from a WINDOWS environment (for almost all of my professional days) to my new (one year old) Apple Macbook, a heaven in possitive differences. Fully supportive to what you wrote, keep going.
Best wishes to all out there, may 2010 become the year you hope it to be.
Nuff said- Cheers!

'Intersates don't run through towns to my knowledge.'
Yo, they do, some of them at least - the I 75 straight into Dallas/ Texas as an example.
Merry Christmas to you all out there.
Not for me - none of them.
Agree with AC (along his lines anyway) , I want to hold a book in my hands, feel it, turn the pages, make notes, share it with others maybe, put it into one of my book shelves, look at this
wonderfully colored backs of the books . . . It's probably very old fashioned thinking, but, that's the way it is, for me at least.
How true, how true.
They have to be young, don't they?
@ AC, 19:18 GMT
wasn't that always a 'Him' ? Can't be a 'She', can it ??
Oh my God!
Enough.
@ Sarah Bee (your reply back to TeeCee)
I love it ! A case example of insight and deduction.
In absence of a more appropriate logo/ drink, the next one on me - Champagne that is.
Let's fill the guy (gal?) a pipe for better fuming.
Aaaahhhh
What a storm in the this (ElReg's) glass of water!
Be cool guys before you go over the fence, read the warranty statements (always assuming that at least one of you get access to such a devilish document), and, read the article carefully again,
Quote :
"I checked my Applecare warranty and it says nothing about not honoring warranties if the owner is a smoker."
Unquote
What happened here is that, for reasons unknown, an individual tried to play a silly game, easy to
detect though.
Fire the one who created the wrong impression on Apple's (excellent) product support so that
we all can go to Bed and sleep soundly, as deserved (for most of us anyway).
Writing this on an Apple Macbook and enjoying my new Poul Winlsow pipe (courtesy of the wife)
along with fine Virginia tobacco ... it's all relative you know.
So what ?
Sometimes it's time to learn the mechanics of how this all works together.
Assuming that 'iPod' is a registered Trademark - :-) - it's not (even) anywhere near rocket science to also assume that any product name coupled with it will have to be very, very carefully checked out by legal folks for appropriateness .
In case of doubt what I mean here, develope an app, say a spreadsheed, and
call it 'Like Microsoft - but better' and than wait for the hammer to hit you.
Kinda find it nice from Steve to reply, even the content I like. You know how it is, If you want to play with the big boys, you're better wide awake.
Writing this from an Apple Macbook & wishing you a lively discussion, enjoy.

What a BS discussion!
Sorry all BUT I FAIL TO SEE THE RELEVANCE OF THE WHOLE THING!
First, to fire someone because of writing emails in capital letters - are we now addressing and judging the value of a human being by such trivialities ? Is that it ?? Good one, lower case, bad one CAPS ON ? Who the f*ck has the right to fire somebody for such a nonsense!
She should have received much more in compensation then those few bucks.
And, unless I totally and completely misunderstand (and interprete) some of the comments already made here, above, I would suggest to some of you guys to reassess your positions and values.
Old Laws / New Laws
doesn't matter for the sake of understandig that behaviour as what it is, a crime.
Identity camouflage respectively identity theft.
Up to jail with her. Enough discussed.
Guys, I need your word of wisdom please
I've been converting from a MS Windows environment (MS Office/ Outlook etc) to Apple, using a very nice, powerful Macbook now. While I'm ok with freeware such as NeoOffice for the majority of my documents, spreadsheets etc, I'm looking for some SW enabling me to read my old Outlook created emails (*.pst files) - any advise ? Or, what about some SW translating those files into an, say Apple mail readable format.
Asking for your five cents, don't let me hange in there.
Thanks Guys (and Gals, one never knows).
:-)
Could it relate
to living on an island ? All that fog, sun- lacking climate ? Too much pints ? Not enough pints ?
Could it relate to the ladies ? Not attractive enough ? Too attractive (the 'werwolves syndrome' ) ?
Not enough Paris? Phantasies over realities ?
Look at the French, the Italians, even us Germans, no complains there or here.
How can we be of assistance ?
Smile Guys, it's just another nano second in the evolution, all forgotten soon.
It's been said before
but once more: He did it, showed creative intelligence to commit a crime, so, wtf, sue him.
The ony questions is where,in the US or the UK.
That's all.
I might have a name . . .
Sarah Bee @ Vulture Central
Nah ???
Backing AC
If you want to boycott, I agree with AC, let the OEM know that you do so, in plain language and let them know precisely why. Examples please.
Additionally, use the Internet (blogs ?) to let the world know (and don't forget to provide your real name along that line). Civil courage is not just a buzzword. Shouldn't be anyway.
Stand up and be counted!
Don't deflect from this tragedy by just saying 'can't do anythng, they're everywhere anyway',
go to their customers and tell them why you don't spent your pennies for their products!
Grow up.
To Sarah Bee
just imagine that glass filled with champagne, a toast to you & your comments - excellent.
Ship'm back,
those Brits, should sell their potatos in Kensington Gardens. Or, alternatively, move'm to France,
even better the more I think of it. Get them out, now!
That will not help them
at all, and that's very good so!
Word will get out (and into Iran), no matter what- oppression never made it in the long run.
.
@ Anonymous Coward (hmm)
I go along with that, good comment! But, the thought of Microsoft tackling Kindergarten scares
the heck out of me....
However, a healthy Cheers to you!
This deserves
some real good assesment from Ms Bee I suggest, all those 'manly' comments above should have some counterweight - keeping up the hope for a refreshing update on this ..
No chance
That guy in the States wears a black necklace, no chance I''ll ever fly to do something good to mankind, just the opposite of El Reg's vulture.
Let'm off the hook I'd say - mercy to those who don't know better.
Haaa, didn't I know just from the title which creativity this would release ...
Know what, let's agree on not overdoing it but, in homeopathic doses. It's like with all of the real good stuff, sometimes less is more.
Let's maintain the freedom though to call bullshit bullshit, whenever it comes along, in whatever form. Makes sense ?
Mixed feelings here ....
Since I don't know what exactly this guys spread around I find it difficult to be pro- or con the verdict,
being a German though I appreciate from our own, not too distant, history what words (leading to actions) can do. We all know that words can be a weapon in its own fashion, too many dumb'sters out threre with no (mental) ability to differentiate (but just follow)
Spreading hatress is an absolute NO WAY in my book.
And now, what ?
And not only in the UK, I'd assume..
As long as those guys (and gals) don't bother / don't care, no cure and no remedy.
Companies efforts on policies insisting on strong data encryption primarily on mobile devices are
only as good as being adhered to.
'Users' just switching off related apps on the machines they use ('The human factor in laptop encryption', June 29th nicely refers)...
That's a never ending story which will become way more important in the not too distant future where more and more business data as well as e-government stuff will be transacted (and stored) electronically.
Now what ?
Ahemm
Where there is a ball there is a way (old soccer proverb)....
