The iPhone does exactly the same thing Android does, the cache of locations is in ADDITION:

Fortunately you can just use Google Rainbow Tables

1. Go to http://www.miraclesalad.com/webtools/md5.php and generate a hash

2. Copy and paste your hash into Google Search

3. Open the first result.

Bonus. Was covered by the reg a while back too: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/11/21/google_md5_crack/

How about we make lobbying a crime

Government decisions should be informed by the views of companies but not on a whoever hires the most lawyers/PRs basis. I'd rather they fired all the lobbyists and instead each major firm had a single government representative available for consultation as and when we need their opinion on something.

Alternatives

I've been annoyed by touchscreen controls for ages now. I've tried the following:

bluetooth keyboard - cheap, nasty and bad for any kind of dpad game

Wii remote - awesome & free but not compatible with samsung (boo)

Zeemote - on order but looks pretty cheap

MSI BGP100 - looks great but nowhere seems to stock it any more

Game Gripper - doesn't look like it really addresses the problem

Stick on tactile buttons - maybe as a last resort

Anyone tried these alternatives or know of any others? I'd rather have the phone I want and carry a separate peripheral than compromise on quality.

moderate moderation

Bigot / Prude user reports picture

Overworked Facebook staff member glances at it for 1s and ticks ban

You have to moderate and it's impossible to for every pleb in your ranks to be 100% right 100% of the time. The important bit about this story is that the higher ups recognised the mistake and corrected it instead of spinning up the excuse machine as a certain other corporation has been known (or just refusing to acknowledge the appeal at all).

It's probably a pretty stressful job anyway staring at gratuitous pictures all day long and hitting the big red ban button. Probably beats working fast food though.

Reality of Costs

I'm a little confused here, surely giving £12 billion to UK citizens working at BAE systems is better than giving £6 billion to America because the UK workers will spend the £12 billion on council tax, VAT, income tax etc etc.

Isn't money flowing around in the UK economy better than money sent to America and a bunch of new unemployment benefits to pay. Even if we get a crappy plane that only does an average job.

Maybe an economist can enlighten me.

Funding Proposal

Smashing Stars

Abstract:

Since my previous proposal to generate an artifical blackhole and neutron star in the parking lot of our laboratory was rejected due to lack of ethical approval and nonspecific safetly concerns, I am now proposing to write a computer simulation in which we can bash various celestial objects into one another to see what happens.

The main research outcomes of this proposal will be:

1. preventing me from further endangering humanity with my real world mad science aspirations

2. creating lots of pretty graphics which will increase public engagement in physics and can be sold for use in Avatar 2

3. evidence to support an action plan for our planet should such a celestial collision occur nearby ( e.g. pray, become extinct, develop teleportation etc)

Mobiles really do fry your brains: JAMA

Thomas 18

not really

I'd rather a bunch of physicists and medical professionals worked it out than trying to do statistical analysis using 2 different participant groups in separate continents as you seem to be doing.

The UK and America are vastly different in all respects from medical care, diet, exercise, unemployment, industry, even life expectancy is different. Looking for a small effect size in such messy data is impossible.

Ill leave it to the physicists to decide on the course of action, I'm just happy they are researching it.

Thomas 18

Statistics?

"cases of cancer have not increased at anywhere near the same level"

The argument I think is that many things cause brain cancer and phones may be one of them in which case 100 times more phones might mean only mean 1% more cases of cancer. Looking at number of cases of cancer across the board is pretty worthless given the pace of society (people living longer, changing diets , levels of global pollution etc etc)

If having a mobile phone increases your risk of certain types of cancer by even a tiny amount then manufacturers would have a responsibility to change how they are manufactured (shielding the ear side of the antenna or something)

Thomas 18

It might inspire manufacturers to adjust the assembly process to put in some shielding or adjust signal power/frequency.

Charlie Sheen explodes onto Twitter

Thomas 18

Your worth as an actor

Is entirely dependent on how much your product brings in. You deserve a share of the profits equivalent to your contribution to the product's success. If a show makes a fortune (which I'm assuming this show does) then Sheen deserves his cut.

Demanding millions of dollars is fine for a half hour show if the producers and station is getting millions more for doing sod all.

Microsoft disputes Apple's 'App Store' trademark

Thomas 18
FAIL

Fail

Theres software called:

Lotus

Excell

Opera

Snow Leopard

Pidgin

etc etc etc

All these are generic words but they are trademarks because they are completely out of context of the original word. A trademark covers you for your domain only. You can't make a webbrowser called Opera or an OS called Windows but you can write an Opera called The Opera.

App Store in its original context is a store where you buy applications (any applications for any platform). It is not innovative at all. Just like Microsoft couldn't have called Windows "Operating System" and prevented reuse of the phrase.

Java for GUI stuff

bunch of web authoring (sadly no php)

C++ OpenGL stuff

Networking (looking at data packets structure, parity etc)

Computer architecture (registers, caches, busses, ques etc)

I found no difficulty picking up C# during my 3rd year placement and using it in my honours project (along with php) and even iOS programming wasn't too difficult to learn.

Lots of courses offer a final year project and students can generally use this as an opportunity to pick up a language they haven't been taught.
