Archos 70 Android 7in tablet

Lottie

re:OR

Surely a jailbroken iDevice is pretty much the same as a rooted Android device? They both have the control software removed.

I'm sure that there are iStore movie rentals that won't work on a jailbroken iDevice just like Google rentals won't work on a rooted device.

What's with the aggressive raaah-ness anyway? Did an android insult your mom?

Sony Vaio VPCF21Z1E 16in laptop

FAIL

re: Im trying not to rise to this

Well there's no fruit logo on the front.

I must say the macbooks look sexier, but this has a very rugged look, like something out of Aliens.

I have to say, it's a very tempting computer despite the seeming insurmountable issues of not fitting in a laptop bag that's made for smaller computers, not having a cover for the ports and featuring a firewire connector that means it'll connect to lots of kit. Damn! I mean connectivity for more formats than you'd expect? who would DO that?

Boobs on display in Duke Nukem web game

Lottie

Oh, boobs...

... still very light on releases from the company about game play though.

Boffin quests for, finds 'earphone Holy Grail'

Lottie

Interesting idea.

I'm all for anything that makes it more natural sounding and helps keep my lugs healthy at the same time.

I hereby patent the concept of personal stereo puncture repair kit :-)

confused

So there's no single player game, but there IS a solo game where you play through a story against bots?

Buh?

Renault readies sub-£7000 e-car for Blighty

Lottie

runk?

It reminds me of the version one terminators from T3. Well maybe the T1 robots simple half brother.

Sadly, the model for hiring and whatnot just doesn't add up. 30 odd pence per mile is more than I get from my Ka and I've done over 1500 miles in the past month. Sadly it would work out super expensive and far too restrictive.

Plus, I couldn't keep an emergency jacket in the back as it'd get nicked.

Fail all round then.

Fiat 500 TwinAir

Lottie

Wow

I think I've found my next car. I love the design of the new 500 (it reminds me of a space age toaster) and I found the old cinquecento to be a hoot when driven hard.

I also love the whole concept of fuel economy dropping into the 40 mpg range if driven hard. That's good for a lot of cars if driven cautiously./

Sony Ericsson intros Xperia minis

Lottie

Nice hardware, but...

... The update schedule for keeping things updated really sucks.

I doubt I'll carry on using SE when I come to change handsets, which is a shame as the X10 mini I have has a lot going for it.

Everest climber finds 3G signal, sends Tweet

I guess that guy wins the internet. I forsee a craze for extreme facebook updates now.

Motorola's laptop-dock Android phone out on Orange

Lottie

I wonder

Will they do a desktop dock for the laptop.

I suppose this really is the logical conclusion of mobile devices. Smartphones are essentially PCs now and I can see how this would work well in my house.

2011 Ford Focus

Lottie

In all fairness

I recently picked up a 12 year old KA. Now they're not as high quality as the focus and whatnot, but I have to say I was impressed by the amount of stuff that's still working (ie: all of it). I really think Ford are on a par with the japanses/ korean manufacturers now.

Maybe it comes from their recent dealings with Hyundai?

Tron: Legacy 3D Blu-ray disc set

Lottie

No blu ray

so I'll just get the DVD.

I'm still quite surprised that companies are offering digital copies with their discs. I'm sure the DRM will be cracked soon enough.

Anyway, re: the original Tron, did anyone else ever consider hooking a webcam up in place of a laser and trying to bait their PC into digitizing them? No?

Never mind.

Asus N73SV Core i7 Sandy Bridge 17.3in laptop

Lottie

Impressive

I was reading that, wondering how far over 1700 quid this would be.

Pleasnt surprise it's under a grand.

Shame I still can't afford it though :-(

Sonim XP3300 Force rugged mobile phone

Lottie

me likey!

It looks like a Nokia that's been on a steroid binge. For once, I can see the price justification in a phone. I suspect in the wild, you could put it in a sock and club a bear to death with it.

Ten... 40-42in net connected HD TVs

Lottie

10 years on

I view tellyboxes as an investment. My current one is a good 10 years old now and starting to get a bit ropey. My biggest worry about buying a fancy assed telly like the ones with their online media portals is the concern that in 10 years time, will the portals still be active?

Upgrade-hungry office drones ponder PC prangs

Lottie

It all depends

The person opposite me needed to have her version of Excel updated and that made her computer slow to a crawl. For me, I needed a computer that would run GIMP and a load of other stuff and it was hell to get my computer upgraded to anything useable.

As programs like Word and Excel get more and more resource hungry, people will need more and more powerful PCs

Lottie

Who ISN'T tempted?

I'm just hoping the mass of papers on my desk will slide backwards and block the PSU vents...

PowerAmp

Lottie

really?

Last time I looked, it didn't have such EQ goodness and felt a little clunky.

Might have another look if it has EQ settings.

Nvidia: 'old' tablet development kit won't get Android 3.0

Lottie

I used to wonder the same thing

but since an OS update on my phone, I noticed massive gains in battery life.

Also, I think lots of folk are buying a tablet now and thinking that while the 2.x isn't really good for tablet use, they'll put up with it for now and upgrade in future.

Daft idea IMHO.

Duke Nukem Girls give it some on video

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

Lottie
Unhappy

nice

but it looks like the simple "pick up and play for 5 mins" feel has been lost. I loved the way you could dip in and out of the older lego games. Adding RTS elements seems a bit off to me.

Anyway, did anyone else think that in the context of Lego, Kit Fisto sounded like a porn name?

Damn, I can remember when the 500ish MB in my PC was super huge and now we have 512GB selling for relatively peanuts!

Commodore USA prices up revived C64, VICs

Lottie

External HDD

If I had one of these, I'd SO want to put an external HDD into the shell of a datasette cassette player. That would look sweet :-)

Lottie

title

I read elsewhere that it does indeed come with an emulator.

