Brit, French nuke subs collide - fail to 'see' each other

other side of story

who knows.. maybe later on we'll hear from the Russians or US about what exactly happened..

Don't forget.. these two were boomer subs with nuclear missiles.. they are being usually trailed or looked after by attack subs... in this case the Russians would be probably trying to track these down... and when the two hit they might've gotten some great audio recordings.. bang.. squeeeeech... bang bang... then someone screams.. oh shite!... in brittish and something in frech... (sorry don't speak french) :)

on the other hand.. maybe the Ruskies or US won't say anything..

paris.. because as it was stated here before.. she loves boat-load of seamen

Holy Sh!t

WHY>>> WHY>>> WHY cannot Micro$oft come up with something that would be easy... let's say 3 versions...just like XP.. Home version with all that media center stuff and bells and whistles for home users. Pro version that would include bitlocker / domain connectivity and all Home stuff for power users and corporate version without any extra multimedia stuff..

oh.. but that would be too easy.. i guess

Space Shuttle Endeavour on its way

@ Christof Semple

WOW.. guess that you do not follow the shuttle launches. There were many more than two launches since Columbia. And I do believe that at least one night launch already happened since.

I do believe that the night time launch restrictions were in place only for the RTF (return to flight) missions STS-114 in 2005 and one more...

Bush orders US Navy to shoot down rogue spy sat

IT Angle

slight difference

Well... I do not go along with the whole "dangerous and deadly hydrazine" and "saving poor people from falling debris" thing.

This is definitely about protecting the secret technologies and international prestige.

The big difference is that shooting down a satellite that is orbiting at 540 miles creates A LOT of debris that will orbit the Earth for a very long time (China) and shooting down this spy-bird at approx 130 miles where most of the garbage will fall back to Earth within matter of days/few weeks.

And I don't really think that US has to do this as an answer to China. US had the ASAT technology in mid 80s. Look up the ASM-135 ASAT & F-15 combo platter :)

Anyway.. hopefully someone will at least record the SM-3 launch and post it somewhere... because that will be the only exciting part of the "shoot down". If there is a successful interception then all you will get on the news will be some color blobs from the IR seeker on the kill-vehicle and that will be it.

Still looking for the IT angle...

How to enjoy media in any region

Radim Horak

Region Free

I have my solution to this multi-format / multi-region crap.. www.oppodigital.com

I am in no way associated with them...

I just have two of their DVD players.. both excellent.. DV971H and DV981HD.. just search for all region service code on the web.. type it in. and you are all set.

Might be a little bit pricey for a DVD player.. but you also get decent DVD-Audio and SACD player (981HD only). Both have built in Faroudja chipset for upscaling to 1080i (DV971H) / 1080p (DV981HD) and by typing the simple service code you can set this player to region 0 and it will play any region.. and it can also convert the output signal to NTSC or PAL... does not matter.. and the video output is just plain excellent. It does NTSC 3:2 pull down and PAL 2:2 pull down.. so no hickups/interlacing lines on upscaled video...

Since I got this player I never looked back.. It plays everything.. and it also supports 100-240V 50/60Hz... so it will work anywhere.

and their tech support is just excellent..

Sorry for this "sales pitch" but I just love these players...
