eBay not obliged to protect trade marks, says High Court

Matthew
Thumb Down

hrm

In a way I think that they should protect their users better. There's lots of fake Sony crap, make-up, etc etc, on ebay that shouldn't be there.

It's sometimes hard to tell if its real or not unless you're comparing it against the real thing.

Though I guess that's the price you pay for paying peanuts.

Missing: 1TB of Clinton White House data

Matthew
Thumb Down

laughable

firstly that they had 1tb drives in the clinton years. and 2ndly that they still don't have cctv or encryption to catch whoever did it. *sigh* I don't think ANY government anywhere in the world has caught up with the basics of security in the modern age.

Safe thing with "filesharing"

Anyway, good luck with this. Just make sure your download servers aren't located in the USA and what can they do if your software doesn't conform?

Satellite to offer 10Mbit broadband to entire UK

Matthew

Completely Useless

Having lived on the west coast, new zealand I had to put up with satellite broadband for a while. Latency was 1+ seconds....

it was faster to use a 56k for most things.

Pirate Bay guilty verdict: Now what?

Matthew
Thumb Down

Meh

In the end it will just be like kazaa or napster. there is always another waiting to take its place

What really gets me though is the way they measure copyright infringement. I mean if its free your going to download FAR more than if you have to pay for something. therefore, its stupid measuring the downloads etc and saying "we have list this much", because most of the people downloading wouldn't have bought it if it cost actual money.

.

Pirate Bay loses trial: defendants face prison time, hefty fines

Matthew
Alert

@ lee

That assumes that you would buy the material if you didn't download it :-)

which is most cases wouldn't happen..

Plus alot of it is TV anyway that people just want to watch in their own time etc, but is paid for by broadcasting fee anyway.

McAfee: Save the planet - use a spam filter

Matthew

wtf

So none of the power comes from green sources such as nuclear power or hydro plants or wind power?

I think for the average modern dual/quad core PC the amount of processing power is negligible, especially since many people use laptops these days.

Plus, how much CPU does a spam filter use?

This sounds as believable as the "apple tax"

subjects?

Perhaps facebook students are doing harder subjects. Its easier to get an A in media studies than in law..

Perhaps this shows that people on face book take harder subjects at uni, not that they are stupid. When i was finishing uni last year the amount of people who used computers regularly, and therefore networking sites was much higher in law and commerce subjects than in arts, which are far easier.

Tesla Roadster runs for 241 miles in Monte Carlo e-rally

Matthew

still crippled

by the fact that Lithium batteries are in such short supply that it would cost an unreasonable amount if they wanted to start adding them to cars on a large scale. They also degrade over time so don't expect that range to last more than 3 or so months.

AND there's also the little detail that when you do run out of fuel its not just 30 seconds to recharge.

Replacing batteries doesn't seem like the answer either as you still have the same battery degrade problem, if a battery capacity is reduced say 20%, which happens very quickly do you get a 20% reduction in your erm..... battery... bill?

There would also be the problem of cheap Asian batteries people would doubtlessly start buying as replacements :-). Would be interesting to see one explode at a charging station.
