What about the beer?
No beer = My turds stay on Earth!
And I must say I am looking forward to the Mars One debacle mentioned/linked to in the article. All in the name of money ... er, no, that should apparently be science.

;)
They'll fix that, no problem
I am pretty sure you'll be able to buy different verions of movies etc were you get to pay a premium price to get the version not soiled by ads.
At least this looks like an excuse for Mr Lucas to remaster and re-re-release the Star Wars saga at least a couple more times...
Huh?
Penis!
(That's all...)
Re: Billion dollar profit ?
"Why does this make me feel so ill ?"
Basically it's because it is commercial leanings having it's way with just about everything. Good if you happen to be on the recieving end...
Re: The Dialectizer - the original web translator
Thanks for the Swedish Chef link/translation. It was almost like being back home in Sweden reading again.
...
Hey, wait ... I already am.
OK.
3.14?
So Outlook means less pie??
New business model looming
After the computer sales fizzle Apple can probably continue for a couple of decades living off of the money made from suing companies and persons breaking one or more of those silly trademarks and patents.
Her you go

Check links. Cheapest seem to be MenKind at £79.99
iPhone owners weird width/height ratio ... on their videos
Is it just laziness filming stuff in a "standing letterbox" ratio, or do the manual feature an order that the new owner should use the iPhone that way when filming. It's a grandiose waste of space and unnatural in every sense of the word. Stop it!
Re: Why no VoLTE?
According to this article
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/biz/2012/08/123_116866.html
South Korea is on VoLTE since August.
Re: What's the point of 4G...
Wow... That's really terrible.
(Stunned in Sweden)
The shame in selling things
OK. So we all know that Yahoo and others on the Internet survive by selling us stuff. So when and where did it become a no-no to say that? Why do you have to talk about "user experience" and such. Dress it up. It's all about selling stuff. From the useful to - mostly - crap. Just like it's always been since the world of commerce took over.
Experience that.
"Free"...?
Let's see:
"getting to read them for free will no doubt appeal to many."
versus
"Amazon’s UK wing is now a lending library, albeit a private one exclusive to folk willing to cough up £49 a year."
49 a year? Doesn't seem free to me.
Cool!
Could someone ... anyone with knowledge in in legal speak point me in the direction of the books on law where you can read up on what legally is considered "cool". Or not.
Swedish text-TV on the web
And you can even pick the way you watch it. TV style

Are they sure it's not a bug in the software...
Stop this!
It can only result in me having to pay more for my phone. Maybe even so much more I can't afford to change phones every 12 months... IT IS MY BIRTHRIGHT!
Stop it, I say!
Change is confusing. Stop it. Now.

Standing tough under stars and stripes
We can tell
This dream's in sight
You've got to admit it
At this point in time that it's clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we'll be A.O.K.
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free
Get your ticket to that wheel in space
While there's time
The fix is in
You'll be a witness to that game of chance in the sky
You know we've got to win
Here at home we'll play in the city
Powered by the sun
Perfect weather for a streamlined world
There'll be spandex jackets one for everyone
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(More leisure time for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young
What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Re: Languages???
I recall the hard rock outfit Trojan that decided to put those dots above the "o" to get some Scandinavian/Viking(Gothic/Whatever feel on their album cover. Problem is that Tröjan translates as "Sweater" in Swedish. Not that hard rock anymore.
And be careful with those umlauts/dots/"prickar" out there!
"Does not compute"
It's Friday!
Re: Languages???
Greetings from #1 Sweden!
The correct spelling in Swedenese is "pörn", "pörren".
Enjoy.
Re: It's not what you know....
Stephen in Experiment IV? No. But Dawn French and Hugh Laurie both are.

