BlackBerry Curve 8520

FAIL

No 3G and re: review scores

I think not having 3G in 2009 is rediculous really. I know there are plenty of phones without it, but somebody buying a Blackberry is usually somebody who would make good use of the extra speed. No Blackberry should come without it. Even if it is only £200.

If it had 3G i'd probably consider replacing my N95 8GB with it.

Re review scores, didn't the Blackberry Storm get 40%? Which proves scores below 60% are possible....unless i'm wrong and the Storm got 60%, in which case ignore this.

Sony embraces ePub for eBooks

Thumb Up

E-Ink?

E-Ink sounds pretty cool but I bet it's nothing like I imagine lol. I thik reading from an LCD screen would be annoying. I personally prefer paper books and don't intend to buy an e-reader.

The cheapest one is the borders one which is about £180, which is a fair price, but will obviously be an LCD version.

I wouldn't enjoy reading a book on my computer screen so I really don't think i'd enjoy reading a book on an e-reader with a much smaller display.

Once they come down in price, or if somebody who I know buys one, maybe I will be converted, but for £400+ for the ones which are aparently decent I will have to pass (for now)

The fact most older books (which are some of the best) can be picked up used for a few quid (Example Hardback version of Abarat by Clive Barker for £1.99 used). You really save a lot. I only read one book at a time personally (when reading for pleasure) so being able to Carry 100 books isn't really useful.

But the nay-sayers should consider the amount of shelf space you could save. To me that would be the biggest advantage. I'm personally a fan of digital content, when I know it should be available to me for a looooong time. (Example Half-Life 2, Counterstrike: Source etc on STEAM aren't going anywhere anytime soon)

If there we DRM free downloadable movies, or somewhere in the UK you could rent a movie by downloading it and watching on the TV via HDMI I would pay for that. You would obviously need some form of DRM for rentals.

Kinda went off the point a little, but think I made some okay points lol.

Nokia exec denies Symbian Maemo swap claim

November

Hopefully this is more clear by November when I am due a new phone. Naturally I will be getting a Nokia, but wouldn't be keen on buying another Symbian based smart phone if they are moving to Maemo in the future (Don't want them to drop support)

Still like the look of the N97, and their next flasgship phone is probably years away now.

Twitter sued for patent infringement

Grenade

blah

Could somebody please explain to me why Twitter could be sued for patent infringement here? It makes no sense, if it was this easy wouldn't people just patent the idea of the facebook wall or some other stupid social networking feature then sue anybody who tries to do the same?

Nikon unveils world's first projection camera

Daniel Harris 1

Pretty cool

That's a pretty cool feature, but suprised this hasn't already been done in the past. In Japan they have had them in mobile phones for a while...Most phones have a camera, but suppose this is just the first compact digital camera to have it.

Personally i'd rather spend the money on an entry level DSLR, no projector but superior pictures.

When these become a bit more common the price will fall quickly.

Europe won't pay more for Windows 7. Really!

@CareTaker "..or stop selling the 32bit version"

Because not everybody has a 64-bit processor...My parents use an Old 3.2ghz P4 system w/ 2GB Ram and an old GeForce 6600GT, currently running Win7 32-bit and it runs perfectly. They don't need anything newer as they literally use it for casual web browsing and sending emails...no need to upgrade to a newer system.

Win7 is better than XP though, so it's better to give people still using 32-bit HW the choice of running the latest (and best so far, imo) Windows available. If only 64-bit was available they would need to upgrade their PC if they wanted to buy Win7 when it is released and the beta expires.

Personally I will be going for the 64-bit version all the way!

Vodafone offers customers chance to pay for own infrastructure

Consumers?

I don't get how this helps consumers? If I am in my home why don't I just use my Wi-Fi connection rather than 3G network for data based transactions such as web browsing?

Is this just for people with poor coverage in their area? Which I hear is very common with Vodaphone compared to other network providers.

MySpace squeezes out two thirds of international staff

Charge for MySpace?

Aren't the majority of MySpace users in their teens, and therefore have little income to be spending on a social networking site when they could use Facebook for free?
