Vote now for the WORST movie EVER

HHGTTG

Quite possibly IMHO the worst raping of a fantastic book series, radio series and TV series of all time, at the same time. Surely, evil as the others are, none of them bar this piece of shite come close to hitting all three good media respresentations in one 'fail' swoop?

To call this utter rubbish is extreme kindness. It's a perfect re-enactment of the gobbling of a dogs breakfast only to climax in the regurgitation of said breakfast, in slow motion (possibly HD or even 3D if we are unlucky) with sound and smello-vision.

Poor Douglas is probably still spinning away in the only place you can be sure of not being subjected to this travesty of a cash-in upon great material - he's the lucky one.

So Htich Hikers gets my vote because they messed up miserably by shitting with the story, the characters, the feeling, the point and the comedy of a series previously successful over three media types over many years.

It was SO intelligent that it thought "I'm soft bodied so I won't leave a fossil - I know, I'll arrange these post dinner bones into a montage of myself to prove I existed".

Presumably then it sat down wearing a few slippers smoking a pipe and read the pre-historic Sunday Sport.

Police your own fecking children when they are online or box it up and send it back to the shop.

I'd prefer it if people had to gain a license to use the internet.. most of Mumsnet and the gov'ment would be offline for talking rubbish.

Bliss.

Ok for companies with something to sell I guess, not good for some types of establishment (schools for one) where if, or more likely when, the net connection fails, the entire reason for existing ceases.

Basically, I wish they'd stop selling it as a solution for everyone because it really isn't.

Yea right

If anyone believes I'm going to trust *my* corporate usability on a UK internet connection can go fish.

The companies that run the infrastructure are pathetic in the UK and stability is NOT their watchword, it's profit.

Go fish suckers, I'll still be running when you have packetloss up to your ears.

Re:Evil birds from hell

I've noticed when shooting Magpies and Pigeons the same thing - the feathers seem to have some sort of deflection ability. The key I found out is to use sharps instead of flats - the pellets then go through no problem. The downside being you have to finish them off more often.

Everyone has views

I work in a school and we use rsync very successfully, employing 20 minute document changes across the entire 46TB of data and can go back as far as July 2009 currently. That includes all user shares and associated data, DC installs and other infrastructure and is all driven by our own scripts and purchasing decisions for the arrays - no business involvement and thus minimal costs.

The different arrays (3 of them currently) are housed in separate buildings across the site and we are also moving onto involving the other local schools to house a monthly copy of eachothers data.

This has been in place since April 2009 and when you take into account time, time to recover (seconds), the disks being relatively inexpensive and growth potential I think it outshines any tape based system completely. We used to use tapes but times have changed.

Apple lifts iPhone code ban (for chosen few)

Sort of

I've been using a 3GS now for nearly a year - had the chance to play with a HTC Desire for a couple of days and frankly I think I prefer the HTC. Although the 3GS is slick in its operation, for me the better experience was on the HTC ... so I'm jumping ship, partly because I'm fed up of being treated like a naughty child by Apple but also partly because the UI and better feature set on the HTC suits me perfectly.

$11m jackpot just a 'reset' message, says casino

Andy 4
FAIL

Misinformation

The jackpot was always probably $11M .. they didn't win the 'jackpot' .. they won a 'prize'.

The fact that it displays the next jackpot as $11M means the next winner will get that *if* they hit the jackpot... they could just as easily won $10.00 with say two liberty bells and a banana .. that's not a jackpot win.

Erm..

When a customer buys software they purchase a license to use it, they do not own it - they do own the physical media, but that doesn't translate to owning the 'copy' of the software. Software copyright laws are quite clear on this.

Sony on the other hand do own the software and dictate how it should be used - they don't own the media though so you can use it as a ninja star/circle or bird scarer/coffee mat.

It's a sad state of affairs when someone like this (they are all guilty in some way) get t o make laws without the appropriate knowledge of the technologies involved.

When did this country arrive at the point where unqualified people make decisions that affect the general population they are supposedly there to SERVE. If the transport minister cocks up, what do they do? .. they RE-SHUFFLE and with a wave of a wand, they are suddenly qualified to be the minister for education with no accountability for previous actions. This is not a democratic operation in the slightest.

It wouldn't be so bad except there is no way of challenging these people... no avenue of recourse... no change request available to the public. Voting one unqualified MP into office over another does not make a choice.

It's about time these people were not allowed to make decisions based on assumption, business back handers (a-la BSF for schools) and misinformation.

Apple's move to kill Hackintosher suit denied

Hmm

The distinction has to be made between hardware and software here. Locking an OS to hardware has to be viewed as monopalistic - the statement about 1992 era PC hardware is null and void...

If you apply the Apple methods to MS software then MS could programatically and legally deny people from installing its OS on VMs and Apple hardware ... how would that go down? .. you can bet a lot of law firms would get rich from MS coffers.

What if Intel decided Apple were not to use their CPUs? - would Apple complain or go back to Power PC and be pretty much useless in todays society?

Apple need to relax their nanny approach to their software and (L)earn from its position... they design great stuff but act like a spoilt child sometimes.
