Re: Victorian values
Reminds me of when a charity had a go at the worlds richest people, people who have given more money to good causes than them by at least 10x.
Bill Gates is doing a lot of good with his fortune.

To be honest pollution, wasting fossil fuels, and wasteful energy usage bother me more than CO2 levels. (Smog in particular is scary).
But clean energy is an essential, and we need it sooner than later.
Invest in research, thorium bed, fusion, wave power, energy storage.
Now why am I not so bothered by CO2?
1, Methane is worse. 2, saving energy means less CO2. 3, non fossil fuel means less CO2
So win win.
Well
Quite a while ago we bought a hot home PC, top end Pentium 4, went like stink (at the time). Current OS on the market was XP SP1, so that should place the date.
Anyway got replaced at home a few years ago by a quad core, not long after my work PC chucked its hard drive, I could not get my old work PC working (found out eventually due to SP2 flaws), so as it was during the last recession to save money I grabbed my old home PC, pinched the work PC RAM and was running the fastest and oldest PC at work.
The dual core celeryon, left in the dust.
Last used this PC about a year ago, still works, still not that slow, over 10 years old.
Our quad is not that much slower than my sons games PCs.
Old PCs are perfectly workable still
Because it can run a lot of software.
Unlike lots of other versions of Windows.
There is still a lot of DOS software out in the real world.
There is still a lot of 16 bit Windows software out there.
It can also run WIN32
What else do you need?
Funny really but XP is also the ONLY OS that can run both our last generation of software and our current generation. (My WINE attempts failed)

1) Try to catch them - too many routes, I'll do A38, then via Down Hatherly, Staverton, and in from that end.
2) GVBP - try to stop someone "on a mission"
I have had good customer service from them
1st gen IDTV - updated regularly, once had a tuner mod by an engineer when the sound was wrong way round
Video camera - CCD chip fault bad glue batch, repaired at quite an age for free.
Digital camera - CCD chip replaced for free
PS4 - faulty PSU on launch day unit, swapped out for new one
And I still have a working 1982 VCR
I found it VERY easy to use and set up.
I trialed a few days before Grand Tour.
Literally went down menu to Amazon placeholder, X it installed, I opened up, entered log in details, watched a free sample programme in HD, DD5.2 and NO LOGOS.
Back to PC, paid Amazon £59, back to PS4, searched everything, following day watched Man In High Castle. Then just after it finished, oh look The Grand Tour was up.
I did hold back on joining until TGT even though I have wanted to watch TMITHC for a while.
It is easy to use.
On Thursdays one minute I can be bashing Cabal with Gjallarhorns and the next be watching Clarkson Hammond and May.
I am impressed with Amazon Prime and there is enough content for a programme a night.
I cannot use ITV player at all, STV one worked until recently as long as you deleted a few web pag elements.
Anyway BBC and C4 work on both consoles, shITV abandoned them. So anything the PVR fails to record gets missed or I torrent it. (For my wife BTW)
Just remember this online TV providers, your system MUST be easier to use than a bittorrent client.
I do not even bother checking the schedule with C5 as they do not want me as a viewer.
I worked out 99% of my viewing is from the following
BBC1 HD Freesat
BBC4 HD Freesat
BBC2 HD Freesat
C4 SD Freesat
Film 4 SD Freesat
BBC News24 Freeview
Oh and Amazon Prime via PS4
BBC Iplayer is OK but the quality is a bit pants
Gove did mean well, but he failed. He is not evil, few are. Actually 95% of politicians are there to try to improve the world, 90% fail.
5% are there for reasons of power, not public service.
A few are idiots (Thornberry, Abbot)
Quite a few are lead by religious views (May, Farron, Owen Thingy)
There are a few dinosaurs (Corbyn)
A lot try and fail (Cameron, Clegg)
A small number are power hungry (Blair)
And a very small number are worth listening to (Clarke, Field)
Education, well it has been messed around with for years, a lot of it political dogma overcoming common sense.
I was at a streamed comprehensive, worked pretty well, my daughter a grammar (very good), boys an academy (OK). Now the left hate streaming and helping those of ability, the right support it.
Not nice, petrol engines as well, they would have been better off with resonance intakes than swirl flaps.
All the issues modern engines are getting is scary.
Then add in dual mass flywheels, the rush to fewer cylinders will also increase drive train shocks. Then the extended service intervals (this killed quite a few GM V6s).
Beancounters are also a serious threat with their penny pinching costing future owners hundreds of pounds. (GM valve seals, save pence, need replacing), my pet hate is plastic head dowels.
I also reckon dual clutch gearboxes will be a time bomb in a few years.
