Re: Not sure I'll bother

There is no way that 3. will make it think you are watching. If sensibly programmed it will cause a fall-back to 1. but its not really a separate option. My preference is 4.

4. Place toy with eyes in front of sensor. I'm thinking maybe a small troll doll.

I'm guessing the sensor must be the forward facing camera so this may not be practical but will be amusing. Alternatively:

5. wear a hat/top with a picture of a forward facing face on it.

Big Brother because he'd probably work.

Re: One question I have always asked myself

Re: Cooling

I think this could actually be a problem - as you (and everyone else) point out the net TEMPERATURE effect is zero, but local cooling/heating are likely to have large effects on the weather. If we assume the turbines are largely located where people are not (and obviously people's use is where they are) we could get some large temperature differentials.

Rule of thumb: It's a mistake to sum across the whole planet when making a prediction that affects anything on the planet. We all know how bad weather forecasts can be despite the fact they use points in the range of a mile apart. This is on the order of 196,912,101 times less accurate.

Not to mention the possible effects on wildlife / crops etc. of the local temperature changes.

Re: Soo

The reason it hasn't worked so far could be as simple as we're cutting down all the new growth. It doesn't matter if the plants are growing faster and collecting all the carbon if we cut them all down and liberate it again.

I also don't think that he's hoping that. His point is that previous studies have suggested that increased CO2 levels have no effect on plant growth, but they are probably wrong (or at least too generalised). This means that raised CO2 levels may be (slightly) beneficial. It may mean that further increase in CO2 levels could be stopped/reduced if we devoted large areas to tree growth but they would probably have to be very large areas in poor countries who we might have difficulty persuading not to cut the trees down for firewood.

Re: Manslaughter/murder

It should also be noted that prior intent (while a modifying factor when someone is killed) is not always considered e.g. statutory rape - "I though she was over [insert local age limit]!". But perhaps this is getting OT.

I agree that this isn't factually different from what TPB were doing and Google probably cared about as much about infringement as TPB did (i.e. not at all), judging by the recent android case. The difference is that Google lie ("Do no evil") and TPB are blatant about it.

WTF?

Did you actually play Arkham City?

The sentence "The Joker's relegation to cameo appearance deprived the narrative of its most memorable antagonist" forces me to ask did you actually play the game? A cameo is a brief appearance. The Joker was one of the main antagonists of the game (arguably the main if you count time spent interacting with him).

Reading version

There's a copy in Reading Museum. I don't know how long it took them to make but they censored it as they went along, putting clothes on the naked men.

Streeting never went to lectures

As an Historian he never actually went to any lectures despite the fact the History faculty was approximately 30 seconds from our college. If he had he might know that Cambridge actually has the largest lecture theatre in the country so even in the elite they believe in packing them in.

It's three stories high and all the lecturers have to use microphones so you can hear them.
