The telcos are ripoffs
They tried to charge me $350 for going 170MB over my mobile internet limit. I was lucky enough to talk them down to $50 after several sessions with their customer service.
Also there are some good plans available: 120GB for $60, but they leave customers on ancient plans without telling (or upgrading) them of newer ones. So often people are paying $60 for 500MB a month.
Lots of fail
By itself you won't know which country the server is in and will end up at the mercy of crooks. Otherwise who will be policing the approvals? Will government agency x in country x be deciding what is moral and what isn't?
I think porn is going to be the first thing booted off the net thanks to the NWO.
It's like the car Homer Simpson designed
It had a bit of everything, but a large price tag and nobody liked it except Homer. It's the same sub-par Windows only it takes up 10GB (bad if you have a small SSD) and it's hard to delete the default applications to use better ones. The only visible improvement is the ton of drivers they added to the install disc.
The OS I want is a tiny Linux install with several VMs to run any program ever released. Including the occasional Commodore 64 game.
Check Dave Chapelle skit
In the skit the crack dealer is treated as a wealthy white collar criminal and the embezzler is treated as a crack dealer would be. In the reversed roles the crack dealer gets off with only a fake apology.
Still the thin edge of the wedge
I do want to see such crimes and all crimes prevented or at least a 100% conviction rate. However this will be a 'told you so' moment one day in the future when people are dobbing in their neighbours for criticising the governement in a chat room.
Needlessly complex
Can anyone explain how you could do 90% of the stuff you do nowadays on an operating system that took up 5MB (a bit more if you include browser, media player and expansion card drivers)?
I tried Kubuntu -really nice-, but to change some basic options you need to type in 10 lines of text.
Another alternative is AROS (a free modern x86 Amiga OS) still needs work though.
If MS want to sell me another copy of Windows they should go back to square one and write a lean streamlined OS for 'home' users. What they do for other users doesn't concern me
Not a pervert
I think they are intend to prove that porn does not fuel devious behaviour and cause relationships to end.
At first I would have said "another waste of money," but if they come up with a good study it might be ok.
Windows
Windows. I don't hate Windows, but when something like this happens you should switch.
Tainted food
Never heard of it? I'm very careful about the places I get food from because of a spate of suspect food. It is usually teen fast food workers you have to be careful of. Make sure you can see them preparing your food.
e.g. I have had a pubic hair on a soft drink can, also a toenail in a chicken burger.
@Amaross Danan
Although clueless they may have a family member that advises them what to buy. Even the clueless end of the market will be picking up bargain bin 120GB external drives.
The only answer is temporary saturation. People will be waiting for the next upgrade level... which may be SSDs if mechanical HDDs don't get any faster.
I'm gonna call, slow decline to a niche product for mechanical HDDs.
Going back to BBSes
You don't have the government or google tracking everything you do.
Near my old house Telstra has underground cables in pipes with service hatches. Easy to service and I remember them upgrading to fibre with out destroying anything.
At my new house the footpaths have been dug up and re-layed twice to upgrade the electricity. No-one thought it might handy to lay serviceable pipes.
What I hear from the NBN construction is that they are digging up peoples driveways and frontyards and leaving a mess. It will be a eyesore for decades whereever the NBN goes in. If ever someone digs through the cable they will have to dig up half the street to fix it.
It's just technology
Facebook is just modern tech becoming part of socialising. Calling Facebook users shallow and non FB users saddos is about the same as kids jostling for the alpha position of the group or separating into opposing groups.
I hook up with people in hobby/interests related context that way you have plenty to talk about.
I think the problem is us oldies seeing younger generations flipping off the old ways and only adopting something new and current. Fad based.
I wouldn't worry, the internet is becoming so commercialised that it will be no fun anymore, just a place to do online shopping and send emails.
An Antenna
Wouldn't a tinfoil hat act as an antenna and therefore attract waves to your head, instead of repelling them? What you would need is a connection to ground, or or a more sophisticated and very expensive magnetic insulator.
Drunks and speeders..
Drunk and speeding drivers who kill people get less time than that. One rule for us and one rule for them, nuff said.
The threat of communism...
No that we don't live under the threat of communism, the government is free to become as communist like as it wants. I guess we didn't win the cold war.
Linux plus wine plus...
Virtualbox plus dosbox,
you've got all your Windows Apps and games back. Give it a try if you're sick of forking out money for OS upgrades.
How about...
How about a campaign to throw black paint on the PM in a effort to censor her, or her car or all the labour party offices. The opposition haven't made any official commitment on a filter with some members opposing it in favour of free net nanny software.
The fearmongering
So what if temperatures do go up one or two of degrees over a hundred or more years. It is likely that absolutely nothing will happen. The seas won't boil, the plants won't all wilt and die, people won't start wars over the now sweltering temperature.
All the crazies now get their viewpoint heard and wrapped up with global warming, really future global warming, because it isn't hotter yet. It is still going up and down with sun cycles, volcanic activity and La nina etc. Try and remember the seasonal weather when you were a kid.
Lost is attention on real issues that man is damaging the planet with overfishing, overconsuming, laziness (like taking the obsession with the car) and finally overpopulating.
Cool people get scorched
People think they look cool with a laptop on their lap, reclining on the sofa. I put mine on the coffee table for tv watching or on a desk for optimum comfort.
Read the OH&S card that comes with your PC, don't stuff your spine up.
Free Market
Nothing epitomizes the free market more than some manager changing companies every 6 months while the people who did the real work get nothing.
Shouldn't the government be doing real work too, by untangling the GFC?
