Pirate sites
What is funny is that I do not miss them.
Too much decent FTA TV to watch without downloading rips from US TV of average series. Oh look Penguins.
OSes are either free (Linux) or not worth pirating (W10).
Plenty of free or shareware software (Libre Office, Firefox).
I have paid for video editing packages in the past
<===== no idea how it got its head
Westons or Healeys.
Oh I have, both, and bought stuff in their shops.
Still got the Westons sharpie pens, (I drunk everything else).
Pity laws stop some marketing on some stuff as a boy wanted a Healeys main brand cider pump. I wanted a sticker of the logo.
BTW same family as the car Healey.
Sorry but if you bring up the subject of apples I will bring up the subject of fermented apples.
I expect I will still have log in details and remote access, hopefully still the phone number. might even keep the key.
There is a way to leave a job but still have access.
Especially as I may need to help.
11 years to go then I will finally have time to do the important things.
Backups.
I have a lot of video material and I have multi staged backups.
The originals on Beta, Mini DV, or HDV, and recently borrowed Video 8 and Hi8.*
Raw captures on an internal drive.
MPEG2 encoded on DVD.
Raw copies on BluRay (Mini DV is AFAIR 14GB).
Raw copies on another drive.
About 10 minutes on Amazon Prime.
* Got a Sony portable VCR on the computer desk and a couple of DV based cameras, just borrowed a Hi8 deck to sort some other tapes out.
Reduce
I am a big proponent of that.
Got to my mid 50s on 4 TVs.
10 years per TV not bad, nearly time for number 5.
Home PC is 10 years old and still works OK, last mod was adding a drive for Windows 7.
Reuse, as well, yes I do that, old work mobiles get given to sons rather than they have new ones, they are happy with mid market Androids, but none want my current phone.
Recycle, do that as well.
Only thing is that I do have to spend a lot very occasionally, my last CRT TV was £1200
Deserve what I get?
Yes a reliable OS not constantly changing its GUI to fashion on the month, with a properish start menu and no Ford Cortinas.
I only use 3 or 4 web sites (this, BBC, and a few others).
I sit here and write code, I do not want nor need all the cruft in 10
I struggle with both 2D and greyscale GUIs.
I also think that the stress of Windows 10 could trigger adverse heath issues, I have had time off before with stress and would rather not again.
If I have to fight the main tool of my job I would be at risk, less productive and more likely to chuck it all in. (My pension pot is bigger than what is left on my mortgage).
As our next software will be multi platform I hope I can replace with something non MS
I detest my work phone, right POS, bloat is ridiculous and was force installed when originally either not there or I had deleted it.
Now what effect will it have elsewhere?
Only other stuff I have had from them has been hard drives, now owned by Western Digital.
When I need a new TV, there are a few top end high quality brands and some Samsung owners I know have had issues, had to return to shop and change brand over HDMI control issues.
Due to my current work phone being an absolute PITA to use.
Previous 2 HTC were OK
Now got a Samsung and a new one to replace it.
Too much bloatware, and keeps beeping mid phone calls to activate some Samsung shit or other.
A few months ago Faecesbook arrived, and I could not unistall it, was not on before but now was stuck.
Google data usage and Samsung data usage on unused services are both more than my Firefox data usage.
Anyway I need to root my new one and hope for the best.
Even Mrs "Should be happy you get a free phone" in our office upstairs is moaning about it. Others still have in the box scared to extract it.
I have also been winding up a workmate with a Samsung TV asking if pay has force installed itself yet!
It is THAT Yale isn't it?
I keep an old debit card in my pocket as it is easier to get in the house using that than hunt for the key.
I keep saying, top lock is rubbish use the bottom lock (deadlock).
So if any other family member uses the Yale I use my old debit card, then mention so can thieves.
