How Much?

So what, Yes its worth it, as to date I have had 3 MacBooks in the last 8 years all are still working today my friend has had 6 PC laptops (Acer x2, Dell, HP x2, Sony), before he got a macbook too. They wont break unless you really go for it. they are Over Engineered.

Frederick Tennant

Where can I go to join this study?

I would love to see if I would become violent if I play all day, and get paid for it. every time somebody gets shot and the public goes mad, games get the blame. GUNS DONT KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.

when someone builds a BFG and take out a school, I might think again lol

Frederick Tennant

Kobo, thats great news

Im a Graphic designer, who is currently going to get a double hip replacement so im currently stuck at home when everybody els is having fun, I read my pdf manuals and magazines on my laptop (macbook pro) but I dont have a need for a tablet as I have a Iphone and glasses.

I did try to read books on my phone but gave that up. (too small and too bright) I was given a kobo for Christmas (thanks Sara & Chris), and its been great. Ive managed to put away my old books and download the epub version.

Its nice to walk away from my laptop and chill and read while listening to music. fit in pocket great, Im now enjoying reading again, so what if you cant deal with pdf documents, Ive tried and omg never again, however if thats all you read find a reader that fits the bill dont give kobo a hard time im a restored paperback reader again.

Frederick Tennant

yep maps did take a bad turn with apples latest version

But I was one of the lucky ones who started using "Waze" for my turn by turn navigation. its great fun driving past another user on the motor way and giving a knowing nod. 3d images in a map indeed, Steve must be turning in his grave. Giving directions via my Bluetooth headset means that I do not need to have my phone on my dashboard like all the lambs out there.

Re: Any old iron?

I thought I was alone, im currently in the same camp as yourself, however I have now gotten myself a Macbook Pro intel, to catch up with software, as for my old G4, yep it works a treat so im currently filling it with hard drives, both internal and external and redeploying it as a Media Server. Im currently converting my DVD & CD library to itunes, and I have gotten hold of some Airport Express and active speakers and Im now the proud owner of music & video in every room in my house controlled by portable iproducts.

Frederick Tennant

Who Cares?

I thought I would check out my local phone shop for prices, the cheapest Apple phone was going for £28 per month on contract the phone was free and the latest 5 was £66 per month plus £89 for the phone. Compare that to the Samsung phone the flagship S3 cost £28 per month phone is free, looking further into this I found that all Samsung phones are free on contract. To get an Apple phone free you have to pay some big money per month for it, I could go on but its clear who is making the real money here. The difference here is that all the different Samsung phones have different versions of Android onboard and work very differently, Apples 5 & 4 gives the same user experience.

Still I love the S3 phone though

Frederick Tennant

Think for yourself naughty Samsung

Samsung s phone, was everything which Apple was not, Apple did not build the massive screen for a reason, this action just confirms that our fruit company understands its customers. Samsung understands its competition, before Apple it was Rim.

So nothing new here.

30 years old

Time to warm up my Mission PCM 7000R and get out my copy of Dire Straits Brothers in Arms CD just for when I return home. Yep a few of my CDs has gone nuts but every one has been treated with respect and I dont lend them out anymore as some people think they are indestructible.

Cassette tapes are great, until your unlucky and put them into a crap player.......I remember taking the tape out followed by the cassette innards reeling out of the player, totally destroyed.

I still buy CDs as if you read the small print for your itunes library when they go or you go, they are gone. I love my Turntable, but heres the thing, you cant put an 'algorithm' in a frame on the wall by your hifi.

Frederick Tennant

Re: Sony Cdp101

Hi, the blue ribbon socket was for the Midi hifi system which it was designed to work with, there was a long ribbon which connected to the amp, cassette etc although the first remote did not have controls for the CD player, later versions did.

Frederick Tennant

Size dont matter (So my partner says)

WD My Passport Edge at 11mm, Hitachi NESO 10mm, and now this, how much thinner can we get? hang on and watch this space lol.

Frederick Tennant

bad map

So the post "Jobs" crap started already, He would never had released this product its like playing into the hands of the competition. if i used maps on my old version I would restore back to iOS 5 and wait.

Frederick Tennant

Well who's the next company to have sleepless nights?

2 million, iphones sold? whats happening with all the old phones? hand them to the children?, nope they have a ipod Touch, so what happens to the old touch? thats easy, just unplug the land line and plug in your old 3GS on your home wifi, yep its the network land line, if all your children are using their touch as mobiles in their bedrooms free of charge, so can mum and dad, with their old phone just push face-time or better still Skype, Viber etc and your talking to your mates for hours free all over the world. Yep BT,Virgin and other land line companies had better start getting their act together look what happend to Nokia, Sony, Nintendo etc.

Frederick Tennant

I like the black one.......

