Pirate Party wins seat in European Parliament

Non-racist would-be BNP voter here.

I didn't vote because I was away from home, but I too, like Chris W, would have voted for the BNP.

My best friend is Indian, and I have other good friends who are Indian, and African.

There's no way that I want the BNP to get in though.

If I thought that the BNP had the slightest chance of getting in and causing them any problems, I'd never vote for them, and I'd be one of the ones in rallies against them.

So - why?

It is, honestly, a protest vote. They're the party that "scare" the main 3 the most.

I want to warn the main 3 parties though that they need to buck up their ideas, and sort things out.

You can call me racist if you like, but I'm not.

£220 a day isn't much

To the AC near the start of this.

£220 isn't much when you consider:

Have to live in hotels (and trust me, you usually pick the cheapest - no £120/night hotels like when your company pays for you), away from friends, family.

That's before tax.

Before you pay for hotels

No sick/holiday/training

No job security/redundancy payout

Before you criticise, give up your permie job and go contracting.

2 mins to set up

An SSH public key, a cron job, filled with something like:

ssh user@www.avsim.org pg_dumpall | bzip2 > /home/backups/`date +%s`.db.bz2

run from a home user's machine every night/week/month would have been better than nowt.

Add in an rsync to keep a local copy of the actual web files, and you'd be back up and running in 20 minutes.

If this'll help prevent

If this'll help prevent broadband-over-powerline users from polluting the amateur HF frequencies, then I can't get enough of it.

What sort of a country

What sort of a country gets offended by insults on a message board?

A very immature one, for sure. One that's not certain enough of its status in the world.

It's like someone saying "Your Mum's a slag" to me. It's just laughably childish. Are they expecting me to start a fight?

Your/you're

@Andrew Barratt

"If the AA can implement a "your the member not the car" surely the beeb can do "your the license payer, not the household"."

I'm afraid that when someone can't tell the difference between your and you're, I stop reading, and take no notice of what they've said.

@ Steven.

"The beeb shouldn't get any kind of fee and should just have adverts like everyone else (i fast forward them on my sky+ anyway)."

No. No, no, no. The moment a company starts chasing ratings/sales, they start dumbing down, and appealing to the masses. Just look at the dross that's on ITV or 5.

Let the BBC stay independently funded. That way, they can strive to educate, and stretch our artistic/creative limits.

I wish they'd stop all the Dancing/Ice skating shit they show. But fair's fair. I get stuff I like, and I have to put up with stuff I don't like. I don't moan that I pay taxes for the fire brigade, and have never had to call them, after all.

Oh, and not all of us have Sky+.

Soyuzi, tovarish?

Two soyuz's? (What the plural for Soyuz is defeats me)

Soyuzi, I would think. Maybe with a little silent "b" at the end.
