Even 'Your computer has a virus' cold-call gits are migrating off XP

Piano / Computer

One of my favourite radio comedy shows has a sketch about this where it transpires they are confusing a computer with a piano, "the start key, is that a white one or a black one?" etc. very funny and I'd love to have the wherewithal to use it myself but I don't think I could keep the gag going for long enough!

I've looked on Amazon but can't find getting the job done by Frank Shaw, maybe he meant figuratively.

RE: no way

The makers of this are not laughing at Alzheimers, the fact is very little is known about the causes and as a result how best to help. Somebody has tried something a little bit left field which, initial results show, might just help a little bit. Okay so it's not a cure but surely you must welcome anything which has a chance of helping.

It was also produced by a commercial company, not a charity. Okay they will be hoping to make money out of it but it's still better than a lot of things people make money out of (I'm thinking weapons etc)

Now giving it to someone who doesn't have alzheimers, that would be an insult!

Crashing

I'm using 3.1 b2 and although it has crashed a couple of times, nothing like the number suggested by earlier posters for 3.0x. Am I just lucky or is it that the beta version of 3.1 is actually more stable than the released version of 3.0x? (or are people prone to exaggeration? :-) )

It makes you wonder why the developers are spending so much time on (an apparently flaky) 3.0 if 3.1 is round the corner too.

@innovation

If this had been developed by the beeb this article would be swamped with posts complaining about the waste of license payers money on technology that few people want or would be able to get.

Damned if you don't, damned if you do.

Thanks the Register

On what is (apparently) officially the most depressing day of all time this is exactly the tonic we need.

Keep up the good work

SecureID

I've often wondered why SecureID technology hasn't been adopted by banks. The cards are replaced regilarly anyway and I'm sure the technology could be fitted into a card at little extra cost (I'd be happy to pay for the priviledge)

My only slight concern with this system would be that repeated use of the card might make it obvious after a while which 4 numbers are in the user's PIN as they could become worn with frequent use.

RE: T-Shirt

"I went to Bletchley Park last year and had a great time, though I was shocked at the state of disrepair it had been allowed to fall into. Both the Station X and Museum of Computing are struggling for money but both are well worth a visit."

I thought for a moment this was your suggestion for a design in the vein of My mate went to XXX and all I got was this bloody T-Shirt :-)

US made to wait for Quantum of Solace

Not convinced

I'm not convinced that 2 weeks make any difference at all. If it was 6 months then yeah some people would get pirate copies that would otherwise have gone to the cinema but I think the people who would have gone to the cinema will wait 2 weeks and still go to the cinema, the usual suspects will get pirate copies and everyone else will wait for the DVD / next Christmas telly.
