Wall Street shudders under Lehman collapse

House overpriced too much for too long

The housing market has been the subject of many people trying to extract ever more money from it.

@Mortgages - Tim Robson - look forward to the time when you _can_ get a mortgage and how much it'll be for, the most likely scenario is that house prices will be returning to realistic levels, and dropping to the levels of the 1990's:

Who knows - maybe lower.

Hopefully the estate agents will have got a dose of reality as well and will now behave themselves when valuing a property (well it's worth hoping for at least) and the banks have hopefully learnt their lessons and will be more careful about how and who they lend to.

For those people with houses at the moment look forward to some disappointment in seeing your houses' value dropping. Maybe concentrating on making it your home rather than an investment opportunity would be a better use of time and effort.

I suspect that the rental market will be rather more popular than it has been for some time, with house purchases being rather more of a special event than current generations have got used to.

Anyway - I'm off to teach cheer-up lessons for the Samaritans.

Hooray - sense at last sensei

PH, (evil)BillG (evil)SteveB are back at least, so it was worthwhile working up a sweat about this.

I would like to see a (evil)Jobs, 2000AD and an Atari logo (mainly cos I really liked my old STe) though I don't suppose I'll get those.

Oh well, time to send the recall signal to my army of robo-laser-gnats.

PH 'cos she also makes me work up a sweat

"the NGLRS should be affordable" ...

ooh goody - I'll look for a large bulge in my stocking at Christmas then :-)

@Pete

couldn't they just start being nice to everyone else?

I'm afraid that doesn't seem to be part of the 'American dream' (tm), they prefer the schoolyard bullys' 'you're wrong, we're right, we're bigger, you're smaller' approach to international relations.

I'll be interesting if Obama gets elected, since he would appear to be their best chance at a non-isolationist future.

PH - stocking ... bulge, say no more.

Eye-o-Sauron™ poked out by Great Wall of America

Paul Murphy
Paris Hilton

Just a thought

You know that jumbo-laser-fryer they are building?, well, I suspect that the Eye-o'-Sauron and a flying auto-BBQ plane probably sounded like a good idea one friday afternoon.

For a wall to make any sense over that that sort of distance it would take a lot of time an money - there are just too many ways for people to go over/ under/ through/ around for it to work properly.

Killing the want for people to move into the US of A in the first place would work better and I think dubya is doing quite a good job of that.

The other approach (of course) is to invite people to come in - everyone gets a NI number, which is necessary for any services and make it worthwhile to do it legally.

Paris 'cos it would be nice to do her legally.

And with them being able to work 24/7...

that will be even more money for the owners.

I wonder how long before we get to see '2000AD'-like mo-pads (large motor-caravan type vehicles which people use to live in - they drive themselves around the place while the owner is at work) though with the price of fuel atm I don't suppose it's likely any time soon.

no icon for 2000AD :-(

Amazon flash mob mauls Spore DRM

Paul Murphy
Unhappy

Game is fun but my PC's broken now.

After installing Spore my PC seems to find it really hard to boot up properly, and I have to boot up from one of my other drives (yes I have installed the same version of XP on my normal drive, my RAID0 (for games) and my spanking SSD (just to see :)) which makes things awkward enough for me to see what I can do about it.

My question is - if I was to use a cracked version of the software, but use my legitimate account what problems would I have? .. if it means a working PC then it's worth my while giving it a go before I uninstall Spore and try to get of of the Securom rootkit.

Oh the irony that legitimate customers are driven to the cracking community to get working software that doesn't work properly because of actions taken to stop it being cracked.

Not impressed EA - especially considering that when I come to sell/give away Spore I am going to have big troubles there as well.

Anyway, I'm off to Amazon to add another voice.

Mine works fine

Got it on Friday, installed on main partion ('c:\' no choice to install on anything but!) and could still use the account i had set up for the creator.

No problems logging in whatsoever.

Good fun on normal difficulty. though I found the initial stages either frustrating or easy, depending on how powerful I was ;-)

Gets more complicated as you progress (naturally!) and the space section is pretty vast.

I was playing a out-and-out carnivorous type though, so I wasn't playing nice or trying to negotiate (mainly because I couldn't get my musical instruments to work :-(

In the UK?

Or I suppose to be more global about this - not just in the US? the 'Buy 1 Give 1' scheme was just for USians, which seemed rather short-sighted, I am hoping that this time us 'Over There' people will get a chance.

PH 'cos I wouldn't mind her on my lap either.

Black hats attack gaping DNS hole

Thumb Up

moved my router to OpenDNS and got better results

The VM defaults were;

Ok on doxpara, and

poor/great on www.dns-oarc.net,

so I changed to OpenDNS servers;

doxpara seemed just as happy and

great/great on www.dns-oarc.net,

so happier here - unless this is all a great con and now my home network is getting added to another Bots'R'Us swarm.

ho hum