Nah it's vegetarians
Do the planet a favour and eats some meat. It takes longer to digest and somehow neutralises the decomposing vegies.
Just gotta add
Okay so it was probably corroded battery bay contacts, too many coffee spills over it's life. I think people need a one day course on common sense: Coffee + electronics = bad. Redhot battery = turn it off and get it serviced.
Cheap computers
I had a go of a netbook and I'm not impressed. It was too small to do anything except casual web browsing. It was a Sony but had a pretty poor glossy screen.
What is up with the poor quality screens? the non-widescreens were flicker free before the change.
I'm going to find a mini 9 to have a look at, it's more compact size might excuse the cheapness of it.
Check ebay for Netbooks
Heaps of netbooks on ebay.
Netbooks are so cheap that your usual store doesn't want to bother with them, not enough profit.
If you trust ebay get one from there.
I'm waiting for an Nvidia ion system with long battery life, that will be an awesome rig.
Gift cards are lame
Put in the extra effort and write them a cheque. You can always ask what they bought with it afterwards.
In this day and age spoofing gift cards does seem pretty likely to happen.
It gives me a warm feeling...
to know that farmer John who lives 300klm (200miles) from the nearest town, is going to be getting 300 klm of expensive fibre courtesy of the taxpayer for 1 house. If Libs /Nats can link the major cities and pressure the comm companies to put up 3G or better for 7Billion... I say go with that. That way Farmer John can earn money by letting them put the 3G tower on his property.
Here you go from my ISP
Prohibited activities include (but are not limited to):
(a) posting, disseminating, or in some cases accessing, content which is unlawful, including:
(i) content that is or would be classified by the Classification Board as RC rated or X rated and that is or would be classified by the Classification Board as R rated where a restricted access system is not in place,
Does restricted access system mean national internet filter?
Salute Joe hockey...
for sticking to his guns. On a show called Q&A one of the lady pollies for the government inferred he supported child pornography by opposing the filter.
Seriously, get tough, but not by censoring the internet.
Good for game playthoughs
I love watching the video game playthroughs. It's amazing how you can finish some those arcade games in a couple of minutes that use to take me a month or more to finish.
I also look forward to more Downfall parodies.
Red storm rising
Blame political correctness. Pollies are so concerned with not offending anyone they lose all human qualities. They are mostly interested in looking good among other nations or whatever special interest group that they can swap favours with.
As for the original video I haven't seen it, but if it hasn't anything to do with No.2s then I would be happy to see every copy erased.
Cameras in every home
He would be one of the ones that would like to put cameras in every home to prevent child abuse. Why don't they just trace the IP address of the person visiting the site?
Be pro technology and think up new ways to track them as opposed to proposing bans. Heck why doesn't he just ban the internet, that will do the trick as well.
Market it
USB gets marketing. People know they can plug in anything USB and it will work. Bluetooth takes a bit of configuring, people are apprehensive they might wreck something so don't bother with it. A couple of funky commercials would get them interested enough to see what they can do with it.
Try AROS
If you want Amiga on an x86 box download AROS and try it out. Otherwise there are two Amiga classic replacements: The FPGAArcade and the Natami in the works. Google them for more info.
Now watch a German...
Now watch a German... Drive across europe in a Panzer. Oh they already did that...
Upgrade to Ubuntu
I hope a lot of people just change to Linux and run XP in a virtual machine. You've got the web and movies and music on Linux and all your Pre Vista PC games running in an XP virtual machine. Nuts to Microsoft.
A refund for faulty goods?
So do you get a refund if she was telling lies because Daddy wouldn't be happy about it? But surely rich people are not short of virgins? Well maybe the ugly ones are.
Competition?
Competition usually drives prices down. We know that the wise to that and will try to lock you onto their hardware. Here's a tip: Nobody (and I mean nobody) buy it when it comes out. Wait a short two months and they will freak out seeing the units pile up from the factory. They'll knock 50 off the price it and be very apologetic about charging so much initially.
It's not what your mother said last night
He is obviously one of those quiet types, who keeps everything bottled up.
Sugar cube computers...
are even closer. To think nerds once envied people with full size towers.
It's the Family First Senator...
That the gov needs on side. He's a God botherer. Maybe the Passion of the Christ will get blacklisted too, that'll teach him.
Is Flash like Basic?
Is flash like olde Basic? if someone could explain it. I'll also have a look at it myself.
Re: socket
When I read the announcement on THG they said it would come in AM2 and AM3 versions.
Fusion (with onchip graphics) will get a socket change next year.
Who told them to change the socket?
Management to engineering, "Change the socket so they'll have to buy our motherboard chipsets all over again."
What a slap in the face.
Re: Schimdt Icon
He's the troll doll.
LOL When all tasks are automated...
The pinnacle of human technology, all mundane tasks are automated, leaving them more time for contemplative pursuits... Like masturbating for several hours a day.
Why stop there?
Tattoo your all your pin numbers and passwords on the bottom of you foot.
Cheap is king
When I build a desktop I try and buy as many features I can. When a name brand company decides to build something, someone in management is telling the engineers to cut out as much as possible to lower the cost.
2nd hand buyers do a bit more research and won't touch crippled systems, how about something that is a bit more future proof?
3 is plenty
Why were they trying to jam 5 astronauts into a moon capsule? Every kilo makes a difference. If rocket engines have gotten only 30% more efficient then 30% more weight should only be added.
Also they should concentrate on making everything modular easy to assemble in orbit. Let the Astronauts travel in comfort.
Never sign up
If you want to cross the line, be prepared to face professional criminals. Stick with free and nasty.
