my brain hurts but...

you could use 3 balloon/truss T formation and a launch tube for vulture 2 so it clears the balloons.

you could add some complicated pulley system to keep things upright to compensate for imbalanced lift

Use iBooks Author, only Apple can ever publish the result

About as evil as your standard publisher

it's no less evil than the standard publishing cartels T&C's

having a quick look at some of the terms, you submit a paper to a journal, if they decide to publish it they now own it and will use it for evil.

apple are only doing what's standard practice for publishers, ripping off the general public, academia (libraries, universities and students) and making big piles of cash

but what about...

all the lovely data your cellco stores (and will give to the fuzz when asked)

yep, the start and end cell sites for every call, text and data session logged, indexed and kept for ~2 years (plus who you called etc)

just be thankful logging HLR data is too expensive/a right pain in the arse to do

your mobileco having tracking data for phones that are on and not just when calls happen and having to keep it fox x years to comply with data retention laws

mines the one with the turned off phone in the pocket

"just read me whats on the screen"

another 'user' i had back in the dark days, calls saying his "internets broken"

as i go through the normal stupid questions (pc or mac, windows 3.1/95/98/nt, installed dialup networking blah blah blah) the user is flumuxed by all of the questions so we try the old faithful "right click on my computer and read what it says on the screen"

time passes (slowly)

"i cant right click"

"ok, your clicking the other mouse button?"

"im clickin on the right side of the mouse"

"ohhhkay, what colour is the pointy arrow thing?"

"ohh, its black"

"ok, so you have a dirty mac, i'll ring you back (maybe)"

im not saying anything... but i never found out what they where trying to click on

its Luser with a silent L

Of the many stories I've told the therapist:

whilst earning my stripes doing ISP support back in ’99 (dialup rocks) I had a rather grumpy customer phone up moaning that the internet was broken (the “im going to cancel, your crap, im off to freeserv” rants) after a few mins of calming down the punter, they start moaning “this is costing me a fortune in support calls, im on my mobile” and a quick check of the notes and this one has 2 phone lines, the follow up question was “are your phones working?” “no? best phone BT and order some more dialtone”

lazy developers

real developers make sites work in the crappest of browsers

even i have a vm image of xp/ie6 to make stuff work propperly for the poor saps who have to use ie6 due to company policy

*grumble* sites that say "works best in browserX" are as bad as flash only sites *grumble*

to paraphrase asr

"this comment is best viewed with Netscape 4.7 for UNIX/X on a 1280x1024 resolution with 24-bit color depth, maximum contrast, minimum brightness, in a 1000x960 window placed in the exact center of your display with this window manager configuration

with a colour temperature of 9300K using barco phosphors and connected to an AGP Matrox G200 via 5 individual RG179B/U coax cables with a contact resistance less than 0.1 mOhm..."

Owen Smith
Boffin

why not?

this is an evil isp isnt it?

why dont they just put the spamvertNXDOMAIN error on there proxy?

it would piss less people off by not borking the standards for us real people, and the great unwashed get friendly "you are idiot, click here for what we want you to look at" pages when they typo www.goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolge.mco (or whatever)

now if you will excuse me, i have a coldfusion server to debug with a lump hammer
