Re: "concentrate on building great products that really help in their lives"
I use this service every day between my laptop, iPhone and Android Phone.
I guess I will have to find a replacement.
Remember when Sun was considering buying Apple?
How times change.
The name is Illumos
It already exists.
Time for Mark Shuttleworth to invest and start ramping up Ubuntu systems.
You are correct.
The Atari we all know ended in 1996.
This company is Tramel Technology Ltd. who purchased the Atari brand and renamed themselves.
Re: Not "open" to International?
I was referring to developers outside the US who have actually BUILT an open source heath care system that is IN USE by their country.
Not "open" to International?
While I understand the politics of this being limited to US citizens, I think they will be missing out on a lot of experience from developers in other countries which have much more experience in this field.
I'm sure most of them are corporate marketing and PR accounts.
Microsoft Lock In
Who can't appreciate that!
Look how well it worked out for Flooz?
Re: Didn't Sun have an office in the World Trade Center?
"I wondered what the impact of that was."
At that time, Sun was promoting remote working so many 340 employees based there weren't yet in that office that morning.
And the employees who were, evacuated when the first plane hit. 100% of the office employees were safe.
Unfortunately one of the Sun executives, Philip Rosenzweig, was on flight 11. :-(
Re: These thieves keep their products prices sky-high
"And even Seagate/Hitachi that didn't have any damage at all raised prices anyway."
WD owns Hitachi.
Prices too High
Prices still haven't gotten down to pre-flood levels.
People who can afford to, are waiting.
Carbon Copy Cloner
Carbon Copy Cloner isn't freeware.
Full on payware.
Its all about Oracle
Oracle owns the IP on ZFS.
Open source doesn't mean patent free.
They should have gone with open source options.
There is some reason that you think Apple is required to use Google Maps?
We can't think of anything original and new
Whatever will we do?
Let's create something redundant and tie it to Facebook so hopefully Suckerberg will buy us.
Re: Knowing humanity's rotten luck...
If they have run into Voyager, they are very close to us already.
What price cuts?
Sandisk products have been pretty steady for the past 2 years while other brands have been dropping in price.
Re: crazy academic led BS as usual?
"Your printer doesn't need to be able to talk to the Internet"
It comes in handy when I want to send my printer a page when I'm not home.
You're just upset because you are the only kid in class with a Zune player and a Kin phone.
TV Tuner Company
I'm sure everyone looks to a TV Tuner fab for hard drives?
Google TV Failed
Especially when the media vendors started blocking their devices.
Funny how people are nitpicking what the technology is capable of, yet ignoring the real world speeds are typically for the home:
AT&T = 1-2Mbs down / 0.5Mbs up
Comcast = 20-22Mbs down / 3-4Mbs up
There's no comparison.
Voyager 6 of course.
USB3 is sloooow
Doesn't compare to the 10Gbs bi directional thunderbolt.
And so it begins
The consolidation of manufacturers and the "benefit" for consumers.
Would you like your computer to come with hard drive A or B?
Nothing is better for consumers like lack of competition.
"kids buy Android ("It's cheap!")"
You hang around strange kids.
No iTunes Needed
Don't know what the author is smoking.
iTunes has nothing to do with downloading Lion through the Mac App store application.
Lion os USB Stick
Apple announced that Lion will be sold on a USB stick starting in August for $69 in the US.
In the land of data caps, streaming services aren't a smart move. Especially in the mobile market.
Shipping in Hardware
Are these only sold off the shelf or are they shipping in laptops?
Been accessible all night
My mail client has been able to make connections continuously.
Maybe it is a disconnect over the pond.
Updated 6 systems so far, no issues
Download time was less than 10 minutes on Comcast.
I suspect the people having problems have installed system hacks which typically cause issues with system updates.
USB Device ID?
When this is plugged into a computer, will it actually identify itself as an HP device or will they try once again to trick the computer into thinking they are an iPod?
Lock in Preference
So Google's cloud lock in is ok?
What crashes in Vegas
stays in Vegas
ARM Manufactured by Intel
Is it unthinkable that Intel's massive fabs will also be producing a large chuck of the ARM processors as well?
Cost of Business
Australia lets companies import duty free?
The Next Tila Tequila
Who will be the Tila Tequila of Facebook?
I'd be nice if Apple bought T-Mobile so those of us in the US would still have an alternate GSM option.
They could buy T-Mobile AND Sprint to battle the Verizon/ATT duopoly.
As a T-Mobile customer, I'm saddened by this.
I'm sure the FCC is just holding off the rubber stamp until more bribes come in.
Good way to get rid of the junk to get an iPhone.
eBay is Retail?
eBay is nothing more than a fencing service for stolen or counterfeit goods.
Mac Volume Limits
" 10.4 doesn't support drives larger than 2TB."
10.0 & 10.1 had a limit of 2 TB
10.2 8 TB
10.3 16 TB
10.4 and later, 8 EB
I'm looking at a 1st gen iPhone running iOS 3.1.3 and an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.3.
Both phones show the proper time after the US daylight savings time change.
"The "universal network" does seem like a logical step, but I think you would need to do it with a VoIP network much like the Skype/Skype In/Skype out model."
It's called SIP and it existed long before Skype.
In Europe you can buy cell phones with SIP support and will route your calls is you are connected to wifi.
