The time is .. 10:40... 10:34... 11:03....no wait it's 10:40 again..

they'd done all the expensive R&D with Meego and it was production ready. Heck i've put a new battery in my N9 and it's STILL a great UX, and is my daily handset. But no, Elop was so desperate to please his master Ballmer he canned Meego and everything with it and pushed with the far less ready WP7. Everything Elop did was to benefit MSFT. Nothing he did benefitted Nokia, or Finland.
Tomi Ahonen's blog covers this in minute detail. Elop is clearly the worst CEO ever. And I'm sure the previous stakeholders in Macromedia, or even Boston Chicken, would agree that Elop was poison for them.
So many people rave about this game but i always found it really clumsy. The slow pace of play is designed as a result of the massive control shortcomings of a FPS using a controller. Sure it looked nice in its day but so did Rise of the Robots.
Besides, what happened to 'Finish the Fight'?
MeeGo is *really* good. It's slick and functions really well. In fact I have trouble faulting it. Also all the people I've shown it to are impressed and ask where they can buy it - dear me, if only they could.
That's why it was so gaulling for Elop to cast it aside in favor of a far inferior OS in WP. They'd done all the super expensive R&D.
Great news that someone is going to capitalise on the work already done.
Using Google you can have Googled for stuff, which is cute, people know what this means.
Say that you've Binged though and it sounds like you like spending the nights in Cardiff town centre having fights in front of CCTV cameras.
Still, before that it was Windows Live Search, which wasn't catchy but then had a name which matched the quality of the search, ie, crap.
Can it support ringtones over 39seconds? No.
How about tones over 1mb in filesize? No.
How about custom tones for message, email and alarms? No.
These aren't Lumia failings, they're WP failings, pretty basic but personally a new phone feels like my new phone once it makes the noises I want it to. That way I always know if MY phone is ringing.
Then while putting a rubbish WinCE based OS on, ruin the design with stupid old fashioned buttons and make sure the search button can't be changed from the search engine only MSFT employees use.
Then make sure the camera isn't up to usual Nokia smartphone standards, and while you're at it reduce the call quality and hobble the battery life.
My Meego phone has none of these problems!
The Scandinavian flair for design was one of the things which set Nokia apart. Being M$ or getting all Ballmery at NokWorld isn't a good thing; it demonstrates the repression of a unique quality to be all 'me too' which is the only thing m$ ever do.
I feel so bad for all those poor Finns. I just hope Elop gets chucked out for his treason before it's too late.
The white N9 has made my day though, Mrs will love that
To go from great innovation to just selling such a crap OS. Drives me mad. Poor Finland.
Even Symbian is better than WP7. And Meego would have been perfect, the panacea.
You can email Elop and tell him what a great job he's doing, he even responds though you need to prepare for great hubris in his replies:
stephen.elop@nokia.com
With so much sacrificed for such tat I only hope the shareholders will see that steering the ship towards WP7 is a course destined for disaster.
WP7.5 - no custom message alerts?! No tethering? Made of fail. Made of balls.
The failure to include porkers is a major failing, some licensing dispute with EA being cited as the cause.
Nonetheless I'll be playing FM4 as my preorder arrived today.
Just make sure you change handling from 'normal' which isn't normal at all, to 'simulation' which gives a much better feel to the game.
No. Just.. no. "Looks" fine to me - slick UI, but I prefer function and usability to be the measure of such a device.
This N9 is the successor to the N900 which is a truly excellent phone. Maps, great camera, flexible OS, no need to use the bloated zune app as your interface with the computah. Being an open (and evidently not burning) platform this looks just as versatile to me
Have you actually used a WP7? If so tell me how it was innovative compared to what you have just seen. You try and get the photos off your WP7 and you'll see it's terrible.
Apple only have 1 model in their range, pretty much. Usually the updates add things obviously missing (iphone 5 will have mobile network coverage when you hold it).
The problem with Symbian is that it's just not as pretty as the competition, despite being the main flexible mobile OS for years, the focus hasn't been on making it shiny.
Seriously, iTunes is terrible. What memory footprint does it leave post install? My wife's netbook now crawls as a result of installing that hateful sheet.
Hard not to lose respect for el reg after suggesting that. Even if the idrone/any other crapple stuff is any good hardware wise it's completely devalued by that utter wasteware.
I share your irritation at the faux shutter sound. However it's easy to turn off, if you know how.
You can turn it off simply by editing your profile so that warning tones are switched off. That suppresses the sound effect when you take a picture, but also stops beeping on error and the low battery sound which always starts when I'm asleep.
AFAIK this works on all S60v3 Nokias, including my current N96 but also all the several other N-series phones I've owned.
Don't steer people away from well made and easy to use phones. Otherwise, they'll have no choice but become born again Apple zealots...I wouldn't want that on my conscience, at least.