So... a couple of days ago my Samsung GS2 and I got a message saying a software update was available. But trying to download it I immediately got a message saying no update was available.
Today the same thing.
Must've been this out and in thing, yes?
null and void
I am no expert on statistics but find it impossible to think that you can pick 400 people that statistically represent and correctly reflect the 1 475 000 000 living in the states and countries mentioned.
And see it quoted in media as some serious investigative this-will-happen-for-sure poll... Amazing!
Background image?
Are the three people in the background pic actors in some prime time "comedy" coming our way sooner rather than later.
Re: Gee... May I suggest
Laura just because Lara need to be "reinvented"
Re: Gee... May I suggest
"Laura Croft - Vampire Twilight" ?
Tack! (*)
(*) Swedish meaning "Thank you!"
For providing the embedded clip with Swedish subtitles. It helped me understand the non-English parts of the video.
There's always a market ...
Today I saw a newspaper asking five people if 2 000 USD/1 360 GBP/1 680 Euro is too much to pay for a pair of sneakers.
All adults said no. The young girl asked said "yes, if it is original enough".
The follow up question to her would've been "how do you pay for it?", but it was never asked and I guess she'll pay with one of those phone loans with ridiculous interest rates.
Consumingly yours,
Apps?
As a person born in the very late 1950's and around to get my first computer interaction on VIC20 and Amiga 500 I am puzzled by this app craze. Most of them just saves you a couple of clicks and add various number of ad-related schlock to the process of getting from A to B.
And always remember:
Predicting the future of the planet is a competition!
Re: Someone has to pay... Sound and vision
Aaah, the commercials too loud complaint. Very often up for debate here in Sweden as well. And the answer is always something like this:
"But, hey, it's not louder. We just compress the sound to make it stand out and get noticed".
And so it continues...
Someone has to pay, even for the so called "free" stuff. And that someone is - as always - you and me, the viewer.
Re: Web site apps
"The Reg feeds all point to the desktop site, which is a pain when using Google Reader on a phone."
And even more when you're reading the neighbours computer screen using your binoculars.
Can I please subscribe to the printed edition.
Re: Piss off yourself
Worse still; some places - mainly in larger cities - that used to serve you a pint OR 500 ml sneakily shrunk the size to 400 ml instead of raising the price. Unacceptable for a person who like me prefer nothing smaller than 500 ml.
Full of suggestions!
After dowloading all suggested freeeware in the comments my computer is a mess of programs scattered all over the harddrive.
I'll get my coat and go buy that Windows Office bundle...
Re: ooh!
I'd say that with the exeption of no upgrades what you just wrote is true for e-a-c-h and e-v-e-r-y phone released these days.
Case closed
All we need now is a protective case to protect the protective case from damage and stains. Then yet another case to protect the case that protects the case. And so on, and so on....
Re: New Olympic Sport ?
What?! There's actual sports going on during these "Olympic games"? I was convinced is was just one big marketplace for selling stuff...
Looking forward to getting my hands on it to hear the latest from "Chiddy Bang" ... NOT!
I do recall being somewhat excited á la Rory when I, decades ago, managed to HTML together my first rudimentary page for the Internets.
By the way... This "computer" and "computing" thing is really a fad, right? Time to move on to something newer, more exciting.
Sweden?
Sure that "my country" Sweden would be in the Top 3. Or at least Top 5. Had to find out why not and was stunned to see that the latest figures put the percentage of homes using WiFi at a measly 15%!
Most of the people I know have a working WiFi at home in addition to some broadband connection. Further investigation and analysis required. In the meantime: Use that WiFi Swedes, now that you've bought iPads and the like for vegetating in front of the telly while updating that Facebook profile!
The most common way to get online in Sweden is DSL, with 87% of homes using it. 3G/4G is second with close to 40%. In toto 93% of Swedish homes have an Internet connection.
Watch him or he'll rob you blind. Allegedly.
Saul Zaentz ? Ah, that explains it. The same company that in 1985 sued 1970's rocker John Fogerty for the song The Old Man Down The Road on the album Centerfield saying in was plagiarizing Down On The Corner that John had written for his group Creedence Clearwater Revival back in 1969.. Saul lost the case btw.
But in a compromise got John/the record company to change the title of one of the songs on that 1985 album from Zanz Kant Danz to Vanz Kant Danz. It was about a pig that steals your money. You do the math.
Zanz Kant Danz still available on vinyl copies. Allegedly.
Sing along kids!

Watch him or he'll rob you blind. "
"Sure, it’s thicker by about HALF A MILLIMETRE, but it’s hard to spot this."
Correction:
Yes, a half a millimetre difference would be hard to spot. In reality it is 0.6 centimetre = 6 millimetres thicker.
One or all?
The upside is that by following all Register Twitter accounts you get all the news at least twice. The downside is that you do get the news at least twice.
(Oh boy! All that explaining made me thirsty...)
100 million years?
It will at least give me time to renew my passport!
Same old same old...
As a non-player looking at this preview I get the feeling the world of computer/console/online games is in even worse shape than the movie industry. The same old square jawed guys with guns. Does anything happen except the graphics getting better? Can I get a list of five truly original, creative and good games? Do they exist? Can I put off buying a Playstation, XBox or whatever yet another year?