I love reading your opinions on the iphones, pods, laptops etc. it appears that engineers & coders love android phones, & PC's graphic designers & artists like iphones & Mac's (that should start another row lol)

All my phones have been white but I will get the second gen or "S" version only because the company pays for them, and my contract runs out when the "S" version arrives.

For years I could not get my mobile to connect with my apple computer, it was like no phone manufacturer was interested, thank you apple as i now have a phone which I can use without my laptop. I dont believe that there is a android program to connect to my mac? (funny, I've never looked as the iphone came first lol)

Why black? Thats easy, Steve Jobs is dead and it will be my tribute to him for making my life that bit better.

Frederick Tennant

funny thing that!

Samsung is doing very well as they are giving away their New! phone (already!!!) at well under Apple's price (source Carphone Warehouse uk). I do not recall any stories of people camping outside phone shops ready to buy the Galaxy 3? or people scampering round at every little bit of rumor, when leaked, of their phones.

I personally think that the '4s' is their best phone yet, as its better built than previous models and the price will fall through the floor when the 5 arrives, and girls, 4 inches is not going to help lol.

its all getting a bit boring now.

Frederick Tennant

3.5" optical?

We never know what apple are up to but their Airport plug has an optical output as well as normal headphone output, whats stopping them giving us the same thing in their new iphone 5 and keep the audiophiles happy?

Frederick Tennant

just the right size....

to play COD with real size foe coming at you from all sides, thats if you have 3 off them and a bad ass computer, bring it on....

Frederick Tennant

Oh Dear!

Poor old Nokia, It looks like they will go into free fall, if they don't get their act together, and the only way out is "Android" Yep I said it, windows has abandon them, (No update for windows os was the last straw) at least Android works. Sell your stocks people.

Oh my, Reg you have dropped the ball here.

I read your review and thought, What the...... well lets not go there. So I saw that nobody had commented on this article so I thought I would get the ball rolling, however loads of people have and they are all right. This is an attempt to get the stupid to buy a product to improve the quality of an algorithm??? think about your readers...... or did you? looking back at this article its quite funny that these products exists. So lets remember readers this product really do exist and fools will enjoy it and brag to their friends. Now thats worth talking about.

p.s. fix your web page

Frederick Tennant

Fruit vrs Robot???

Market share?, Desire?, can we remember that these are phones, you who read Reghardware are technically minded we know where to get the latest drivers, programs etc. The rest of the worlds phone users, just use them as mobile phones.

Everybody is pointing at that fruit company as they have changed the face of mobile phones. buttons are almost dead, long live buttons.

Frederick Tennant

Bandwidth issues...

This is what they call progress? Some of my clients have issues with their board-band, e.g. people living in the villages and the country dont have any board-band worth talking about.

BT wont speed them up until cable (Virgin) reaches them, e.g. Battlefield is unplayable out there, downloads take overnight if it dose not time out, and its the same with most network games, so how are they going to make progress or watch the city make progress lol. Sorry Game but its been a good run...

Frederick Tennant
Unhappy

Think I will wait....

Until the price drop to £120 in the next of the yard sales.

Don't any of theses companies learn? or are they just as stupid as HP?

let's have a look at the specifications.....

Heavy..................... Yes

Thick....................... Yes

Overpriced............. Yes

Doggy software..... Yes

Useless Pen.......... Yes

Attractive................. Yes???

Well gentlemen I think congratulations are in order, as we have a Apple Killer here.

Frederick Tennant

Re: No fan of Apple, but....

I have to agree with you on this one, Im no fan of Apple, but I don't like bullies, and thieves. All they have done is produce some good products for the mass public and companies are lining up to have a go, or worse try to rob them. Some people are just poor losers.

ps dose anybody remember what the smartphone market was like before Apple had a go?

We all hate lawyers and yet they are the silent winner here.

Frederick Tennant

Typical

Well done Nokia, Some things will never change.

I had to abandon my Nokia phone because of the lack of support for Apple OS, thank you Apple for the iphone.

So what market is Nokia looking for now?

The clock is ticking Nokia.... remember the Sony Walkman??

Frederick Tennant

Nokia, oh dear!

"The Finnish phone giant has been selling S40 phones since 1999, when it rolled out the Nokia 7110, the first mobile with a WAP browser - remember that?"

WAP was one of the reasons why the new generation of smartphone have taken off and left Nokia making phones for the grandparents. WAP has to be the worse internet experience know to man.

Frederick Tennant

I sold BBC computers

i used to work with paper tape at school, so I was told to sell them in Laskys Hifi Cov, I loved the BBC but could never afford one. My Manager sold C 64, we both was surprised how they ran out of the door. Not forgetting Sinclare Spectrum, Oric's, Atari 800XL and don't forget the assessories, Tape player, monitors etc.

Today im writing this on my mobile phone, how times have changed.

