I call shenaningans. Worked fine at 7:50am and works fine now :-P
These weren't BT ISP reg users were they? RS has been failing for a few days on BT..

12 of the best? Yet the Regs own ratings put the Logitech VX Revolution above 7 of them at 90%: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/08/31/review_logitech_vx_revolution/
Not to mention it was reviewed at £60 and can often be had for less than £30
Looks like a collection of silly gimmicks to me bar the odd couple (including the stupid £75 one..)
@wibbilus maximus
Forget Windows Mail and just install Thunderbird. Job done.
Start/taskbar can be set to act like more like previous versions if you wish. Once you get used to it though you realise the new version is more efficient and yes i'm aware it requires a whole extra click.
No you really DON'T have to use the Live programs ;-) How is MS forcing you to? It didn't even come with Windows Live Messenger I had to opt to install it.
@Steve
I find Win 7s explorer a much better improvement over Vistas. Vista never seems to give you the shortcuts to the folders you want. Win 7 does a better job but I still think XPs explorer is better if you use a lot of varying folder locations.
I haven't had any need to open so many Windows myself :-)
@Law
Well I hope she hasn't cursed The Unit too!
But yes 4400 another show killed off before its time.
The problem with PVRs is everyone skips the ads. If they know people are using PVRs on a show then so will the advertisers. So there goes any incentive to carry on.
With the rise of PVRs (and sites such as HULU) the business model has really got to change soon.
"I liked it, a lot, like fishman, was the only thing I begged for space on the Sky+ from my wife. Meant there was one less space for all that reality-car-crash-TV tripe."
Just one of the reasons it was cancelled. PVRs apparently, as they are not counted towards ratings.
Move a show to the Friday night slot and everyone puts it on the PVR and goes out.
Plus like someone else said sci-fi shows just don't get the same size userbase.
Such a shame but not a surprise :-(
Fox does have a terrible habit of doing this.
hmm good luck proving and collecting fees on that one unless they do put a login system on.
But then as the TV License guys can't even work out that if one person in a house has a license then the partner doesn't need it I can't see a new system adding onto that working too well.
Make it too much hassle and people will just use other methods like every other website that gets too ambitious
Noticed AVF Forums somehow detects the use of Adblocker and displays a begging message for you to disable it for their site. As they put their ads in tables and the begging message is of similar size then you might as well disable it!
This won't work, it is a nice idea but there are the few who have ruined it for everyone else by plastering sites in intrusive adverts. If there is an option added it will just be abused.
All this talk about increasing download speeds (whilst also increasing caps!) What about increasing our feable upload speeds?
I forget how slow my upload speeds are up until the point I try to upload even small (<100MB) files to my web server then it feels like i've single handedly killed the internet.
So are these things as pictured still being classed as Quadrocycles as the G-Wizz was?
In order to bypass all of the safety features and crash tests car manufacturers have worked for years towards..
Compromising safety just to LOOK like you are doing something for the environment ;-) Lol @ the 100% clean idea..
Battery powered cars are a stupid old idea, so probably just about the right thing for our government to be interested in..
So glad i'm not with Virgin. How can people cope with these limits? Sure sometimes I might not download much at all but for instance the other night I went on Xbox Live and downloaded 2 demos and an update for Burnout Paradise. In total 3.6GB.
So you would hit the throttle only part way through the download :-/
@zenkaon
That's because it's not officially sold over here. I got mine for £99 a long time ago.
Even now I can't replace it with an iPod of similar spec without spending double the money.
They really need to sort the software out though. Stop tying it down to a PC with so many system files so a portable version could be used. Sort out the syncing issues (which it keeps saying it has fixed..)
Most of all sort out the stupid ID3 tag problems, fussiest app I have ever used EVER. Got a compilition album? Oh that must be 40 seperate albums then..
"Can you hear that? Malware writers the world over just let out a massive cheer."
LOL good point.
Personally i'm all for this as there are rumours we may move to IE8 at work once the final release is out (up from IE6..)
Just thinking to myself a minute ago.. what is in this for MS? The browser has always been free, surely it doesn't sell OSs. Where is the profit in developing the IE product?
Firefox works well for me anyway :-)
Well to follow on from my earlier post for the first time ever i'm not maxing my line out on newsgroups. Fluctuating wildly between 350 and 550KB/s rather than the steady 750KB/s. Line isn't slowing down as i'm still browsing pretty quick, usually maxxing out on newsgroups kills any other net tasks.
Still even with the congestion it's around 20 times better than the moderatey of ISPs
Noticed problems this week also. Whilst P2P seems fine still streaming from sites (Youtube, Mogulus) is terrible unless I am able to leave it to buffer away for a while. Games were skippign about a bit online last night but I wasn't sure if that was my connection or not.
Still I can max out usenet at any time during the day if I needed to.
Few comments on the install size here. The install requires about 7GB HDD space, anything else is the hibernation file and pagefile. I installed mine to an 8.2GB VMWare image and have a little over 1GB space..
Would have made sense for MS to put this out on torrents (who knows maybe they did?) but after trying the official download which threatened a 13 hour download I had to look elsewhere!
I'm guessing it will be the Elonex One T http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/07/09/elonex_unveils_second_scc/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elonex_ONEt
In which case it's just not worth the £100, it might have been when they first came up with the idea but with the EEEPC 701 selling around £135 with double the spec it's a no go.
Just tried to 'buy' 999 'frownys' from Despairs website, but you can't...
"Sorry, but there's a $19.90 order minimum. Dr. Kersten isn't running an "Everything's 99 Cents" franchise, he's building an empire. And he can't keep himself in the latest gear with a bunch of $1 orders... "
I think it's a scam..
"This is why i left plusnet after they where bought by BT, they turned into a bunch of muppets. "
You MUST be kidding? I have been with several ISPs (including AOL) and PlusNet were by far the worst. Joined up with a "high bandwidth package" to find my download cap reduced to 50% within a couple of months to "improve my service" which was followed by constant bad speeds and dropouts. PlusNet refused to let me out of the contract without a huge bill.
Technical support? What technical support?
BT on the other hand have actually been one of the best ISPs and I have only gone elsewhere to get more bandwidth.
A lot of people here saying "Ask for your MAC code" "Drop BT now!"
But it's just not that easy, Bt haven't been proven to be doing anything wrong (yet!) so leaving them is going to cost serious money if you are still within a contract.
I'm only a month into my contract and the TOS say I must pay any outstanding months if I quit.
£25/mo x 11 remaining months + £25 for the BT Homehub.
This is not cool though would be nice to make a move over to O2.
I also don't want to be blocked from peoples websites :-(
