Re: re: I still don't understand the irrational fear of nuclear power though.

just bury it in the ground

Yes, just bury it. Fine. But where?

I live in Australia, which produces a significant proportion of the uranium used for nuclear power around the world. So it only seems fair that we store a significant proportion of the world's nastiest nuclear waste. When we dig uranium out of the ground we end up with a bloody huge hole. A hole which used to be filled with radioactive stuff. So why not put radioactive stuff back in the bottom of it after all the uranium has been taken out? Ladies and gentleman, I give you the recently-completely-emptied Ranger Uranium Mine.

In the last few months I've been making my own sourdough bread. Not because of any healthy reasons, just because firstly it tastes so much better than supermarket Chorleywood crap, and secondly because I actually enjoy baking. The gf loves it (and she quite likes the sourdough too).

Baking is surprisingly easy, if you aren't doing it I recommend you try it.

This time, it is "tu quoque". Pointing out that some warmists are involved in spin doesn't diminish the fact that Lewis Page is involved in spin.

Martin Budden Silver badge

Re: Strangely conflicted.

I do know how to feel about driverless cars.

On the one hand hand I do actually like driving - and that's why I'll be keeping my 56 year old classic for occasional country drives.

On the other hand I hate commuting, I hate being designated driver, and I hate being almost killed by idiots who can't keep their eyes on the road - so I can't wait for 99% of cars to be driverless (including the car I'll use most of the time).

As we all know, snark always comes before a fall. Mea culpa

Martin Budden Silver badge

6 is the limit.

A couple of years ago we decided to buy a new 7-seater car. First thing I did was to google for a list of all available 7-seater cars. Turns out there were a whopping 49 different 7-seater cars on the market at the time! (We have a lot of car manufacturers selling here in Australia).

So I started whittling down the list: first chuck out all the huge 4x4 offroaders (e.g. Landcruiser etc), then chuck out the expensive luxury marques, and so on. Eventually I'd got the list down to a number that I felt I could realistically test-drive and then make a choice on. You've already guessed it: that number was 6.

p.s. the car I bought is great, I'm very happy with my choice.

Huge SUPERHENGE erection found near Blighty's Stonehenge

Martin Budden Silver badge
Go

If I ever become a bazillionaire I'm going to build a huge stone henge (not the same as Stonehenge, mind you) for the sole purpose of confusing archaeologists in 5000 years time.

Martin Budden Silver badge

Re: "One of the largest neolithic sites"

Firstly: you'd expect "one of the largest neolithic sites" to be one of the easiest to find. Stonehenge and the surrounding barrows, ditches, walls etc are easy to find. And large. So the claim seems reasonable.

Secondly: The parts of the North Sea that were once dry land, e.g. Doggerland, were flooded recently by geological standards but too early for complex structures of the same kind as Stonehenge: Doggerland was flooded 8000 years ago, Stonehenge was built only 4000 years ago (very approximately).

Thirdly: They don't claim it is "the largest", they claim it is "one of the largest". Which it is.