Frederick Tennant

if you think that iphone users upgrading to another is bad......

More to the point is as more iphone users love their product, more are buying Imac's and or laptops to compliment their phones. When I asked why their answer was it works and the attention to detail which Apple has always had.

What Im so confused about is that when Apple was taking over the MP3 market nobody said a word. How many of you Android users have or had ipods?

But not to worry Steve is dead, so its only a matter of time before Apple screws it all up.

Frederick Tennant

Thats really horrible

FanboiTwats, thats really bitter of you to call somebody such a thing.

its a choice thing and don't take it so personally.

Frederick Tennant

Mac Mini would keep her Indoors happy.

Love the issue as I have had the same issue here and this is how I solved it.

First I did not bother with the BR Player as I use MKV maker to Archive my collection of DVD/BR and store them on a Netgear Stora NAS Box with 4tb of hard drive space (2x2TB HDD) on board (copyright might be an issue). Or if you need the BR Player just pop one into your pc and apple will see it and you can play your films to your TV via your mac mini.

The NAS is kept where my PC is setup out of the way, my friend has converted the cupboard under the stairs to do the same thing but thats another story.

Pop the mac mini under the TV as she wont know what it is and besides it looks as it was meant to be by the TV. Network is wireless for streaming & Myth TV runs on it too. Best of all you can control the unit with your smart phone. It could also be your music player too just plug into your hifi system.

Frederick Tennant

ithing??

its a bit short sited to ask for a Android dock speaker. Or has everybody here forgotten about where the connector comes from??? Well for the ones that had forgotten, Apple produced the Ipod!! which was designed for music, they owned over 70% of mp3 sales for years and now you wonder why nobody makes music for android only, come on and smell the coffee NO STANDARD, NO PRODUCT. its a numbers game.

Frederick Tennant

USB only!

Nice looking box, but its no home hub!

With USB2 only its just an external hard drive with some nice software and HDMI output. (no i did not forget the audio) The problem is how do you put all your music or videos on this unit.

What this needs is a a fast network connection (wired or wireless) so that you can put your movies on the drive. Do they have any idea how large a 1080p MKV file can be?

Frederick Tennant

YES YES YES Your so right

I remember changing my old phone because I liked the way it looked e.g. Motorola Razr, LG Shine, Nokia 8800 Carbon are just a few. With apple you get 2 phones (soon to become 3) and thats it worse they look almost the same at the front. I got my Iphone because I wanted full integration with my mac, something all other phone manufactures ignored. Now all so called smart phones look the same, Microsoft is going a different route which is good (I think??) worse still nobody will be designing candy bar phones anymore as smart phones will take over.

Darwin has a lot to answer for

Frederick Tennant

Making a copy of iPad is cheating

The Samsung looks the same as the Pad, thats just taking the piss, as some people would think they was buying a Ipad.

lets hope that when they do come out they are nice and cheep like £150 hint hint

Frederick Tennant

Love the case

love the case love the price and style and a good price in a word Game On!

Frederick Tennant

if you think the price for these are good have a look at the iphone

just seen the iphone prices, you can pick up a phone for with £29 up front for an iphone4 and the same tarriff as what i now have at O2 now. I can only hope that it will be cheaper next year when my contract runs out.

Frederick Tennant

No DVDr Bad Idea

I still use mine to import movies, via firewire, edit via final cut, and burn DVD's all in one slimline laptop! looks like im going to have to keep mine a little longer. Now wheres that rubber cover for it?

Frederick Tennant
Trollface

Ive never seen so many upset people

iOS vrs Android is a no brainer, IT Pros will accept a crash without an issue, I was listening to an engineer the other day saying that his only crashes a few times during the day now he's has updated the software??? IT SHOULD NOT CRASH AT ALL!

Apples closed system keeps out the real doggy software, yes i will admit that some software is crap and crashes but they rarely take out the phone with it. As for Flash or Flash programs? well we all know that they have had the 4 years to produce a version of flash which don't drain your battery or crashes your phones and pads.

So how many malware ridden phones are out there? The worst thing is the 'Suites' who want iphones often struggle with a powerpoint presentation so how do you think they will get on with Android?

Frederick Tennant

Almost perfect

Just what the doctor ordered to place under your tv

Just load up vlc as it playes mkv files and your in

download heaven why you can use your phone or iPad

Instead of buying a keyboard and mouse lol

Just a bit expensive but that's apple for ya

Frederick Tennant

Two Stories

I remember the days when Apple users would recognize another Apple user by their white headphones, when I was a student walking down the high street, The day i received the email that "Hell had frozen over" (for the people who do not know, it was the day Apple made software for the PC sorry I meant windows) and thus the war was over for the competition.

As for their quality how many Apple users still have old imacs, cubes, and mac mini's around their house?

