Hasn't this been done before?
I'm sure those two geeks did it in Weird Science and printed Kelly LeBrock!

..they could be keeping the price artificially high so that they can *ahem* lower it when Sony release the NGP this winter. This probably also explains why the release games aren't the big guns we'd hoped for: "Hey look! The 3DS is now £30 cheaper and Mario Kart, Lylat Wars and Super-Super Mario 3D Extreme Makeover are also released!!"
Hmm...
London Underground is older than the Bible* so all additions are extensively retro-fitted. Other countries (and cities), such as Germany (and Newcastle) have more modern affairs that were built with a bit of expansion-planning in mind.
Mind you - tech is so small nowadays it surely can't take up THAT much room!
*Nearly..
OK, I'm not much of an audiophile, but I like a nice sound and don't mind paying for it. Still, £180 seems a bit steep. Are they REALLY that good, or is it the fact that it's relatively new tech?
I like the idea that you can stream from pretty much anything with bluetooth. If you have a party then folk can bring their playlists on their mobiles for a bit of variety.
Paris, 'cos I can't think of an icon.
So now I can receive a text telling me that the they've spoken to the person on the video footage I provided, who was brazenly putting my mountain bike in the boot of his car, and they are 'satisfied' with his explanation, instead of me having to wait 12 weeks to receive a letter.
While I can see the benefit of the system as a whole, I can't help feeling the money would be better spent actually making communities safer........
Perhaps it's just me <sigh>
ps - 11 months on - still no mountainbike!
Not quite. Check the link: http://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/p01_uk_copyright_law and look at Section 8 (Acts that are allowed), Bullet 8. It states: 'Producing a back up copy for personal use of a computer program.' Software falls under the 'Literary' Type Of Work, therefore it appears you can make a copy of a piece of [computer] software for personal use.
TBH this makes sense. Despite the fact that nowadays media is a little more robust that floppy disks of old, when shelling out 40-odd quid for a game I'd like to be able to use a copy and not the original. Particularly when the only tangible thing I've got is a tiny bit of plastic about the size of a postage stamp!
OK, let's look at it another way:
-Found the card, but didn't go straight to the Police. Instead he:
- Put it in his wallet, next to his own credit cards
- Didn't even recognise it when he took it out to pay
- Didn't think to hand it in to the pizza parlour saying 'Hey, I just found this card outside'
- Didn't get challenged by pizza staff when noticing the signatures are different*
Hmm... This man is not unintelligent. He's had to pass a number of difficult exams to practice as a dentist and be good enough to be worth over $3m. I can't believe he'd be that absent-minded. Assuming he did visit a pizza shop, as opposed to calling in from home or his mobile, he'd still be aware that the card number he was reading out would be unfamiliar - I'm not clever enough to be a dentist, but I have an idea of what my card details are to a degree. And, if I had $250 cash on me, I'd not pay credit card charges for a $40 pizza.
Nope, I think this bloke knew what he was doing and it's just plain wrong!
*I admit a lot of counter staff may not care what the signature is, but it seems unfair to blame them in this case.
That's probably the most centered and sensible comment I've read so far relating to Apple vs NotApple. Normally we see a lot of 'fool-money-parted' type responses, but I reckon you've hit it on the head. As an analogy my Honda costs less than my boss' Jag, but if she dared to tell me that I only bought it because I couldn't afford a 'decent' car like hers I'd probably lose my job for smacking her! Likewise, I wouldn't call her stupid for buying a posh car. Horses for courses.
I recently got an Orange San Francisco instead of a Desire, Galaxy S or even iPhone 'cos it was cheaper and still does what I want. Even my iPhone-owning chums think it's a nice phone.
Let's spread a little love, dudes!
Well, perhaps. If enough people say so. But they're wrong. Jedi was never a religion. It was an order, like the Samurai - the actual inspiration for the Jedi Knights - who's faith system is actually Buddhist or Zen (predominantly).
Having said that, Christianity (and other faiths) seems to be based on fictitious characters performing all manner of bizarre actions and taking advice from talking bushes of fire, so believing in a faith that allows you to choke people at a distance or raise downed X-Wing Fighters from swamps isn't too far off the mark!
Right, as taken from Roger's Profanisaurus, I'm off for a Jedi right now!
FIFA have been dead-set against this since day 1. I can't see them tripping over themselves to make it easy for the tech to make a presence.
Mind you, if they DID allow goal-line technology, they wouldn't be able to 'persuade' refs to 'not see' certain goals during major tournaments......
Blimey, you hate the idea THAT much. Well, each to their own, I suppose.
How about this; my pal suffers from tinnitus but loves concerts. Getting the right balance between ear protection and listen-ability* at a concert is a nightmare for him (I suppose other folk with hearing problems can relate to this). If he can plug in his (somewhat expensive) headphones and hear a clearer sound while protecting his ears from the ambient noise I reckon he'll be chuffed as a chav in a Burberry shop!
Who knows, perhaps such things could be used to provide real-time translations at multi-national events or suchlike.
*yep, made up word, but you know what I mean.
So, technically, an unsecure knee could be hacked?? Imagine the pandemonium that would cause!! Actually, I could connect it to my old Amiga and use it as a kickstart rom :)
On a serious note, a couple of my running pals are amputees, so it's a thumbs up from me (and a pint for the developers).
No. At least not entirely.
(I can see flames and downvotes coming, but here goes)
When you buy a car the manufacturer of the car has very little need for you any more. They may want you to buy add-ons, servicing, extras and those little bobbles that you put on the aerial so you can find it again in a crowded car park, but that's about it. In fact, most add-ons and servicing can be got cheaper from other manufacturers who sell 3rd party equivalents. When you buy a games console, you pay relatively little for something because the manufacturer knows that you will most likely be spending lots of money on software. Printers are also a good example of this; cheap printer - expensive inks.
