Woman scales Ben Nevis wielding selfie stick instead of ice axe

Tommy Pock

So next time some macho experienced climbers with several hundred pounds of gear and six tents each manage to scale Ben Nevis, they can just remember that once it was scaled by a woman from Brighton wearing flip-flops.

Re: Big warning 14.04LTS to 16.04LTS upgrade

I will, eventually. My laptop* started out on 8.04 Hardy Heron and it's been upgraded to every LTS since.

Nothing serious has broken yet. It's interesting to see how many upgrade cycles the OS can go through without any catastrophic occurrences.

I do stay away from interim releases and betas though.

Facebook, WhatsApp farewell BlackBerry

The Android FB app doesn't work on Blackberry

You have to find a legacy apk for some lost and forgotten version which will work on BB10. The Google Play version won't login.

Face10 works but it isn't free. (Native Blackberry app but uses the Android API)

BlackBerry Priv: After two weeks on test, looks like this is a keeper

Tommy Pock

I had a Pre3, and fell in love with that thing. I've hated every single touch screen phone I've had since; although the Lumia 1020 was the least worse.

But, the 7th time that went in for repair, Vodafone replaced it - against my will - with a godawful Sony M4 Aqua. I hated that phone. I hated that phone more than any piece of tech I've ever used. So I sold it at CEX for £93 and put the money towards a Blackberry Classic. It really feels like I'm at home again. I have no Google services at all, I have all the apps I need (basically a browser and sat nav) and even the laughable camera isn't as catastrophically bad as the M4's.

I've got a lot of time for Blackberry. Let's hope the Priv can get a lot of people to fall back in love with them again, so they can fuck Android off. BB10 blows it out of the water. Using Android is too high a price for me just to have a keyboard

BlackBerry opens its Priv kimono just a little wider

Re: Remember the Venue Pro?

I still have one of these. With a 64GB micro SD it's my main MP3 player but would be my main everything if it wasn't so slow. There is a market for both physical keyboards and small smartphones if anyone's listening...

Avoid the M4

I can't update iPlayer due to the OS taking up 5GB of the phone's 8GB total. Sony have put 2GB of unremoveable crap on it as well. The M4 cannot be rooted.

Re: It's just not worth it

Oh yeah, it has a much bigger screen. Silly me for forgetting how irritating bigger screens are. At least I have no trouble lifting 2.4 kilo, I'm still quite young

Tommy Pock

It's just not worth it

I just bought Acer's own Aspire E51 - 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, three USB 3.0 ports, DVD-RW and 7 hour battery life for £289. Only twenty quid more than their top-spec Chromebook. That's a mighty drop in spec just for posing value in Costa.

I need Linux for everything. I'm not going to install an OS I need to constantly babysit just to put MP3s on my phone.

Tommy Pock

Is the MTP file transfer fixed?

With the 800 and my 1020 both are seen by Linux, both allow transfer of data onto the device, but the data isn't seen by the phone. The only way to get data from my laptop to my Lumia(s) so they can see it is by using Feem, a WP type of Airdroid app. Slow and useless for very large files.
