That some people will buy anything with the "right" name. Just give me a watch that tells the time - I know I'm : overweight, late for my appointment, missing a phone call, not on facebook, haven't run 5km, my heart rate is too high, "NNN" is trying to call me....... Geeze do I need my watch to tell me what I already know?

What sort of moronic statement is that? I haven't seen an Apple search engine, DSLR, ham radio transceiver, CNC machine, welder........ hell the list of what they don't do/make/produce is bigger than the list of what they do.

As a PDA they - IMHO - were the best, but now smartphones are the new PDA - basically because they do it all and more. I personally hope they can make something of this but actually doubt that the fanbois of various "cultures" will really get it.

I see cyber bullying as being a bit different to what I and others experienced at school 30+ years ago. The herd mentality - eg you're fat, ugly, black, smelly, spastic, etc etc - is not just in the schoolyard but is out there for your idiotic mates - and for that matter any fuckwit anywhere in the world - to copy , emulate and laugh at because nobody deletes it.
In the past it was deleted by the new day (which may have been as unpleasant as the day before) but now, yesterday is still there for the fuckwits of this world to see, laugh at and contribute to.
So yes, laws protecting people ( children) from social media bullies need to be there and need to be enforced. The trouble is no-one really knows what they should look like and who should enforce them.

But give us our trademark anyway to protect our business in oz from predators who would have us pay even less tax because we earn less if they use "app store" . Yes of course you pay a fee but I like the personal contact with the company and their agents. (I suspect that AustPost will not be quite so personal). No, I don't work for them - I'm a very happy customer who lives in the Sunshine State.

I'm an old film man - yes I admit to having a canon SLR back in the day (darkroom enlarger, stinky chemicals etc etc) , and have relatively recently returned to photography as a hobby and purchased a canon DSLR. I've quickly re-learned that the camera does not make the photographer.
But what I really like with digital - my passion is bird photography - is that I can take lots (read several hundred in a morning) and keep only a few because the others range from crap to not good enough to keep.

Sorry but ebay has lost the plot here in oz. I wanted to sell some furniture for my sister in law and posted it to ebay. in my description I said that it would be cash only on pickup - This was not good enough for flea-bay. No, they wanted an online alternative for purchasers, and cancelled my ad. Well Fuck you ebay and Fuck you paypal! If I want to sell furniture from my garage the people who come to buy will pay cash!
My students come to class telling me about the latest edition of GoT that they have downloaded. If I ask them why they don't buy it the answer is almost invariably because they can't, and won't be able to get it on DVD for another year.
So it seems bleeding obvious to me that if it was available in OZ at the same time as other places, there are people who would purchase it rather than downloading it "for free". Of course there will always be the freeloaders, but at least the producers would get some rather than no return.
Any media.company that is too thick to realise that a small sale is better than no sale gets what they deserve.

Why exactly would you want the various words for genitalia, gender orientation, sexual activity etc. engraved on your phone. Can your half witted religious nutter come up with any evidence :
a) for the existence of God other than "something must have made it"
b) for the theory of evolution to be false. Come on, it won't take much ... just a verified human footprint - or fossil - with dinosaur fossils for example.
c) that the earth is the only place in the universe where life exists. Admittedly we don't have any evidence that other life does exist, but as many above have stated, that is not proof that we are alone.
d) that God did it in a week.

Atheist nuttery is not that much different to religious nuttery, but with some things at least atheists have the preponderance of scientific evidence to support them, rather than the belief in book that has been translated and mis-translated so many times that it is likely to be nothing like the original(s).
If my memory serves me correctly there was a case of someone who lived under HT power lines who "harvested" the radiated field to power his house. A fairly simple technique of running wire around his property several times to create a transformer that gave him electricity at the right voltage. His argument was that it was "waste" energy, the energy company and the wigs decided that it wasn't, so he copped the consequences.
Mind you this would have been at least a couple of decades ago so my memory may indeed be faulty.
The last comment from my good wife when I bought a binary watch. Why would I do that? Well I love my maths and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Smart watch? No don't think so! My watch is on my wrist primarily for me to see what time it is. No I don't need to know who has "liked" me or my post, and I have never had an email that I must respond to immediately or the known universe will disappear. So hell no, I am not and will not ever be in the market for any smartwatch.
Yes the original was a masterpiece. It is, or at least was 2 years ago, possible to get the series on DVD from the BBC shop. Now it seems a bit dated but still an enjoyable series for those of us that liked it the first time around. No I didn't watch the movie version. In my experience most movie versions of good series are a steaming pile of crap in comparison
As far as I'm aware, and I'd be happy to be corrected, there has never been a virus that has affected macs. Trojans are quite another thing, and there have been a few of these.
Back on topic, I use Mackeeper. It has some nice features, and in my opinion is worth the money. I have read that one should beware of similar sounding names such as Mac Protector, Mac Security, Mac Guard, and Mac Shield.
To set the record straight I do not work for Zeobit or sell Mackeeper, and it has been rightly criticised for heavy handed marketing and "misleading advertising"

The article does not mention GW. It talks about OTHER heating factors that are affecting the glacier. So before you GW deniers say anything, RTFA. And, read beyond what is posted here at El Reg. Yes it's a good place to start, but there are plenty of sites that actually look at the data in a calm scientific way. Can science be wrong? Of course, that is one of the strengths of the Scientific Method.
My experience suggests that there is not the infrastructure to combat threats like this. Firstly it requires education, ie what do they look like?, what's the problem?, how do I catch them?, what do I do when I catch one? Secondly I requires political will, and enormous resources.
These two are hard enough here in Oz, but having been to Madagascar I believe they have even less chance of solving the problem. When every day is a battle for survival - in some of the places we visited, one meal a day was the norm - then it's unlikely that a toad invasion will be high on your list of priorities.
Madagascar has another feature not seen in Oz, and that is the area covered by rice paddies - read water = good breeding grounds for toads.
@bsquared. Yes indeed, crows do turn the toads upside down and disembowel them. It is quite a sight to see!
If you really want to help Madagascar, go there and spend your money. It is a stunningly beautiful country, and the Malagasy people are very friendly - just don't take photos of police/army buildings or people.
