Google open sources flash-happy Chrome OS

dual booting netbooks?

One would guess that the netbooks coming up will most likely be dual boot ones with Google's Chrome OS for fast booting and safe websurfing (with no local storage beyond caching, presumably in RAM not much chance of being infected) and win 7 for the times you need more than a browser.

Palm Pre evicted from iTunes (yet again)

Surely...

All Palm Pre owners have to do is not update iTunes?

Same could be said for crack dealers!

Palm Pre re-re-introduces iTunes synchronization

Paul E

Its only a constant unwinable battle..

If pre users keep on upgrading itunes.

If the current version does what they want, including syncing with their pre, then why should they upgrade to 9.whatever when they know it will only add one or two pointless new features but will block the use of their pre?

Apple tablet will 'redefine print,' says rumor mill

FAIL

unless

it has an e-ink display then its not likely to be much good as a book replacement is it? I thought the idea was that reading a lcd type display was a strain on the eyes which is where the e-ink systems win?

Apple iPod Touch 3G

Paul E

I'm with the 'whot no buttons' crowd

Apple need to realise there is a big difference between a device that plays music and can play the occasional interesting games and a dedicated games handheld. Given the choice between a DS or PSP for gaming against the touch I would choose the former everytime.

Ads body cuts off Skype ad after pic quality complaints

Paul E

All ad's show things in best light, ISP no different.

No point in complaining about the speed in ISP adds as then you could start saying things like...

"Why is it always sunny in holiday ad's when we know if often rains?"

or

"Why are there never any long queues in supermarket ad's?"

etc, etc...

Every advert shows the product being advertised in its best possible light. People appear to accept this for just about everything else so I don't see why ISP ad's should be any different.

Otto von Guericke's Magdeburg hemispheres?

How about using a (suitably scaled down) set of these?

Just put the weight of the plane on the end of one, put it in your chamber and fine tune the vacuum level you would need between them to get separation?

Thumb Up

Usefulness of the 'chin'

Having dropped my new Hero in the pavement over the weekend I can confirm that the chin is very good at stopping the screen hitting flush onto concrete.

Sky switches on 3D TV channel in 2010

Paul E

Strange coincidence

That they announce this the same day that Virgin Media start adding some more HD channels?

Anyway given what they can broadcast in 3D you will get:

Sport

A few 3D films.

Until there is more significant prerecorded 3D content that will be it for quite a while. You can get TV companies to record things in HD because its a replacement camera and they can downgrade to SD when needed. How many content providers will feel the need to go to 3D HD camera with all the related production problems? I would guess not many till there is a large enough market.

Police decline to reopen mobile phone hacking case

Paul E

As pointed out by the guardian..

The police where doing the politician thing of answering a different question to what was asked.

The question asked was:

Was the wholesale 'hacking' of phones being done by many journalists at NOTW affecting 1000's of people.

The answer from the Met went out of its way to only mention the two people charged. Even then we have the strange situation of the NOTW royal correspondent on one hand being tagged as 'the only bad penny' while the police admit that the PI hacked celebs, politicians and sports people. Now unless he was moonlighting on the side in other parts of NOTW why did he request those hacks and if he did not who did?
