AI's most convincing conversations are not what they seem

Zombies

Excellent article. That's always been my view. However, recently I've come to another. I've heard a number of commentators dismiss LaMDA as merely a "predictive text" machine. I.e. it just works out which word or words go best following those already placed. But, I'm starting to wonder whether that's all that the vast majority of the human race does. Seriously, next time you have a conversation down the pub, imagine a transcript of what you're hearing with all the non verbal bits stripped out and ask yourself whether sentience was really required to generate that.

There are zombies everywhere!

"To think Emmeline and Germaine died for this"

Unfortunately, Germaine is still alive.

I assume you meant "Greer"....