Now, if BP made a car that runs ONLY on BP fuel and you found a way of using another brand of fuel (unlikely, but stay with it), you can guarantee that you'd either (i)lose your warranty or insurance, or (ii)find that ability strangely missing when your car goes for a service and they stick that computer lead into the engine.
Sony, in real terms, are only safeguarding their future income. Perhaps if they were more honest about their motivations they'd get better press. But jailbreaking leads to piracy. We all know it does. Even those who want to run Linux for legitimate reasons. If there was any way Sony could profit from OtherOS it would still be an option.
FWIW I don't much care for running OtherOS. I use it as a games console and as a media/on-demand player. If the console goes under because a group of people keep crying about something they can't use it for any more, we'll be left with one less option. And that will result in even more shit games from a vendor with little competition.
So, Microsoft are a bunch of arrogant, smelly, queue-jumping, onion-selling, hooped-jumper-and-beret-wearing, bicycle-riding, wine-swilling, shoulder-hunching sex maniacs?
Based on that I'm upgrading to Windows 7!!
Mine's the one with Clarkson's Guide To Provence in the pocket....
Hmm.. He claims having the 2.2 has scuppered his chance of getting a job. Is this 'any' job, or just the job he wants (probably low-impact, high-pay... well, don't we all). Quick office straw-poll.... We've got half a degree* here in my office and we're all on pretty good money**.
Perhaps what he needs (other than a massive laughing at) is a bit of reality and common sense. It would seem the only degree he has is one of stupidity!
*There's three of us in at the mo and one of us did a couple of years at uni and ended up with a certificate!
**Good compared to minimum wage....
I wouldn't particularly call myself a fanboi, but I do like Apple products. However, when you read past stories about their suppliers' and agents' working conditions you can't help feel a little disappointed. So, when a story like this appears I'm gonna trust the author and try to regain some faith in humanity (even from Apple!).
As has been mentioned before - if it improves lives and reduces death and injury, I say keep it up.
Looks like I've upset you (perhaps I didn't need the flame icon after all). In fairness, just naming amanfrommars proves you know exactly what you're talking about. After all, us commentards are just 'hur-de-hur asswipes' who really should know better than to dare to not agree with you. Still, the number of up- and down-votes you got really puts me in my place....
Shame you think that comments not describing your trend are all meaningless. I actually spotted at least one that agrees with you (sort of). You probably missed it. Still, it must be quite small and hard to see from your viewpoint up there on that moral pedestal you built yourself.
As for my point - doesn't matter. Certainly not to you, anyway. I'll carry on whining - at least one of us is having fun!
Particularly in relation to your comments at 14:28:
For someone who has so much to say on this matter (4 comments so far) you evidently have NO idea about the commentards! Go and read the comments in other stories. Read them from w-a-y back when and also the more regular ones. Then come back and tell us what you've learned.
Or, better still, just don't.
Looking at the photo on the Sun website I'm not surprised the lad's traumatised. His folks have splashed out on a Wii and an Xbox 360 and force the poor little mite to play them through a crappy CRT tele that's not even widescreen!
They should be bloody well locked up, the heartless bastards!
...or not. The service must have to rely on a pretty good connection to keep pumping content down your phoneline - mobile or otherwise. With mobiles becoming more and more powerful do we really need this, or do we prefer downloading the complete content and playing it safe in the knowledge that all the data is where we want it (i.e. in the actual device)? Hmmm.....
"Any person who vitiates the atmosphere in any place so as to make it noxious to the public to the health of persons in general dwelling or carrying on business in the neighbourhood or passing along a public way shall be guilty of a misdemeanour."
So, by that rationale, body odor, bad breath, smelly feet and Lynx deodorant are also outlawed??
"will pair the physics-based gameplay of the original game with unique twists based on the highly-anticipated film."
Highly-anticipated? I mean, I love the game; it's great. Got it on my PSP too. But I can't say that I'm chomping at the bit to see the film.
Is it just me??
Paris - 'cos she's an angry bird (sometimes)
You can already download minis from the PSN and shove them onto your PSP, as well as having them available on your PS3. Plus you can play some media (including games) using your PSP as a portal to your PS3 via the internet (the only stuff I can't get this to work with is, understandably, HD content).
Perhaps an elementary understanding of comprehension would've help you and the reply to my original post....
I didn't actually say the police had fined him. I blamed the police for taking action in the first place. Could they not have told him to push the bloody thing home? Nope, they HAD to take action (he could be a terrorist, after all). <sigh>
£340???? I see adults and teens alike riding big, heavy mountain-bike-style pushbikes on footpaths all the time - even outside the friggin' Police Station and they don't get fined. Chances are that they'd do a damn sight more damage if they hit someone, too.
So he was in the wrong. Fine him £30 and ban him from the Seg for a month, but don't take the equivalent of a week's wages from an unemployed man for Christ's sake!
This is yet another example of the Police making a poor decision because they can and further alienating themselves from society while continually reducing the publics' faith in them. F*cking sickening!
I sort of agree with the sentiment that the PSP Go pisses off the SPS users who have a healthy back catalogue of games (and movies) on UMD. I've got a PSP and a rack load of UMDs and I can't see why I'd go for a PSP Go and dump my 'normal' PSP.
But, what if I could use my PS3 as a portal? Plug the old PSP into the PS3 (via USB, natch) and blip the UMD data across to create 'PSP Go' files for my 'Go, attached on another USB. I'm sure the boffins at Sony could rig something to ensure that I don't install a UMD more than once onto a 'Go using this method (they did it with MiniDisc, after all). Not only do I get a back up of my media, I also get to play it on a 'Go (or a new Sony Mobile!!!).
