Ryanair requires web check-in, shuts down website

Gordon Stewart

@ed 20

Actually, I've been on 10 flights in the past 3 weeks, and 12 before that this year! Last year, 43 flights!

Taxes tend to make up a large portion of any short flight, and with budget airlines they tend to be more than the fare itself - at least, that has been the case in my experience. Maybe I'm just flying to/from all the wrong places!

Gordon Stewart

@Linbox

"Never paid more than £10.00 to fly anywhere" - sounds like bollocks to me. Taxes alone will usually amount to several times more than that.

Having big numbers on their uniforms certainly sounds like a good idea to me

Whether or not this policeman was responsible for Tomlinson's death, at the very _least_ he should lose his job and be up on an assault charge. At the time, Tomlinson clearly posed no threat to anyone. Whatever Tomlinson had been up to, shoving him over from behind like that is bang out of order - they're supposed to be police offers, not a bunch of bloody thugs!

I don't know about anyone else, but any time I see footage of riot police involved in a 'crowd control' situation in the news their response always seems sickeningly brutal. You tend to see some guy lying on the deck, covering his head while 1-3 policemen stand round him smashing him over the head with batons. You never hear of any convictions over that sort of thing.

I have a cousin in the MET, and an uncle that used to be in the MET. I've heard both talking of how much they enjoy riot duty because they "enjoy a good ruck". Both are racists too. Last time I expressed my distaste at such comments they just laughed.

A Good Start

This looks like it could eventually be quite a nice product... asuming that it sells well enough for Asus to come out with a 2nd generation version that addresses the shortcomings. £220 is also a bit steep, mefinks.

Re: Wow. So what's the catch?

Well, there is no longer 2 USD to the pound... so it's not as appealing as it once was :(

Indeed. I don't think anyone really believes he killed himself...

@what if he's guilty

That's what evidence can be used for.

And I don't mean the kind extracted through torture. If someone starts hacking at my sack, I'll tell them the moon is made of cheese if that's what they want to hear...

The _real_ terrorists here are the bloody security services. If the horrors that this bloke had to endure don't constitute terrorism, then I don't know what does.

Maybe he is guilty. Maybe he is not. I don't know. What I do know, is that this is very very wrong, and is categorically not the way that a 'modern', 'democratic', 'civilised' country should be conducting itself.

Wha? I take it from this statement that you have never used Mono. I have... it works just fine.

Of course, it this ever does come to the UK, they will simply change the $ for a £ - too expensive.

Cyber B52 strikes mooted as response to Chinese infowar

Tom Welsh

I gotta agree with you.

What could China _possibly_ have to gain from this?

There seems to be a lot of this nonsense being directed against China by the American press, politicians and agencies of late.

I can only imagine that there must be some political subtext, and the American public (and indeed the wider, western audience) are supposed to swallow this crap, just as they did the rubbish about Iraq having WMDs.

The unfortunate thing is that this stream of propaganda probably will have the desired effect of breeding (more) xenophobia and racism amongst many people :(
