Re: I'm not some kind of hippy or anything, and it's an interesting experiment....
We do a lot of nasty mining to get the materials for computers and power generation.
Lots of things are pushing us to find efficiency.
Are there estimates of the volume of network traffic from Bitcoin (and its copycats)?
How much electric power does all that mining take?
I've had one for about a week now and I'm impressed with the price to value ratio.
When I read that it had 10+ hours of browsing, I assumed that you would have to stay in the TIFKAM (Surface UI) browser, but I found that I got easily10 hours of general use; including a couple hours of playing Hearthstone.
I think a second usb port on the tablet would have been nice so that I could hook up a mouse without hooking up the keyboard. If I already had bluetooth mouse around, I might not feel the same ;)
If you like to tinker, you could probably hide some more memory in the keyboard by wiring it up to the usb port.
It supports 5 touch points, so I've been looking at gesture utilities that enable more than Windows does.
I was hoping that it would include an emulator.
As a software developer
As a software developer, I quickly learned to tell people that I didn't know much about broken computers and that I had someone I called when my computer was broken.
This helped with most of the can-you-fix -it requests, but I would still ending up uninstalling all that unused software that my mom and sisters would have.
Is it the same G4S as the shooting in Edmonton? http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/06/15/edmonton-police-say-security-guard-wanted-in-connection-to-shooting-deaths-of-three-co-workers/
If so, then they also have some problems with the selection process.
Using coercion to gain access to a secured computer system is not a legal practice.
Dollar Store / Office Supply Store
Does Edmonton not have any dollar stores or office supply stores?
I think that it was a mistake to use such a cheap item as your example.
I wonder how much consideration they have given to the possibility that these companies would cease to contribute their patents to standards bodies if it requires FRAND?
I mean an history of licensing registered trademarks after releasing their product. It the forgiveness vs. permission issue.
I don't know the details of the case, so I can't say if anyone was tricked.
With the $16 selling price, I would expect the lawyers to be a little more diligent.
I'm pretty sure that pushy sales people will not fix the problem.
How do we block this one
How can we block all certificates that stem from any so-called certificate authority that is owned by the same parent company?
Sloppiness with certificates must be punished severely.
How much will the Citrix stuff cost?
The should include native clients for both VNC and RDP.
Coke and Pepsi
Wouldn't this imply that companies like Coke and Pepsi should not be able to use their competitors products in their commercials?
Time is relative
If they manage to find a way to do it, the timespan will be very small, maybe the detector would only be able to detect that there were 2 things instead of one; or maybe history would show that the detector was damaged before the experiment ;)
Whats the equivalent Panasonic branded model?
At this price, this is surely just a Leica branded Panasonic, whats the equivalent Panasonic branded model?
The Pan. model should be quite a bit cheaper.
@Ru: For the things you mention, you should look at higher end Leica's or others that are truly made for that kind of professional need.
Is this keyboard allowed in tournaments?
Who will provide the sandbox...
Who will provide the sandbox?
I hope its from a reputable third party, because Adobe doesn't seem to be on the cutting edge of securing software.
Wow, I thought this happened years ago

upscale its image
The best way to fix their image is to put the money into the machines/engineering, not into the marketing bs.
They really should have waited until they could include a pico projector with it.
Somehow the flat look just doesn't really convey the impression of an R2 unit for me.
Did the study take into account the levels of enforcement of the bans?
Just because a law is made doesn't mean people will change what they do.
Isn't the WIFI issue in Israel due to not meeting Europeon standards?
Cookies on which siites?
Does anyone know on which sites they are setting cookies? I only want to be signed in to hotmail, not to a bunch of other sites I never need to log in to.
Here comes whacking day
Just politics as usual
It is critical that sex-for-money activities be made illegal in such a way as to make them available to the well-known while maintaining the threat of police action if someone were to publicize that they are servicing such a well known person...
A product that recommends turning off windows update is going to lead to more problems than it solves.
List of emails
Is there a way to consult the list of compromised emails without also consulting the passwords?
PasteBin seems to be unavailable from where I am ;)
An account with an ISP, what a novel idea; what do you do when you change ISPs?
Is it about the installer?
Is the OS installer not part of the open source stuff?
Off with his head
An Apple computer in the picture... off with his head.
I believe that we (humans) have a significant effect on the environment. With all the stuff we do, how could we not have an effect?
That being said, the scientific information from both side seems to be based more on belief than on science.
I wonder how much understanding a manager at NASA would have of the individual projects of the hundreds of people under his direction.