Lottie

Nice idea

but I'd only want it for the emulation side of things and I still have my old C64.

The VIC20 was my first computer. Shame to see they didn't go with the classic look for that line.

Poor goodie bag?

Seems to me like a certain papers tech editor wasn't invited to the product launch or maybe got a smaller goodie bag than expected.

UK's oldest working telly up for sale

Wow!

That's really impressive. I wish consumer electronics had as much class these days.

jiggly legs

I like this idea a lot. Stick a couple of them in the feet of my trainers and my incessant fidgetting will have more purpose than just making my monitor wobble.

I wonder if you could embed them in lamp posts so that their wind caused wobblings could charge internal batteries?

If they could make massive amounts, they could replace underlay in office carpets, so all the people walking up and down stairs could help offset the air con bills.

Nanotech nerds assemble überfast-charge battery

Lottie

Ah!

I was wondering what to do with some self-assembled three-dimensional bicontinuous nanoarchitectures consisting of an electrolytically active material sandwiched between rapid ion and electron transport pathways just the other day!

This is actually dead cool and if its charge cycle life can be increased and the battery can be scaled for EV tech, then we have a serious breakthrough.

Troll

Re: Really "Lottie"?

I'll have to take other folks word for it, but apparently I'm quite attractive, yeah.

At the risk of feeding the troll, are you sure you aren't just *hoping* that you'll be cybering with fat hairy men posing as girls?

Lottie
WTF?

Up yours you mysoginistic asshole

"it's very unlikely the sexy fit girl in the photo would own an Android, girls are practical like that, don't want to spend their lives fussing around with gadgets."

Yeah, I hate gadgets.... Oh no, I actually love my android phone, linux netbook and windows PC.

I'm sorry, must go now to look at shoes and puppies online.

Tosser!

Lottie

so you mean...

... I can be on the phone, say "hang on while I send you the file", click a button and send one?

Fuck yeah, I'm getting closer to living in a sci fi movie every day :-)

Extended Lord of the Rings Blu-rays to hit Blighty

After the Limited Extended Edition has been out for a couple of months, will we see the Extended Limited Edition boxed set and subsequently, the Ultimate Extended Limited Edition.

I think I'll pass.

Asus to take fight to tablets with cheap Google netbook

Lottie

title

I suppose they mean "cheap in comparrison". It's a shame as it showed you could get a lot of kit for very little. I really want another netbook as my oooold Aspire one is showing its age and would readilly snap up something super cheap and slap Linux on it.

EA dubs Nintendo Wii a 'legacy platform'

Lottie

I played on a Wii for the first time about a month ago

... and I REALLY feel like I've been missing out.

It may be legacy, but it has something that the likes of Sony and Microsoft and their developers have forgotten: Simplicity.

Back in the day, you could hook up your NES/ Mastersystem/ Megadrive to a telly, grab a controller and play for a bit, then die and hand the controller to a mate and say "your turn" and you'd all sit around hooting at the mistakes/ daft stories and whatnot. The controls were simple and the games were more social in a way. That's what the WII has over the others.

IMHO, it may be legacy, but you don't NEED fancy graphics, 7.1 HD surroundsound and the like to make a good game. You need a good story, an element of fun and something to make you care about what you're doing.

EA has kind of failed in all those departments for many, many rears.

Rift

Blandflakes

Usually comes accompanied with weaksauce.

Agree about the WoWorship though. The reviews come across as a WOW fanatic reviewing other games as opposed to a gaming journalist.

Lottie

Maybe

it's because I'm elderly and remember stuff like Diablo 2, but I thought the graphics in the screencaps were rather spiffy looking.

But yeah, I remember that last Tuesday DID feel like eight years ago. Because I was considering re-installing Deus Ex for the N+1th time.

Ubisoft reveals rock game with REAL guitars

Lottie

interesting...

I seem to recall a game a few years ago where you connected your midi keyboard and then by playing the right notes, your little androud raced along and jumped platforms.

Looked cool!

Anyway, I can see this taking off quite well, but also seeing shitty cheap guitars being labled as compatible with this system ( just like DVD compatible!!!eleventyone SCART sockets)

Microsoft calls time on Zune media player hardware

Lottie

but

I mean this in all seriousness - Was it any good as a media player? I know it was hamstrung by lack of marketing and an i-tunes alike interface for computers, but was the hardware much cop in and of itself?

Apple sells 500,000 iPads, runs out of stock

Lottie

P45?

If I were in charge of a business, I'd fire the guy who *repeatedly* screwed up the manufacturing stockpile/ projections and caused so many "out of stock" moments. Every time an apple product comes out it's the same.

Of course, I'm not suggesting it's stage managed to run out ASAP, oh nooooo

Xperia Play gets UK debut date

Great!

But if they've not REALLY invested in the battery tech, it'll be pretty fucking poor.

Game offers pre-orders on pre-owned titles

Lottie

Hmm

I used to get the odd used game from Game. Mostly when they were doing their 3 for £20 or something when they were trying to get shot of all their PS2 titles. I find that eBay is far better for used games as the market sets its own price and the person selling gets all the money instead of a paltry sum before Game add a good 100% markup.

Sinclair ZX81: 30 years old

Lottie

Legendary

A truely legendary computer.

I can't believe how far we've come in just 30 years. IT's fine to understand Moores theorum academically, but to look at a ZX81 and then look at a modern super gaming rig is just mind blowing!

Just think though, without this (and of course others liek the VIC20) we'd have no UK games industry to speak of.

Anyway, given that porn/ sex is the main field that pushes development of consumer computing, how long 'till we get a "scan your boyfriends todger and print it in chocolate/ beef protien/ brocolli" program?