They controlled the music market, by creating a the download market when other companies treated their users like common crooks, Yes there are plenty of better players but their software is clunky to use at best. And finally they managed to move on from the click wheel which we thought was the best thing since sliced bread to touch screen..... Nothing new here but the software that went with it was again the killer blow. Some people hate the control Apple has regarding its software, but after the malware issues of Android etc, Apples control is more like user experience. I will leave flash alone for now.

Everywhere i look its Apple this and Apple that, and people who know me is saying look what i can do with my new iphone

Judging by these figures, the term "Think Different" is history well done Apple or Steve Jobs it should be interesting to see what happens when he's gone. i must admit Im real glad Steve Jobs returned to Apple and created this new monster of a company.

Its the software which is the killer product here, Bill Gates new it too.

Frederick Tennant
WTF?

This is old tech....

You can find this tech on the range rover now, it was seen on Top Gear. Its one of the better idea's to come out as in the car the driver sees his sat nav, and the passenger can watch there tv or video at the same time. Nothing 3D about it at all.

Frederick Tennant
WTF?

Well Im going to say it, if nobody else will!

70 % of returns are because, the user went into the phone shop to buy an iphone, saw the price and decided to get themselves something cheaper. Used it for a few weeks, recognized their mistake and returned it for an iphone.

Im not a fanboys, I only work with Apple computers and while pre Iphone Smart Phones did their job they just did not connect with Apple OS very well, most programs from Sony, Nokia to connect their phones was written for the PC, Apple OS was an after thought.

A great many people want the Iphone but just cant afford it. I use mine for work only as I still love me Vertu Ascent TI Ferrari Collection which cost more than my car,

So enter Stage left the Iphone and overnight it set the new standard for smart phones, and with some clever marketing and their usual tight control over hardware and software they have created a stable user experience. All other mobile companies are running around trying to produce a iphone killer when they should be working on what they do best. as a small green man once said "Control you must learn control"

Frederick Tennant
Alien

Easily infected

Yes, users are the problem. How can somebody install a program which they have no idea if it going to help them, reading information from the install site without checking is just plain nuts.

If a strange man approached you in the street and said "come with me if you want to live and you follow him down a dark ally, don't be surprised if you get mugged.

Do you remember the intel inside badge which was renamed, "idiot outside" in the early 90's well its time to bring them back for our Granny Smiths.

Frederick Tennant
IT Angle

I miss my scsi

Yes, I have kept my old dual 1GB cpu systems (remember them? 2 cpu & 2 fans on the same motherboard) and 4 SCSI 1500 rpm hard drives, running raid 0. and don't forget the "Knight Rider" lights in the raid card. Now all we have is a very small port in the side of your computer how times have changed.

Frederick Tennant

EE Doc Smith

Yes your right. That author is a work of art, my fav has to be the expansion from the novella by Stephen Goldin who did the 'Family D'Alembert. agents from a heavy grav planet, everything would be in bullet time.

Frederick Tennant

Lensman

yea I saw that waist of plastic.Lensman is a great series of books, but will they keep the redheads as the heros?

Frederick Tennant

Sorry but you can hear a difference.

Having quality equipment, (Quad - Mission) I decided to pop my ipod into the system via a ipod dock, and the quality was not very good. So I re imported all my CD's using the highest quality level on itunes, and still not much better, Flac wont play on ITunes without some doggy conversion but it will play via VLC through my laptop and the sound quality is quite good. But only as acceptable background music, things might change in the future but not yet.

If you have quality equipment you can hear a difference.

Duke is a dude, why women love him?

He's always 'Delayed', and without any creams too.

Too Little Too Late

How long? I needed something for my Mac years ago, great phones you did then but now?

Im on my second generation of IPhone, (3Gs) and you expect me to return to Nokia with this half finished product? best stick to what your good at, (Windows), now thats a good, finished product. i will not change my work computer for something that crashes 3 times a day (PC).

Rant over, well I do feel sorry for Nokia, they was the No1., now they are just an old phone company watching the world go by. Most Mac users now have Iphones, we just had to wait too long for you to do something about the lack of support.

Just a thought, I bet if they look in their Development bin they would find a proposal for an touch screen Os in there which a bright developer came up with but management killed as it was not in keeping with their old ways.

Frederick Tennant

Well spotted!

Apple only produced a phone and claim they made the wheel lol

All the have done is make a os based on the old fustrations of that stupid pen I used to use on my ipac. There are lies, dam lies, and then there is marketing

Frederick Tennant

Missing flash

Missing flash or requiring updates is one of the reasons why apple don't have flash on their pads

Posted in Samsung Omnia 7
Frederick Tennant

Flash?

Flash is coming? you would think that Adobe would have had it ready form the get go, after what happened with iOS yes we can wait and wait and if it happends well how long before you have to download another update, after update etc. Apple was right about being held by the balls by a third party.
