Re: Amps - what about volts

It's in the USA so let's assume 120v single phase. Not knowing the power factor of the equipment hinders the calc al little but say it's 0.8 they will have around 2.5kW to play with...

Wonder how many RaspberryPi's you can power off that :-)

Huawei says US stance is 'protectionism'

Riscyrich

Protectionism aside...

.. has anyone actually tried to use their switch software or read their manuals (if you can find the right one)? They are substandard, badly translated and often miss out steps i.e. "navigate to the config web page". Well I would if the was a web server running on there Huawei-san (you have to install and enable it).

Bought two devices to trial and I wouldn't let them run a tap, never mind a corporate network. Maybe they are too busy reporting data back to the Chinese - somehow circumventing all our network security :-)

Web scam-busting trio thwarted by mystery DDoS rocket

Riscyrich
Facepalm

This 'lad'....

.... must have had to splash out a fair few $$ to buy a nice bot net like that. Hope it was worth it.

Silly really because just like his sites/scams pop back up with vigour when they get taken down so web servers for the army of Scambaiters out there. DDoS is almost getting a childish feel to it these days, perhaps akin to throwing handfuls of small pebbles at someone till they surrender. They still stand up and dust themselves off when you have run out of pebbles. I do of course appreciate that DDoS is a massive threat to big internet based business, that kinda goes without saying.

And I don't pretend to know how botnets are taken down but I imagine the more they are used the more the people combating them can learn about their C&C ? ? ?

"Interestingly there is a gender gap opening up – with women much more fearful of nuclear energy, and men increasingly supporting it. What does that tell us?"

As you stated "This is hard to imagine happening without the internet as a source of information.", perhaps its the way in which men and women use the internet that sets us apart?

Quick search pulled up this:-

Great drives !

Have installed two of the 250GB drives in >3 year old laptops recently (along with a little extra RAM of course). Made them run extremely well and very fast post 3/4 reboots - after files have been used a few times it moves them onto the flash memory.

IMHO a couple of extra GB of RAM and one of these is a very effective way of breathing a new lease of life into an old laptop.

Just remember to disable any auto defrag software as this trashes the 4GB read cache and you have to start all over again.

Good friend of mine lost in excess of £500 selling on eBay. Long story short - he sent parcel, UPS delivered, signed for by recipient. Recipient rings up eBay/Paypal says he didn’t get it. UPS did what they were employed to do (deliver parcel / get signature) and hence didn't want to know, PayPal suspend seller account. No way out.

He proved it was sent, signed for etc sent copies of everything. Nothing more he could have done, PayPal were having non of it. Ended up closing account, opening Sage Pay account and sending a 'Get Fcuk3d' email to PayPal.

eBay/PayPal usage rules = only ever buy and only ever buy small.

Both me....

My requirements would be on par with some of the comments on here, 10inch responsive screen, stylus and good battery life.

For me the tablet would just be a more portable, 'portable PC', problem is they are cost prohibitive at the moment as I can pickup a light weight netbook to do the job for much, much less that the tablet offerings...

Fail of the day - Met Police

Earlier that day in Scotland Yard:

Top Copper: "Get that blog taken down right now!"

Copper: "Errm ok, how?"

TC: "Get the e-crime unit on it"

C: "Roger that boss"

Later that day...

E-crime boff: "But that's pointless"

C: "Just do it"

E-crime boff: "Ok, but...."

C: "Just freaking do it or it's my ass"

E-crime boff: "Fine"

Later...

TC: "What do you mean they hosted it in several other places?"

C: "As it turns out boss there are a lot more places on the internet you can host things"

TC: "How many?"

E-crime boff: "January 2010 stats show about 900,000,000 listed internet domains alone"

TC; "So what you're telling me is that not only did we let these students hoof the door in on the Conservative HQ but now they are making us look like chumps on the internet - god dam it man"

C: "Yes boss, that would be the long and short of it"

TC: "Shit"

E-crime boff, "Can I go now? I need to get back scamming noobs on WOW"

TC: "Before you go I've brought my wife's laptop in, can you ensure there's no trace of any internet activity on there?"

E-crime boff: "But I'm a network specialist I don't really do desktop supp....."

TC: "Just do it nerd"

E-crime: "No problem boss, you can trust me...."

Perhaps you should read up on the properties of coaxial cable, might help to explain why it isn't subject to the same interference problems the copper pair you get from BT is.

Core plugs ?

Hope they re-fitted new core plugs to the engine and didn't leave in the dodgy ones that leak and fill up the spark plug chambers with coolent. Saying that when they take it to Ford the mechanic[sic] will probably just tell them that it's not coolent but water from the washer jets - like they did to two of my family members.

Oh and don't even get me started on the 1000's of faulty coil packs they have fitted to the engines - the ones AA / RAC guys carry on their breakdown trucks becasue they fail so often.

ICT at Leeds Hospitals

Given the state of ICT at Leeds Hospitals I'm not one bit surprised. Last time I was there at least two PC's in the A&E dept. were offline (nice to know they need to scrabble around to find your details on an available PC when you are in the 'Emergency' dept. isn't it), another dozen or so had their cooling fans running balls out due to the huge collection of dust and crap over the vent hole (can only imagine what the CPU heat sink & fan looked like). But what really shocked me was the rate at which staff logged in to PC's, looked at some data then walked out of the room without securing the PC. Don't think you'd need Tom Cruise dangling from the ceiling to get the data out of that network…

Router meltdown ?

Of course we could not condone purchasing a nice powerful wireless router, preferably one that allows more than the 10mW EIRP limit, popping it on the same channel as his neighbours router and spamming the nuts of the wireless by creating a lot of broadcast traffic (arp?) on that network.

Not sure if it would work, but it's a start down the revenge path and perhaps a step on to the BOFH learning curve for our young Padawan.

Or just take this snips to next doors broadband feed, what ever works for you... Of course this would be illegal but 4th Nov is coming up, I'm sure the filth will be far too busy that night to be concerned about it.
